Perfect meal for a special occasion. We wanted our out of town family to experience the best of Cape May, they were not disappointed! Live music, great service and the crab cakes were so good. It’s worth the trip.
We were staying at the hotel and had both breakfast and dinner at the mad batter. Both the service and food were excellent . Sat in the back dining room for dinner and was able to enjoy the music from the bar without it being to loud . I think it was a great value for the quality of food.
Made reservations in advance at least 6 days prior. Arrived early and had a beverage. Waited to be seated by Host and was going to seat us in the front ,brightly lit Formica tables. After much pleading and effort we were seated in the back. First timers, be sure to request the bar or dining room . The Host was rude and did not handle a simple situation and fix with a pleasant attitude. The hostess helped but attitude needs improvement as well . These 2 need better people skills and even some manners when dealing with people that are spending a decent amount of money for Dinner Our server was great however( From Mexico City ) and the food was exceptionally good. Great local place with all the vibes. Will go back.
The food was very delicious but was served to us at room temperature/cold. Service was very slow and it was obvious our food sat under the warmer for quite some time. First time to Cape May and read great reviews. Drinks and dessert were great!!
Had an excellent dinner last night at the Mad Badder. Our server was very good and very attentive.
We really enjoyed our dinner. Will be back again!
Everything was perfect The food and service were wonderful.
Diner atmosphere at fine restaurant prices. Obnoxious, loud diners. Staff could not move us to a better table because they said the main restaurant was taken by a private party. Looked mostly empty to us. Should have left. My filet and crab cake entree was very good; wife’s vegetable Wellington and an unusual clam soup were only passable.
Overpriced for mediocre food. The special was supposed to be seafood risotto but it consisted of 3 shrimp, two scallops, very little crab meat and was mostly very bland and lumpy rice and was $34.00.
This place is absolutely phenomenal. The entertainment is exceptional. The food glorious. The service perfect.
This restaurant never disappoints. It is amazing for breakfast as well as dinner. Very comfortable environment. Outstanding seafood risotto and crab cakes.
Mad Batter is always good, breakfast or dinner. Never disappoints
Very disappointed in our dining experience. I ordered the beet and goat cheese salad and the beets were canned beets. The chicken wings were the highlight of the apps. I wasn't even done eating my salad when our main course came and my son and husband had just finished their apps. The butternut squash ravioli was under cooked as was the ravioli in my son's dish.
Birthday dinner was excellent.
Mad Batter never disappoints! No matter what entree or dessert is chosen it is phenomenal. We went twice while visiting Cape May this weekend. Dan was our waiter the first night and Chris the next. Both very personable, professional and made my husband and I feel like we were the only guests. Highly recommend. We have been coming here for about 9 years.
The service and food were excellent, we cannot wait to go back!
One of my favorite places to eat in Cape May. Great menu and a nice selection of beer. Fun place to hang and listen to live music as well.
The food was delicious and portions were large. The salads we ordered for fresh and full of flavor. We had the filet, crabcake and mac and cheese platter--and it was simply outstanding. The preparation of the crabcake was especially unique and abundant in sweet crab! Our bottle of wine was excellent and a good value for the price. An exceptional evening out!
Good food but pricey.
This was our 3rd time & was great, just like the previous visits!
Love this place. Great food and if you need gluten free like my wife, you can't beat their gluten free menu.
I had always gone to the Mad Batter for breakfast which is a must do in Cape May but never for dinner. The food was excellent, the menu had a nice selection to choose from, the service was quick and courteous. Overall a great experience and will definitely do again on my next visit.
Great food choices and lots of vegetarian options. Upscale but not stuffy, just a fun, comfortable place to have a delicious sit down meal
Had a terrible experience here which seems to becoming more common recently. I've been coming to this restaurant for years and in the past year the quality of the food has drastically gone down. For my entree I ordered the twin filets and asked for it cooked medium rare. When the food finally came out to start off my steaks were barely warm and everyone else's was also cold besides one persons dinner. Not a huge deal but when I cut into the first steak it was completely raw on the inside. After sitting there for about 10 minutes we finally got the waitresses attention and I asked for it to be cooked a little more. She didn't seem very concerned and didn't apologize and took the steaks back to the kitchen. She came back about 10 minutes later and dropped the steaks off and I immediately cut into the steaks again as she was trying to hurry away from the table. Once I cut into the steak it was clearly still not cooked and her response was "that's what our medium rare is but I can have it cooked again if you'd like." I really am not one to complain but even after the second time the meat was still completely raw and purple and clearly was way undercooked but apparently that's what the mad batter considers medium rare. After the waitress walked away we did not see her again until it was time to bring us the check. When she came back over she saw I had not eaten anymore of my dinner and said "I guess it was still not cooked enough for you." I said I dont think this is cooked enough for anyone because it is clearly still raw and said I would take it home and cook it myself. She didn't even offer as much as an apology which I did not think was acceptable since we were spending $200+ on cold/undercooked food. If this type of service continues I dont think you will last much longer and I can guarantee neither myself or anyone in our group will ever be back.
