Mad Batter Restaurant
We eat at Mad Batter every time we visit Cape May, it’s by far my favorite; from the drinks to the amazing bread/spices/oil to the dinners. We love this place!
Made reservations online and again they could not find us. 95 degrees and they wanted to seat us out in the front porch area which was ventilated by ceiling fans. Asked to be seated inside because it was too hot, and was told they had to see if they had a table. They walked us through to the back where there was air conditioning- btw we passed through about 10 maybe more open tables before we were seated. There were many flies in the dining room. The only great part of our dinner was our waitress. She was very nice, efficient and made a bad experience better. Couldn’t be upset because she was that good. We’ve eaten here many times before had overall ice times. I’m not sure what happened this time.
Overall great experience!
We have enjoyed going to the Mad Batter for many, many years and look forward to our next visit next summer. Service is excellent and the menu and the dinners are excellent from start to finish. Thank you.
Food was delicious! The vegan Wellington was outstanding. Great vegan options.
My family of seven had breakfast here twice. The food was awesome. Then my husband & I had dinner at and my GF pasta was fabulous & husbands steak & crab cake were equally as good. We enjoy the live music during our dinner
Not impressed. Server walked past me several times before coming to my table. Macaroni and cheese was oily and looked like it had been sitting out for awhile. Crab cakes lacked any flavor. Wouldn’t recommend.
service was excellent , fish was overcooked but edible, drinks were well made.
Lines around the block for breakfast, but also a worthy place to have dinner. Tasty, nicely presented, nothing crazy, just nice beach restaurant fare. Pleasant and friendly.
Delicious, delicious, delicious! The food is always amazing!!!
We had a wonderful meal to celebrate me daughter’s 10th birthday. We sat in front of the garden which was a beautiful view and everyone loved their food. There were plenty of vegetarian and vegan options which I loved because that is rare for a restaurant and didn’t have to sacrifice or adjust my diet and it was delicious! Can’t wait to go back!
Even though the Mad Batter has been around for a long time, they still continue to provide a high-quality meal in a nice atmosphere. (We were seated on the porch) The wife has a scallop dish and I had seafood risotto. Both were quite good. We will return.
Ambiance, both indoors and outside, was simply beautiful. The staff were courteous and welcoming. Last, and most certainly not least, the food and cocktails were AMAZING. Cannot wait for our next visit!!
The food was solid, but not great. After reading reviews and hearing about how good this place was, I was disappointed that the food wasn’t better. Service was fantastic. Drinks were delicious.
What a gem of a place! We visited the Mad Batter twice during our stay in Cape May. Our waitress was amazing during our first visit. The bar tenders were fantastic during our second visit. The food and drinks were perfect both visits! Definitely a must!
The soft shell crab tempora was terrible.
I love soft shell crabs but this was a horrendous way to prepare It! Thumbs down!
Everything was excellent
Had a very varied menu with many choices, especially for my vegan granddaughter. Food was well prepared and service was good. We even returned a cocktail that one in our party after one tast did not care for it and we were not charged for it, which was very generous.
As always, amazing food and great service!!
Awesome food, good service and beautiful ambiance!
One of my favorite places in Cape May
Although the ambiance and setting was unique, the food was underwhelming. I did not think the food was worth the prices. Our steak was undercooked and poorly seasoned. My macaroni was like warm. It also took us longer to get our drinks then it did to get our appetizers. If you wanted a drink with your meal, you had to order it 20 minutes prior to ordering your food. Overall, for the price you are paying - the food was not worth it.
It was full of families with small, screaming young children/babies. At $35 an entree this is not the environment I would return to as a couple. This was much different than previous experiences at the Mad Batter, but our waitress said this was actually less noisy with children than usual.
We had the filet and crab cake and it was really good. I had a really nice night. Thank you
Left a note on the reservation to have a table away from the main entrance, they seated me at the table closet to the main entrance, bread came out the same time as the appetizer, we left to use the restroom and our clothe napkins were taken, only to be replaced by bar paper napkins.... also left a note it was a birthday dinner, nothing was done or acknowledged for this. Overall, the staff was not trained correctly and are not operating effectively. Food was good.
Lots of great vegetarian options.
Have special needs child staff was extremely accommodating to us
Wonderful location- love the decor & bar area. Our server Patti was awesome as were the other staff we encountered. Our food and specialty drinks were fab too! Even caught some live music after dinner with a local craft beer.
Very much a Cape May institution (I was told), this delightful restaurant was fun and a terrific choice for a family dinner location. Vegan- friendly menu for some of our group. Plenty of choices and an innovative drink list as well. Highly recommend.
We love the Mad Batter. The food, the service, Happy Hour all good!
Excellent as always! Highly recommended!
Excellent food and friendly attentive server
Great crab cakes and salads!
This is our second time at the Mad Batter....food is very consistent and delish and the staff is always pleasant. The extra plus is the music...open mic nights...solo acoustics....all sorts of music which makes for an extra enjoyable experience
We dined here while on vacation in Cape May. This was our second visit, the first being 2 years ago. It was me and my two teenage daughters. We are always struggling to find restaurants that will accommodate vegans, since one of my daughters is a vegan, but no one else is.
This fit the bill perfectly. There were several good vegan dishes for her to choose from, and not just a veggie burger. She enjoyed the white bean ravioli, my other daughter had theshrimp scampi, and I had a grouper special. Nice cocktails and wine. Attentive service. Everyone was happy, which is rare in our group.
I highly recommend.
We had a lovely seat on the front porch. I love the high backs of the booths as they give a little more privacy. Our waitress was adorable. Very friendly and efficient and aimed to please us. Our food was very good. I had the twin filets which were done just right. Hubby had the Seafood Couscous and enjoyed it. They had a wonderful cocktail that is extremely refreshing called Mr. Fuzzy Fingers - I think? Highly recommend
Ambience was good, the service was a little slow, we did not like our drinks and they kindly replaced it. The food was good but low on seasoning, seafood was well cook.
They don’t have provide the meals is what my wife desired. There are not lots of lists of menu. Foods was good but little overcooked. Service is good.
Great meal, great environment. Very diverse menu, meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan options means everyone has a great meal. Great drinks too!
The ambiance of the restaurant was casual and pleasant as expected. The staff was courteous and attentive. The food, however, fell short of expectations. My order of filet mignon and crab cake was substandard. The crab cake was average but the filet was so over cooked that the edges were charred and hardened. A requested medium was over well done. For this, I give a below average rating.
