Mad Batter Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We have had dinner here a number of times over the years, and each time the food has been excellent, the service great, and the value more than acceptable. This past time, our only disappointment was that our crab cakes arrived warm, not hot. They were still good, but we didn't want to ask to have it heated up as we were on a schedule to see a play afterwards. Having said that, we certainly would return to the Mad Batter the next time we're in Cape May.
The food was absolutely amazing! I had the Seafood Risotto, it was superb. The scallops were cooked to perfection, the lobster was so fresh and the risotto itself was so tasty too. My husband got the twin filets, which were cooked to perfection as well. He asked for medium, and it was true medium unlike when you go to other places. The ambiance was delightful and the place was quaint and quiet. My husband and I would go back for dinner there anytime.
Mad Batter is the go to restaurant for VEGANS in Cape May. The chef is a vegan himself and makes sure there are several options available for vegan diners. Also, make sure you ask to be seated on the porch. It has been renovated and equipped with heaters and is much more quiet if you want to have a conversation at dinner.
We enjoyed dinner here as food was very good. However, it was a windy cold evening and the porch where we were seated was cold. We could feel the wind blowing through the plastic from our seats. We were not offered any other seating. The temperature of the dining room made the evening less than perfect. Would try again in Spring when not so cold outside.
We always try to make Cape May a part of our Christmas tradition, and this year, we wound up at The Mad Batter for dinner...this despite the fact that they are more renown for their breakfast fare. Well, good call! The meal was outstanding. Fresh seafood prepared perfectly. The atmosphere is kinda neat, and we really enjoyed hanging at the bar afterward and listening to some great tunes by a couple of fine musicians. Only complaint: we were seated next to a door leading outside, and we caught some pretty cold breezes during dinner. But regardless, we would highly recommend The Mad Batter if you are hitting The Cape anytime of year.
My filet was undercooked, Sent it back, When it was finally retuned it was so overcooked I couldn't eat it, Macaroni was cold, My husband ordered The red snapper with mashed sweet potatoes, They were so cold the butter wouldn't melt on it, Our neighbors were with us and what they ordered was cold as well.
How do we handle this ? If you send it back , it comes back dry and your party are done eating.
It's too late to get a new meal.So you eat cold food or go hungry.
In 40 years in my kitchen , no one has been served cold food.
First time there in a long time. Table of 8. Had plenty of room. Drink was great (Shipwreck). Was told by the waitress they were know for their seafood. Mine was bad to say a good thing about it. My Seafood Risotto was crunchy due to the uncooked Risotto and the sand from the seafood. Very disappointed. On the other hand my husband had the twin filets and they were cooked just right. He was very happy. Next time I will get the filet and crab cake.
We had a good time and the service was very good. The lighting in the back porch could have been not so bright for a evening meal. It was too bright in our opinion. Have gone to the Mad Batter several times, and the consistency of the food could be better. Have had the same dish several times and most times it was good, but a few times it was no very flavorful or over done. This was the salmon dinner entry.
It was our 1st time to the Mad batter for dinner. The food was fresh & delicious. The service was very good. The bar is alot of fun. We were lucky to catch the end of the "Open Mike" session on Sunday night. That was really entertaining. If you want to catch it though, get there early. Seems like the bar is very popular with the locals as well as guests. I would highly recommend the Mad Batter for breakfast lunch and dinner!
We have gone to Cape May for more than 30 years. Mad Batter was a frequent dinner location. It has slipped considerably since our last visit. We were crammed onto the porch. We both ordered the crab cake and filet entre. The steak was overcooked and the crab cake was dry. We were rushed through dinner. Not a good experience.
the baked brie appetizer was amazing and just the right size for one person, though perhaps a little pricy for how much you get. The best thing is how truly veg-friendly this place is - in addition to having both vegan and vegetarian options on their dinner menu, I was able to add fried tofu to my entree for a protein-boost. The linguine is meh, as is the marinara, but my husband loved his ravioli and we had a delightful apple cheesecake for dessert - perfect for a cool October night.
