Located on a charming street in Cape May. We were seated on the Porch with a good view of the Victorian Houses. Our server was most attentive, brought back a too rare filet perfectly done. The cocktails were inventive and perhaps the best Tiramisu ever.
Everytime we asked the waitress for something for our kids she would basically roll her eyes. Not sure why?
I have been a regular customer at Mad Batter for almost 30 years and love almost everything about it!
Very disappointed when I brought a friend to dinner last Tuesday night and we both ordered a fish dish and both were ridiculously over cooked. Our fish was difficult to even cut with a knife! Since we had a play to see at Cape May Stage, we did not have the time to send our meals back. .. our almost full plates just went back to the kitchen.
The restaurant is still charming, especially sitting on the remodeled front porch.
They were very kid friendly, great service and very nice greeters.
Second time back to the Mad Batter. Sat on front porch for eating which was a nice spot. Food was outstanding and so was the service. Having a dedicated gluten free menu with a real variety for my wife to choose from is a real plus. Definitely going to be a regular stop on our trips to Cape May.
As usual good food with portions at decent sizes. Always like the live music when it’s around
Twin fillet mignons and crab cakes were delicious! I would definitely go back!
Food was mediocre. Nice setting.
The food was delicious! I always love eating there!
Great meal and service, enjoyed our first visit here!
Not good, not bad. Very touristy. Host was a bit much!!!
Had a very good meal with very nice menu choices. Our server was excellent and kept checking if we needed anything and if everything was ok. Always one of our choices when in Cape May. Very good for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Service was good. However, after the appetizer it all went downhill.
Steak was tough, corn on the cob was cold & the baked potato lukewarm.
Extremely disappointing, will not return.
One of my favorite places to dine when I visit cape May
Food is always on par - always a favorite stop in cape May- please never discontinue your wings they are the best dish on the menu
odd start, good finish.
we had to be a bit aggressive for the host to get us a table in the Garden room, thinking that the best place for dinner. When we realized it was an enclosed garden with several noisy (loud) kids we went back and asked for another location. The very accommodating Host very nicely found a table on the lovely porch which was perfect and conversation-friendly.
Service was excellent, available, friendly.
The two salads starters were excellent, expecially my watermelon/strawberries/blueberries. WIfes pasta with shrimp was full of flavor. Unfortunately my Snapper was somewhat overcooked.
Note: Mains were huge, the Snapper came with a couple shrimp, mashed red potatoes, asparagus, roasted corn 'salsa' - all well done but the fish!
Good cocktails, small wine selection, very fairly proced
In fact, when looking at the food prices you may think high, but not after seeing the portions. Sharing is surely possible.
Hopping bar scene, even on a Tuesday.
It had been awhile since I had been at the Mad Batter. A friend is vegan so I thought they would have some good options. She ordered the vegan ravioli for her entree and I ordered the snapper and shrimp dinner from their regular menu. Both dishes were presented very nicely. My biggest disappointment of the night was looking at a beautiful piece of red snapper that was so over cooked and dry, it was a shame. The rest of the dish however was delicious. Our server recommended the vegan carrot cake for dessert, and that was outstanding. While some parts of our meal were very good, I might be hesitant to give it another try.
We went here upon recommendation of a fellow hotel guest. So glad we did! From the moment you walk up you feel the magic of this place. We were fortunate enough to sit on the open air porch with a beautiful view of neighborhood Victorian homes. My son is vegan and we were delighted to see the abundance of vegan options available to him! I enjoyed a vegetable panini while my husband's barbecued skirt steak was out of this world! My son was able to enjoy a bountiful delicious vegan meal of vegetable ravioli including vegan cheese in a delicious tomato sauce.
Don't miss this place while in Cape May. It truly is the definition of a Neighborhood Gem!
It was okay. We came on the recommendation of a friend but overall felt like our experience fell short. We had outdoor seats, which were really great, the porch definitely feels cozy in the summer with its cushioned benches, and string lights! My fiance got the snapper and I got the paella with mussels. The paella had good flavor; unfortunately, several of the mussel shells were broken and the shards were mixed in throughout my food, so I had to be careful to pull the shards out before taking a bite. My fiance was disappointed that his snapper was tough to chew, but the accompanying battered shrimp were great. Service was good, our beers were great, and we additionally enjoyed the bread and oil that was served. Maybe it was an off night? We might come again.
