Mad Batter Restaurant
Cute place. Servers tried to be polite but seemed forced into fee
Best crab cakes ever, would love the recipe for them and sauce.
This is THE place to eat in Cape May. Location is great, it's very clean, food is very good and a lot of choices, service is great and it's a wonderful quaint place - the quintessential Cape May restaurant.
They have a good selection of vegan options and it was a treat to have a vegan dessert on the menu! It was devoured by all 3 of us!
We sat in restaurant area, very non-descript decor, but pleasant and casual. Bar area looked to be more festive.
Waiter was friendly but wouldn't say over-concerned about our dining experience.
Food was delicious, although expensive.
Good beer and wine selection.
The place looks beautiful on the inside and the food was amazing but feel like we were forgotten about once we were seated it took almost 20 minutes to get our drinks and our drinks never got refilled. Would I come back yes the food was that good but the service could have been better.
Yummy food! Great waiter. Even had breakfast earlier that day too. Can’t go wrong.
Service was good. Food was creative.
Loved the atmosphere! The service was rushed, the entree arrived before the appetizer was finished. Request extra time between courses. The food does arrive to the table hot so having the timing right would make for a fabulous meal.
We went out with kids (ages 6,4,3 and 18 mon) and it was fabulous. Service was quick, they put us on the enclosed patio as to not bother people in the front of restaurant and food was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive as well. Great experience
It was excellent!
We had been looking forward to dining here, but perhaps The Mad Batter is known only for its breakfasts. The arugula salad had a lot of yellowed and wilted leaves and I had to send it back. The fish and chips were soggy. Both were taken off the bill. It was a poor dining experience, and we left hungry and disappointed. I wouldn’t trust the kitchen here again.
Not like it used to be. Food just not very good. Won’t go back
The Mad Batter has been our favorite place in Cape May for a long time. They did not disappoint :)
Food was great; service great; seating area a little uncomfortable - tight, low chairs, chilly
Both Food and dessert (made on premises by a wonderful pastry chef, we were told by our server) were delicious. Our server (sorry I forgot her name) a young woman only working at the restaurant one week, I believe she said she was originally from Guatemala, was outstanding. She was attentive, sweet and caring. The wine list was also very good. Will definitely return.
We stayed at the Carroll villa B&B, which included discounts for the Mad Batter. We enjoyed our first nights dinner so much, we ate their the second night.
We also had breakfast both mornings. The food was outstanding, along with the service. I wish I had everyone’s name, to mention them. We were their for my wife’s birthday, and I can honestly say it was one of our best weekends away in a long time.
After dinner each night we went to the pub which had live music... there was no reason to leave the property. No jacket required.
We did have a great server who had a great personality, she seemed to be their all weekend. I want to thank her. SUE made our weekend special, along with all the other employees from the front desk to the bartenders.
We have already planned another visit, I think Cape May is best during the off season. Free parking and not as crowded.
Breakfast and lunch are great and very reasonably priced. Dinner is quite expensive if you order a standard entree. There are less expensive offerings burgers and pizza, but not so for dinner entrees. The food was good, but not worth the price. Stick with wonderful breakfasts and very good lunches here.
After you get over the fact that the restaurant is the front porch of the hotel, you find yourself in a quaint and charming place. The beer choices were outstanding - never saw so many top choice IPAs in one spot (and I drank as many of them as I reasonably could). The food choices were limited, but each of them looked special. I had the crab cakes - they were very good. My wife loved the shrimp and scallops with ravioli. The service was excellent - friendly and efficient. We really enjoyed the whole experience and will return again soon.
I had heard so many raves, but we were disappointed. The noise and heat were both high. The food was lacking in flavor. Not an inexpensive evening either.
Delicious food, excellent service, great selection of craft beers. There was live music at the bar.
Went for an anniversary dinner and stated so on Open Table. We were seated right by a table at the front door where people wait for their table to be ready. There was a very loud couple waiting and were within 5 feet of our table. Surprised that the hostess didn’t initially say anything to them, but when we mentioned it to waiter- he said they would work on it. I would suggest that they get rid of the first table by hostess station.
Food was good and served promptly.
If you go- suggest not being seated at the first table by the door
Food and service were excellent. Noise level was high; a very loud young man was shouting across the table to diners at another table.
Both the service and food were a disappointment for the cost. Also the Happy Hour and the following entertainment were only in the Bar area and not part of the main restaurant area.
Dinner very good. More than you can eat. Wife had Tuscany linguine. I had ravioli with shrimp. All very good. Brie appetizer. Excellent. Then breakfast - also very good. Lots of choices. Especially recommend breakfast. As usual parking is a hassle.
Casual atmosphere with excellent service and entrees.
They reported me to OpenTable as a no-show even though I arrived right on time and ate as scheduled. So I emailed them to ask them how they could have made such a mistake, and they never bothered to respond. A restaurant this disorganized shouldn't even be using the OpenTable app.
Rainy Thursday night. We specifically chose the restaurant because of their participation with Open Table. We followed the meticulous directions for redeeming our very first gift certificate. The food was uneventful except for my filet mignon which was served raw and needed to returned to cook longer. The music was pleasant as was our sever. When I presented my Open Table gift card (basically a master card gift card) I was treated as though I was crazy! The waiter even called his manager wHo told him in all of her relationship with Open Table, there was no such program. We paid in full, despite our utter embarrassment and disappointment.
We will not return as the treatment was that stern and unreasonable.
Always love the Batter!
Overall a great experience. However the noise level from the band in the bar was way toooooooo loud!
If they sat us in there, we would of asked to be moved or have left!
The service was just okay but the food was superb. I had a 5 oz filet mignon and crabcake with 4 cheese macaroni and fresh asparagus. The filet was cooked perfectly and everything was delicious!
Busy St Patrick’s Day, the the restaurant sat us right away. Food and service were very good. Best lobster bisque ever and the boneless whole bronzino was delicious.
Everything about this place is wonderful, especially if you are vegan or gluten-free. The food is delicious and visually attractive! Our server Carol was knowledgeable and assisted in making sure everything was perfect!
Fun location. Great options for rooms in which dinner is served. Loved the drinks and dinner and the staff was great. Actually ate there two nights in a row.
A favorite of ours to return to again and again. Live music and good food - a great combination
We we're sat on the porch which is closed in for the season but had a cold draft on us the whole time. Tables are sat very close together. Best part of the meal was the bottle of wine we got! Food was varying degrees. Steak came out rare, instead of medium. Instead of serving new steak, they fried that one further which made it we'll done. Wasn't worth expressing concern a second time. Overpriced for the quality we received. ;(
We have been eating here for many years. I have an allergy to anything with wine, even if it’s cooked out. This was the first time that I had some issues but they were able to make some modifications.
Great service & delicious meals all around for our party of 5.
Great food great music in the heart of Cape May!
