Madera - Rosewood Hotel Sand Hill Ratings and Reviews
Outstanding ambiance and elegant dining. Service was mediocre, had to wait for wine service, and check, not attentive waiter. Food good to excellent but portions too small for price. Excellent dessert. Will give it another try, but a bit too pretentious for my taste. Noise level acceptable.
Madera at the Rosewood Hotel is a very nice classy restaurant with excellent service. The menu was preprinted with the occasion & there was a special menu for children with healthy food options. Parking is great with valet service. I would recommend it for celebrating a special occasion. A memorable experience.
Everything was exceptional except my salad and entre. I did not care for the beet salad- way too frisee heavy. I ordered the lamb shank, was turned off my the presentation- giant bone was not appealing as well as color of whatever the lamb shank was perched above- the lamb itself was very hard to maneuver and way too rare ( was never asked how I would like it served, I wrongly presumed it was going to be braised....)- taste was very "muttony" tasting. the cream puff type dessert was delicious. I have to say I have dined at Madera semi frequently for mostly business lunches and never had a meal that I could not eat and looked so distasteful. Our server was excellent.
I cannot speak about the food as I just book this place for my boss and his associates. However I can speak to their service administrative, and in that regards, they are the worst! If it were up to me, I would never book there again. You would think they would catch on to the fact that we regularly spend quite a lot of money there, not just in food, but reserving a room, and with each reservation comes a new challenge or rule I had not been informed of previously. In short, not accommodating at all. I very much dislike when companies make it hard to spend money at their location.
Our server Preston was OUTSTANDING. He was very friendly, personable, and extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu. We felt very well-taken care of by him. He made an already outstanding dinner THAT much better.
Everything we ordered was excellent. We enjoyed the foie gras, duck, pork loin, scallops, and nearly every dessert on the dessert menu. The bread, amuse bouche, and mignardise were also lovely.
The ambiance in the dining room was very warm and cozy and parking was easy. My parents are already talking about returning.
Weekend lunch w/girlfriends. Food was delicious: Foie Gras Torchon, Cauliflower Soup, Bibb Salad, Foraged mushroom Sugo- I enjoyed each bite. Beautifully presented. Compliments to the Chef.
Deserts: Chocolate Pear, Mille-feuille & Season's Greetings Bonbons were Ah-mazing!
Im not a cinnamon person so Apple Tart Tatin was lost on me. Skip the Mont Blanc (unless you're crazy about chestnuts)
Very disappointing service. Had to ask for water 3 times & coffee refill twice. Although an accident, server spilled a full container of cream on me(clothes, shoes & handbag). Server offered towels/club soda for clean up. I anticipated at least an offer of comp. dessert but there was no consideration.
Food & coffee were delicious.
Our experience was both enjoyable and dissapointing. I do not have a problem with expensive taste but I do when the value does not meet expectations. The meal and portions almost a joke and way too salty. The chef has to get it together if he wants if he wants to have repeat customers
Beautiful night and beautiful hotel to enter into! The interior of the restaurant isn’t gigantic but also isn’t small neither. The positive part is that it was beautifully decorated with excellent staff working the whole night. Noise level was kind of loud but it was a busy night before New Years Eve. The food was top notch, beautifully plated and tastes that would make your tastebud feel like they were dreaming. Staff was excellent and attentive to make sure our night went well. If you want excellent service, look for Beto and try to book table 24 or 13.
I have been to Madera several times and it never disappoints. The customer service is top notch and the food is creative and delicious. It is also fresh and not over sauced or over prepared. The presentation of the food makes the experience super special too. A great place for a special lunch or to impress.
I had the kampachi and the tenderloin steak which were both delicious! The chocolate pear dessert was good, but not amazing. The amuse bouche was also delicious, but this is the only complimentary “extra”—unlike other Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to in Europe which often provide an amuse bouche and a palate cleanser, plus a complimentary dessert or petit fours etc.
The space is gorgeous with stunning views. Highly recommended and would definitely go again.
It was Christmas Day and they had a fixed price menu. Everybody in my party had some minor complaint. We left full because it was very rich but I would not want to have that dinner again nor pay for it. We had our wedding their & it was great & the food was great. I sorry I just didn’t like this at all.
I love Madera and have been here multiple times- this time for Christmas Day dinner with the prie fix menu. All was great, the prime rib could have been better. My sole reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the lack of knowledge of ingredients from one member of the wait staff. We notified the restaurant of a nut allergy upon making the reservation a couple weeks in advanced, and one of the servers (not the main one but this server made more than a few stops at our table serving food) did NOT know any of the ingredients or types of nuts in the food he was serving. For a Michelin star restaurant I feel like that’s a given, a standard for all wait staff to know the menu of the night, even more so for a prie fix menu where everyone is served the same dish. So when we ask, “what kind of nuts are in this dish” we end up waiting ten minutes with food in front of us before we get some sort of confirmation of what ingredients went into the dish. So that was unfortunate but all in all incredible food. Pray next time you make it in that they are serving the lamb shank!!!
The food was very good, especially the foraged mushroom sugo. The seafood bouilliabaisse was good but the flavor was heavy on the Pernod. The desserts were excellent in their presentation, especially the Christmas Bon-bons. The service was very good but the noise level exceeded the sound level for conversation.
The decor is modern and open but not noisy or loud. The area by the fireplace is lovely and the view from the windows or deck is pretty. The food was outstanding: the scallops perfect and the salted caramel cream puffs to die for...next time I won't share! Our waiter was friendly, efficient but not "hovering", knowledgeable and made good recommendations. I'm already planning my next visit.
The Madera (in the Rosewood Hotel) has clearly earned its Michelin star with delicious, interesting dishes, each beautifully presented. The hotel’s exterior was sparkly with lights and outside the restaurant were upright triangular heaters in full flame, which together reflected inside to warm up the sophisticated style. A lovely fine dining experience to be repeated.
We celebrated my sister’s birthday. They were kind to print out a special menu heading. The Christmas decorations and tree were beautiful and we enjoyed taking pictures. We brought my elderly mother and she had a real difficult time with the noise and we were all very cold with a strong draft. Everything felt overpriced for what we received. It was my second time there and I never feel that we love it. It’s missing warmth all around, from the service to the food.
this was my husband's and my first time dining at madera and we were very impressed by the food and the excellent service. We loved everything we ordered - foie gras, gnocchi, scallops, beet salad - all delicious! It was a little noisy in there with people talking and the tables are kind of long so we it was hard to hear each other talk to one another - but we still had a good time.
We would highly recommend dining here
