Got sick ordering from gluten free menu. They warned me about grill and fryer, ordered pasta. Never been so sick in my life. It was beyond cross contamination. Very noisy. Waitress spoke and understood English very poorly. Service was slow.
The Lamb meal was a disappointment and we returned for another item.
Also should have access to happy hour when seated.
Very nice experience. We would definitely return.
Sat in the cozy heated porch for a fabulous dinner on a chilly March evening. Seafood bisque was delicious, as were our entes. The filet was cooked perfectly. Enjoyed the food and ambience so much that we returned the next morning for breakfast. Again the food was great.
Down the Cape for a couple of days, locals told us about the Mad Batter, so we tried it out. Fun place, great food, and great drinks. Staff is very friendly. Locals know, so should you! Try it, you will not be disappointed.
DO NOT sit in front porch in the winter! The heat is at floor level and your feet and legs get so hot that it is actually painful. Everyone around us was complaining. We did not stay for coffee and dessert because we just wanted to leave. Food and service was fantastic just not the heating situation!
My wife and I ate here a few days ago. Both had the filet with a crab cake and they were really quite good but their 4 cheese mac & cheese side put this meal over the top. Live music in the bar was a nice touch. Will be going back again to try something else soon.
This place is usually good. I was served a very questionable flatbread and foolishly ate one piece. I knew it was bad. I sent it back and they still charged me for it. I was sick to my stomach a few hours later. My wife’s meal was excellent however.
Wonderful all around restaurant. Great beach casual. Fine dining food if that's what you want that was well worth the value and great tasting. Burgers etc if that's your mood. My First time and would highly recommend this restaurant. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
We had a great meal, service was awesome and the overall dining experience was very pleasant! We hope to go back sometime.
Hood food. Will return soon!
Usually like coming here but this visit was disappointing. We were seated on the enclosed porch which had 2 doors that continuously opened and made it cold. We ordered Brie appetizer and burgers- both disappointing. Service was not upto par as usual- perhaps better in the summer and for breakfast.
A nice quiet place to dine with a very good select of entrée and excellent food. Very innovative.
Excellent experience overall. I had the seafood risotto. Large portion with great taste.
No parking, but this usually wouldn't be problem except it was raining. I made reservations at least a week in advance, but the only available table was a drafty corner of the covered patio. Was not problematic for me, but it was for my wife. We've been here twice before, this was the worst experience of the three. Service was good, food wasn't bad.
Diverse menu and good food. One of my go to restaurants in Cape May.
Great place to eat, great atmosphere, the food is amazing
We were there on Sunday February 11th for my granddaughters art show which was
being sponsored by her high school, Lower Cape May Regional High School
in the area. We attending the art show and decided to stay for dinner. There were
7 of us and we had a great time, wonderful table on the new front porch and
the service was amazing. The server was fast and efficient and very pleasant.
Greg Carpenter Duo was playing that night. Awesome music. Food was fantastic. I had the filet and crab cake. Cooked to perfection and one of the best crab cakes I have ever eaten. Wife had the scallops and they were hands down, without a doubt the best scallops I have ever had. Very extensive craft beer menu. Really nice and relaxed atmosphere. Higher end establishment and priced accordingly but worth every penny. Can't wait to go again.
I was a little disappointed in the Mad batter. We were seated on the enclosed porch in February. The doors kept opening which made it uncomfortably cold and detracted from the whole experience. The service was great and the food was mediocre.
The food and mixed drinks were all very good; however, the one Sauvignon Blanc wine available tasted like a Chardonnay (too sweet) and the Cabernet Sauvignon was not satisfactory either. I have always enjoyed my visits to The Mad Batter whether for brunch, late lunch, light dinner fare or a full dinner with friends. We have also stopped in for a nightcap, it is always a fun place. Friendly staff...we love Marta, Kay, Sue & Heather, you are all the best!
We're never disappointed with Mad Batter. We typically hit there for breakfast as we think it's one of the best in Cape May. This time it was dinner with equal quality.
Had a nice meal. However asked for a booth that was open and was told no that they expected several parties of 4. 2 booths remained open for our entire meal.
Love the mad batter for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It's always enjoyable
Great location, parking nearby. Great food and service.
The food was absolutely delicious . We will definitely be back.
We have had dinner here a number of times over the years, and each time the food has been excellent, the service great, and the value more than acceptable. This past time, our only disappointment was that our crab cakes arrived warm, not hot. They were still good, but we didn't want to ask to have it heated up as we were on a schedule to see a play afterwards. Having said that, we certainly would return to the Mad Batter the next time we're in Cape May.
The food was absolutely amazing! I had the Seafood Risotto, it was superb. The scallops were cooked to perfection, the lobster was so fresh and the risotto itself was so tasty too. My husband got the twin filets, which were cooked to perfection as well. He asked for medium, and it was true medium unlike when you go to other places. The ambiance was delightful and the place was quaint and quiet. My husband and I would go back for dinner there anytime.
We had the salmon and the risotto, both were perfectly cooked and delicious.
Food and service were great! The temperature was a bit too warm but the weather was very cold outside! Drinks were tasty .
Mad Batter is the go to restaurant for VEGANS in Cape May. The chef is a vegan himself and makes sure there are several options available for vegan diners. Also, make sure you ask to be seated on the porch. It has been renovated and equipped with heaters and is much more quiet if you want to have a conversation at dinner.
We enjoyed dinner here as food was very good. However, it was a windy cold evening and the porch where we were seated was cold. We could feel the wind blowing through the plastic from our seats. We were not offered any other seating. The temperature of the dining room made the evening less than perfect. Would try again in Spring when not so cold outside.
Everything about this place is good but the menu is uninspired - couldn’t get real excited about anything. Better for breakfast than dinner.
My wife and I just love it there... Great service and staff...
We always try to make Cape May a part of our Christmas tradition, and this year, we wound up at The Mad Batter for dinner...this despite the fact that they are more renown for their breakfast fare. Well, good call! The meal was outstanding. Fresh seafood prepared perfectly. The atmosphere is kinda neat, and we really enjoyed hanging at the bar afterward and listening to some great tunes by a couple of fine musicians. Only complaint: we were seated next to a door leading outside, and we caught some pretty cold breezes during dinner. But regardless, we would highly recommend The Mad Batter if you are hitting The Cape anytime of year.
A GEM of a Restaurant:)
Best Place to Eat in Cape May
Cocktails are Banging& the
Cusine is Delish!
Service is 5 Stars!!
Atmosphere is Adorable
Definitely a Foodie Favorite!
The problem we had was that the heat on the porch is under the seats and our legs were extremely warm. The window coverings were inadequate so our backs were freezing.
Service was good, outside enclosed patio area was nice, but, wasn't impressed with the food or wine.
Great place! Outside breakfast is wonderful! Great music by the bar and delicious food!
