There is truly something to please every palate and conscious eating choices. Please visit us for Dinner,High Tea, Lunch or Brunch at our beautiful and charming historical Pasadena venue. Madeline Garden is newly reimagined and decorated to create an elegant yet comfortable dining experience.
We celebrated my mom’s 90th Birthday with a group of 9, we sat in tea room. The service was great, scones delicious, and champagne brunch deal reasonable with good selections. The atmosphere and decor is elaborate but not stuffy. Everyone felt it was a great new find.
I usually love Madeline Garden Bistro, this last time I went I was a little disappointed in the food. Usually I leave overly satisfied which is why I continue to return for the last 4 years. May have been an off day or maybe because I came on a weekday instead of a weekend? However I can always say that tea is usually phenomenal, with hot and cold foods, its a good place to go if you are new at high tea.
Limited dinner menu
This little hidden gem is the place to go for afternoon tea or a weekend brunch. The food is amazing and delicious. The service was wonderful and the place is just beautiful. You feel comfortable dressed for high tea or in casual attire. Did I mention how delicious the food was? You will not be disappointed
I came here when it first opened years ago and it was the most unorganized restaurant in the world. Now years later, it hasn’t changed that much. Came for high tea.
Positives: the food is good and very lovely presentation. The tea is good. The ambiance is lovely. The harpist was excellent. Desserts and scone were great
Negatives: very slow service, inexperienced servers. A little noisy. No tablecloths for high tea.
The veggie tier was tasty but all the savory items had sweetness. Sweetness should be saved for desserts. I want savory for savory. Even the cucumber sandwich was sweet. Yuck!
Very overpriced!! Why are you adding in tip for a party of 3?
Tea was not replenished with hot water.
You need solid managers walking around and ensuring things run smoothly. Very unorganized considering they’ve been around for about 5 years.
This place has amazing potential. Get some decent management.
I highly recommend Madeline Garden for both high tea and Sunday Champagne brunch. The food was incredible and the service was outstanding.
Cute place. Confused servers. Okay food. Fifty eight dollars each for brunch which consisted of a single small tray of food to be shared by three people.
Such a darling patio! It was the perfect place for Easter brunch. Both the food and the service were excellent. I highly recommend this unique and charming venue.
Wonderful setting. Great service. A little pricey. But overall a great experience.
Rather a disappointment as we were forgotten, both in having a table for us at our reserved time, and then serving us once we were finally seated
I was here during the Christmas holidays with a friend and last Thursday I took my 7-yr-old for Hight Tea. Both times the experience was so lovely. This is a family owned restaurant that serves a traditional high teas with clotted cream, small scones, and small portion savories and desserts. It was so peaceful, and the owner, Ginny, went out of her way both times to deliver excellent service to us. It is located in a historically important old bldg in Pasadena, and the rooms are lovely. I will return here again and again for special high teas. They also have a beer garden in their beautiful patio, and serve lunch and dinners in addition to the high teas.
This truly is a hidden gem! They may be known for their High Tea but we went for dinner and had a scrumptious meal, in a beautiful decor, with wonderfully attentive service. I had the Lobster Risotto which was delicious and buttery. Husband had the Scallop which were also delicious. We ate early and there was hardly anyone there! Considering how good the food was and how excellent the service, we were very surprised by how empty it was.
The kitchen was a little slow but we were well-rewarded with a fine meal. Apparently they offer High Tea in the evenings too and we will definitely return.
Our server appears to have little experience and was exceeding slow. When the tea pot finally arrived he did not bring the cups for another 10 mins. When the bill arrived the tip was already added. Nevertheless the slip for the signature had the tip item empty for those who did not look at the bill carefully. We will not be returning.
Hidden gem is sometimes overused but in this case, it is entirely appropriate. Such a delightful venue for tea anytime or a special occasion.
Madeline Garden is one of my secret little treasures which I'm happy I found years ago. The gentleman who played the guitar last Sunday during our brunch was PHENOMENAL! Madeline's never ever disappoints! The chef there is spectacular and his offerings never ever let me down. Thank you for another beautiful brunch Madeline Garden Bistro!!!!
Very lovely dining experience in a beautifully appointed restaurant. Service staff was very attentive. Tad disorganized but it as Valentines Day and didn’t make the experience any less wonderful b
Pretty good- little pricey
We made a reservation about ten days before Valentine’s Day. The building and decor is absolutely gorgeous. The harpist was wonderful. It was a fixed menu that night. A few choices. I had the $66 “saffron fish” with soup, a shared appetizer and a shared tiny bit of dessert. I asked the waitress what kind of fish was in the “saffron fish” meal thinking saffron was the seasoning. She replied it was saffron fish. ? What? I asked if it was a white fish. She said yes. She had no other info on the fish. Fresh? Frozen? Type of fish? Ocean? Fresh water? So strange. The food was also cold. It was a wonderful night because of the company and the beautiful room.
Good food! Love this place!!
Great service! People were nice, savories were just ok but the tea, beautiful ambiance and pastries made up for it. We had dietary restrictions and the server struggled a bit but he was endearing and the staff supported him well. I’ll definitely be back!
Love the place! Kind service. I have no more to write for the 50
What I love about this place is that is so different than most restaurants in Pasadena or even Los Angeles. I love the fact that the ceiling is high so the noise level will never be a problem. This place has many dining rooms and each one is decorated differently. The pictures in the website does not do this place justice. It is much nicer.
wonderful setting in a historical building.
Unique and festive. Creates an atmosphere for conversation and drinking champagne..