The location of the Mad Batter is in a prime location, right around the corner from the
Washington St. shops, and a very short walking distance from the beach. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and the wall art is very eye catching. You can buy the art too. I found a beautiful piece I could not leave behind.
The staff is very friendly and attentive as well as accommodating. The food was excellent. Plenty to choose from and the menu offered vegan dishes. The food was served quickly, and it was fresh and hot. I repeatedly went back to The Mad Batter for breakfast and dinner because I enjoyed it so much. The atmosphere was relaxing. Casual. Prices reasonable.
Would highly recommend.
Love this place! Their vegan options are outstanding. And the hotel, Carroll Villa, is a gem, so book your room as well as dinner. And breakfast is just as good.
Food was fantastic; everyone had some to take home. Scallops and crab cakes were the most popular. Servers were very attentive despite being extremely busy with several tables.
Always a great place to dine while in Cape May. A nice varied menu.
Had a group of 8 for a Saturday dinner.
Menu was creative and offered several vegan choices as well as steaks and seafood. I had seafood rissoto which was good. Steaks were enjoyed as well!
Carol our waitperson was efficient, pleasant and relaxed. We enjoyed her!
Cocktails were very good .
Only complaint, parking is terrible. Also not a good place for quiet conversation.
My boyfriend and I visited The Mad Batter for dinner during our weekend stay in Cape May. We decided to visit as it was highly recommended by a family member. We were seated on the porch which I assume is very nice during the summer months when the window awnings are up. The tables are very close to one another & the couple next to us actually chimed in to our conversation (kind of awkward..). I ordered the seafood risotto which the waitress said was a “great choice”. I personally felt that it lacked flavor... I was definitely expecting more. My boyfriend ordered a pasta dish which he enjoyed. Overall, our experience was mediocre. I would come back, but not before visiting other area restaurants.
Food was good. Very casual atmosphere. Very pricey given the quality of the space and food.
Here for dinner with family on a busy Saturday night. There was live music which was fun. We came in for a casual dinner and had a few different salads, hummus and pita appetizer, crab cakes - fantastic!, and a burger. Everything was tasty and very well prepared. Especially appreciated that while there was dressing on the salads they weren't over-dressed or soggy. Service was excellent, drink selection was very good, food was terrific. As busy as the restaurant was, food and drinks were delivered quickly and we never felt ignored or rushed. Would definitely eat here again. Make reservations!
Love the Waldorf chicken salad croissant with small garden salad. It’s my go to! Also, they make a great chocolate Martini. Only negative is they don’t serve White Zinfandel but it’s not a deal breaker.
This is one of my favorite restaurants, the food and service are always outstanding. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cape May as a "must go to" for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The new dining area is now on the porch, it is nothing like the original Mad Batter experience. Very uncomfortable and unappealing. Others were complaining about it during our dining experience.
The food quality is not consistent. My dinner was good while my wives pasted was the worst ever, totally overcooked. Not acceptable while paying $35 per entree and dropping $150 for dinner. Drinks are overpriced and the glasses are not filled where they should be.
Plenty of other great places to eat in beautiful Cape May!
Everything was served hot. The food was very tasty. The menu stated that the clam chowder was thick and hearty, but it was watery and thin. When we told the server, she said it was because it was gluten free. Who orders gluten free clam chowder? Anyway, the service was good and the dining area was clean. The menu options will meet most palates and everything is delicious.
We have been to your establishment before, and this was the best tasting dinner ever! the seafood risotto was delicious, but the filet mignon and crab cake was heaven!!
We enjoy going - always a nice time at Happy Hour an food is good!
I love this place! My one huge complaint and suggestion is to have one option for dessert that is both gluten free and dairy free!
Great menu and cocktails plus energetic vibe. The only downside of our meal was our very unprofessional waitress who constantly interrupted the meal and kept asking to clear our plates. She was pregnant, so maybe she just wanted to go home...but her attitude was a detriment to the evening.
The musicians performing in the bar area were spectacular!! What a treat!
Great dinner, although the sodium content must have been high. I got the seared tuna, and my husband got the salmon and we felt the sodium height the rest of the night. The service was great, although we did feel we were being gently moved on after eating. All in all good experience, good food, good service. Next time we will attend a bit more tonhownfood is cooked (high sodium sauces).
