Family Holiday Dinner
One of least pleasant dining experience. The waiter was inattentive and impatient. The vegetarian food portions were extremely small. Will never revisit or recommend to anyone.
Good food, nice ambience, stratospheric prices
Madera is a fine restaurant, recently awarded a Michelin star. Not sure if it's related, but their prices recently went from very expensive to ridiculously expensive. The cheeseburger is now $25. Let that sink in for a minute. In the past several years, it's gone from 15 to 17 (I think), then 20, and recently to 25. It's a very good burger, altho frankly, at the same time the price was increased the burger changed, and the chef is now using Monterey Jack instead of white cheddar. Nowhere near as tasty. (I called the manager, in fact, to let him know the quality had dipped as the price had increased.) Other entrees for lunch are into the $30s. Wine list is very expensive. Well, you get the message. Bottom line: very good, very over-priced.
High end cuisine in a beautiful and cozy setting. Price can be a little high but you get what you pay for: impeccable service, beautiful and delicious food sourced from local farmers. I reserved a table for a birthday celebration and it was perfect.
Brunch at the Madera is for folks who have more money than good sense. While the setting is lovely and the service very good the food is average and the pricing indicates a good sense of humor on the part of the management. AVOID.....
Sadly, we had a very disappointing dinner at Madera. The evening was marred by a screaming child who was having tantrums a few tables away. Unfortunately, the staff did not ask the parents to do anything, and it was allowed to continue for about an hour.
The menu was quite limited in terms of appealing healthy first courses/appetizers and the prices were very high. We finally shared an order of gnocchi, which was very good. We had a good bottle of wine. We wanted to bring a wine from home, but the corkage is a ridiculous $50.
Finally, and worst of all, we had two persons order the black cod, which was barely edible. The fish was barely seasoned. The texture was almost gelatinous and very unappealing. The flavor was just fishy. A dab of caviar and some vegetables did nothing to flavor the fish. And the cost was $39 for each entree.
Needless to say, it was a very disappointing and extremely expensive evening. We will not be back.
Excellent on all counts. Very delightful experience. Creative dishes, well prepared, and impeccable service. Enjoyable dining atmosphere. I would definitely go back for special occasions.
Most of the service was great but our server seemed a bit less nice compared with others working in the restaurant. The food was great as usual with only the lamb dish tasting a bit too salty. Matcha puffs were amazing and the bonbons were interesting but we all assumed they would be ice cream since the dish was called “Ice cream shop” so we were a bit sad that they were actually just chocolate truffles.
We went here for our 33rd Anniversary. Patrick went out of his way to make our visit so enjoyable. The tasting menu was incredible. We will definitedly come back
I visited Madera, one of my favorite restaurants to celebrate anniversary. This time, one of my choices was disappointing. The starter, grilled octopus was burnt. It tasted so bitter.
food was ok !
Food and service were great! Highly recommended!
One improvement needed is the parking lot. Lights were not bright enough to walk back and forth to the restaurant at night.
Bday for a friend. They treated us very well:)
The food was great. The room was loud and the service was fine but not outstanding.
Madera is a high-end dining experience and the adjacent bar is great before or after dinner. Bonus: Free valet parking!
Noise level exceedingly high, took away the enjoyment of the dining experience and made it very difficult to converse...needs to be addressed, if at all possible.....service very good, ambiance very good....food satisfactory....
My wife she I had our Anniversary here, and loved it! The food was exceptional, and the service was great.
It was a perfect spot to entertain my guest lecturer for the next day.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at Madera - at first we had all wished we could order our own choices, but the family style serving was great - lots of variety! We also appreciated that the sommelier was so kind and helpful. We were dining with elderly parents who didn't know the difference in what they were drinking so he was so lovely in helping us find something that was modest and still fantastic.
Very festive atmosphere but the food was mediocre. Sadly this is too often our experience when we have dinner at Madera. Lunch is better.
Not a great value or worth it for Thanksgiving! Totally a waste.
Food was very mediocre. I eat there regularly and was disappointed for the first time.
Great service, very attentive and accommodating staff. Food was also good (octopus, butternut squash soup and wagyu). Nice scenic view. Complimentary valet.
Service was amazing! Food was also very good. We will absolutely be coming back!
What a pleasant surprise! I didn't expect to be this good as a 1 star restaurant. Everything is perfect. From the food, the service, the value, to the vibe of the restaurant! The chef is very creative with creams. Chicory Salad is wonderful (probably the best salad I have ever encountered!). The steak is excellent and the Malibu is so fresh and melting! I will definitely visit Madera more often!
Was disappointed by the service. My wife asked for a taste of a Pinot Grigio before we ordered a full bottle and was told a flat out "No". This was a first. On top of that, neither the waitress nor the sommelier could make a recommendation from the 3 Pinot Grigios on the wine list. She was only asking for a taste of the "by the glass" option so there's was no reason to say "no".
The service was really good. They took my coat and checked it for me.
My friend did valet parking, I did not and I liked the option.
We split the fried gnocchi with truffles. This was divine. I ordered a glass of SA Stellenbosche which was also very good. Sorry if I spelled wrong.
The wine by the glass selection was ok.
For our entree we ordered the halibut and duck breast. The duck was a little tough . I ordered medium rare but it was very rare.
It came with palm and a 5 spice sauce( very little). The presentation was simple, elegant and on the small side.
We chose a gelee with pistachio ice cream . It wasn’t very sweet.
As it was my birthday I got a small cake with cream cheese garnish which I enjoyed more than the dessert.
On a summer night my choice would be to sit outside and enjoy the view.
During this season we appreciated sitting by the fire.
Our waitress was very friendly and professional.
A bit pricey and I wish for more variety for entrees and appetizers.
Disappointed. Nothing really special. Waiter did not volunteer any information and didn’t even mention vegetarian tasting when we inquired about the tasting menu
We came to spend our anniversary. Had some drinks at the bar first and then got a nice table in the restaurant. Fantastic food!! The Octopus starter is stunning.
This is a great restaurant and not wildly expensive. Very classic and classy dining room. Conversation is easy ...not a bit loud! Excellent service. The food is innovative and delicious. Great bread and an interesting butter patty with olive oil in a hole made in the top. Never seen that before! Great dessert menu as well with lots of after dinner drink options.
Excellent food and service
My friends and I were enthralled with the food: Expertly prepared and presented; flavors beautifully blended.
The food just horrible and menu too limited
Outstanding service and amazing food!
The patio on a warm weekend afternoon is the nicest place for a leisurely brunch.
Madera is always a culinary delight and we really enjoyed our lunch there. We had a bit of delay in getting our drinks but they were so nice about it and treated us extra special after that delay, that we forgot all about it. The dessert chocolates were divine an worth every calorie!
You could increase rating if your hostesses were more helpful. I always feel more welcome once I am seated and am with the wait staff.
Too expensive for the quality and quantity of did and service. Clearly aimed at large corporate accounts
Incredible waitress, great attention to detail for special occasion
As usual the food at Madera was outstanding. We went for brunch and sat outside. The view is spectacular. The only minus was the service. It was a bit chaotic and our server did not seem to know the dishes that well. And she tended to disappear when we needed help. There were plenty of staff running to and fro - too many frankly and that was actually distracting on the tightly spaced balcony area.