This is the second time I have been to the Mad Batter. My first experience was outstanding. This last experience, not so much. My fish was cold in the middle. Maybe it was an off night. I liked it so much the first time I may give it another try
The restaurant was comfortable temperature wise noise level was good, food was yummy just one dish, the red snapper was over done .
An amazing place with an amazing view. My lady picked it out and was one of the greatest restaurants we’ve ever been to. Take a shot with the special steak and it was amazing can’t wait to go back no complaints
Great service..very friendly! The Chilean Seabass was very moist and flavorful. Highly recommend it.
Great place to dine if visiting Cape May. It’s located in the downtown historic district in a Victorian house on a very Victorian Street. Worth visiting not only for its cuisine but for the architecture as well. Had dinner and the crab cakes and New England clam chowder were delicious. They have a bar and drink menu so no BYOB. Heard the breakfast was great as well but didn’t get to try it since we stayed at a B&B. Highly recommend!
Service is outstanding, however my seafood risotto was a bit under seasoned. I am not a salt person at all but this had none. Other than that everything else was great.
Always a stop for us when we come to Cape May. Great food, wide selection and top notch service. Never disappoi ts.
Always a good meal!!
The food was outstanding from the appetizers, salad, to the main course. Alcohol was inexpensive. The Ambiance was very good and the service was fantastic
Great service provided by host, bus person and server! Food was delicious and live entertainment was great, but not intrusive. We enjoyed our evening celebrating my father’s birthday in this beautiful setting.
Food was not good at all. Overpriced and tasted like a cheap restaurant. Setting was very nice though and the beer selection was good.
Fun, casual, amazing menu for all! Very eclectic and service great! Had a yummy dinner but wouid love to try it for breakfast!
Our first time here and did not disappoint! Anna was our server and she was amazing. She answered all of our ridiculous questions. Drew, the host, was very welcoming and checked on us continuously. Very energetic and friendly, made the experience even better. Food was delicious and we did not leave hungry!!!! Definitely recommend, great food, great service.
You absolutely must visit here when going to Cape May. Kid friendly in a beautiful part of town. Full of energy and very nest looking. Food was amazing and the staff were all so polite and fun, the Matradi Drew was so sweet, professional and looks to be such a fun personality!
We asked for outdoor seating as part of our reservation and once we got there we were told that was not available. We then waited a long period of time while no food was brought our way. Our waitress was nowhere to be seen. One member of our party asked for a Porkchop which was brought to him raw in the middle. When he asked for one that was more well done we waited an extra 20 minutes and another one was brought to him, however this one was also raw in the middle. I asked for a vegan nachos with seitan on top as listed in the menu, and what was brought to me were the nachos with nothing on top and setan as a separate dish. None of the food that we had was well prepared. The final straw was when we asked for our check and was given a check that wasn’t ours. Overall the service wasn’t good, the food mediocre to in edible and the kitchen and wait staff seemed very unorganized. We were there for a very special event, and anniversary party, and we’re completely disappointed.
Ok food with OK service. Much better in Cape May.
Had a great time at the Mad Batter. Came on a Sunday night while they had an "Open Mic" night which was lots of fun listening to everyone sing. The service was wonderful....staff was great and the food was delish...what more could you ask for!
We had eaten here several years ago and remembered having a great meal, so knowing we wanted bring our daughter and family to Cape May to celebrate her 40th birthday we knew the Mad Batter was where we wanted to go. The crab cakes were especially delicious as were all our meals. The combo of crab cake and filet mignon was a good choice as well. We had a bottle of reisling that was also great.
Dinner food was ok, but overpriced. Poor presentation. No dinner ambiance. Suggest they stick to their strengths; breakfast!
We were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken. We were brought delicious ciabatta rolls with oil and seasonings. Our appetizer arrived quickly and was delicious, giving us high hopes for the entree. two of us ordered the "famous, jumbo lump meat crabcake". Total disappointment. Not a lump to be found, just a lot of filler with some visible shreds of crab. The third entree was a vegetable ravioli which was good. Pleasant decor, quiet because we were eating early, but a $30+ crab entree at a shore restaurant should be MUCH better than the flavorless cakes we received.