Disappointing. Waiter had dirty fingernails, food was mediocre to lousy... except for potatoes au gratin (at high tea)
Best tea room in Pasadena, in an architecturally significant setting, beautifully appointed to the last detail. Grear value for the money, food was of highest quality with outstanding presentation, friendly service and staff. All around, outstanding choice for afternoon tea.
Superbe établissement à la fois pour son décor, sa cuisine et son service attentionné.
Une bonne adresse avec un bon rapport qualité/prix.
So lovely - definitely a special occasion venue!
Amazing food and great staff!
We had the brunch. Many food options to choose from including French Toast and Prosciutto with tomato and avocado on top of a croissant. Both of these menu choices were delicious. Everything in the restaurant takes you to 17th/18th century France and England. This includes the curtains, the couches, the silverware and tea cups. The seat I sat in at my dinner table was probably sat in by Louis XIV of France long ago. If not, he certainly would have liked sitting at my table today enjoying the food and the great live guitar music in the background. Really good service at a very reasonable price. This is one of those restaurants you won't ever forget. One final suggestion: The strawberry lemonade and hot tea were great choices for drinks, but champagne is available too.
Great ambience. If you can, try and get seated where the harp is. It was a great add to our bridal shower party. Small bites that fill your tummy =) Delicious scones, tea and salmon benedict (only thing I ate, can't review about the rest) Eggs could have been more runny but super flavorful. Would definitely come back again for a special occasion.
This place is cute as a button but good luck getting to sit inside if you dont have a huge party. We had to sit out front at a wobbly metal table. We were watched for most of our experience by people checking in to their party's, which was uncomfortable. I tried to call ahead to order the vegan high tea but no one ever answered so we went with the veggie one. The dished were cute but chipped in multiple places which is a health code violation. All in all, it was nice but not worth it for the the almost $80 bill for 2 people. When we went inside to use the restroom it was SUPER loud.
What an amazing surprise with style, history and food.
Very good food in an unusually decorated place---good harp player---tasty food but way too small quantity for a lot of $$$ this is a good one time novelty visit
Took us a while to get seated. Decor was beautiful. Food was okay.
What you expect from a tea room, was very disappointing. I understand it’s Mother’s Day but how can you serve buffet style food at a tea room that contains chicken Alfredo pasta, bacon wrapped dates, cauliflower, just two different mini open faced sandwiches to choose from and a few other things. When the waitress mentioned it was buffet style with the most popular food items on their menu, I was slightly in shock from what I saw. I was assuming that at least if the bite sized sandwiches and scones weren’t gonna be served on the tiered trays, that at least those same mini sandwiches and scones would be there in the buffet trays. Every hour the buffet was re-filled with one item. First they brought out some cooked fish which we only saw on other peoples plates, and then bruschetta type sandwiches. Which not only weren’t there when we came, but by the time other people came, the egg sandwiches and some olive looking ones that we had were gone. My mom has been here for a bridal shower before and continued to rave about this place, however this experience was pretty unpleasant to say the least.
We arrived on time having made a reservation. We were told it was first come, first served and they did not check a reservation list but took anyone who came in and seated people according to what tables became free. They were very disorganized.
After 45 min we were seated in an industrial looking room- no flowers or touches for this Mother's Day special celebration at $100 per person. We were told tea and scones would be brought to our table and we could go to buffet for our meal. We talked for 15 min or so- no scones or tea- so we went to the buffet. There was almost no food left, no desserts at all, no eggs or other dishes and no plates! We waited a bit but no food arrived.
We walked out and went to the Royce Room at The Langham Hotel and for $105 per person had one of the most spectacular brunches we've ever had.
Madeline a Gardens by contrast was absolutely terrible. Will be telling all my foodie friends to avoid the place.
Made a reservation for mothers day, however we never got seated. They were clearly understaffed and unprepared. When we arrived for our 11am reservation there were at least 20 people stuffed inside waiting. There was no check-in, people were just being seated randomly. After about 20 minutes we left to find an alternative location.
"Below Zero star" "Thumbs down" for Madeline Garden Bistro & Venue management. Reserved a week ago on 04/28/18 for a birthday celebration on 05/06/18 at 1 pm through Open Table. Received confirmation online and by text right after the reservation, the day before and on the day of the event. Replied yes, confirmed to all these 3 texts. Got there 10 minutes early and was told no more table available. Staff said our reservation was made yesterday on 05/05/18 so they don't have a table available for us. Showed staff the confirmation online and on my phone. Staff went away, came back and said he rechecked and told us "yes, you did reserve on 04/28/18". So, the staff offered either the front patio with people coming in and out without privacy under the hot sun or an abandoned, dusty, dirty, so-called "cafeteria" with no air-conditioning to seat our party of 9. Staff tried to talk to the manager (a Chinese/Asian guy) earlier but he did not care and left hiding, leaving the staff to handle us. My husband checked inside and there was an empty table already set up. Staff said it was reserved for a party at 2:30 pm and refused to give the table to us. We were asked to wait for another table which people were still eating and chatting, with no sign of leaving the table soon. My husband suggested the staff to let us sit at the empty table and move us when the other table is available. The staff refused and left us waiting. My husband asked again if we could at least order food first so our guests would not starve by the time we have the table available. Reluctantly, the staff eventually let us sit at that empty "reserved" table at 1:35 pm. We did get moved at 2 pm to another table. We all finished eating before 3 pm. When we passed by that "reserved table", not even one person showed up. We were thinking, if the staff let us sit at that empty table promptly at 1 pm, we would have already finished before 2:30 pm. Lesson learned: at least call the place to confirm before going.
Lovely tea once again at this lovely spot! The children’s tea was so thoughtful. We all enjoyed our food and the service was exemplary. We will certainly be back!
