Chicken salad was warm and was tasteless. Crab cake was huge but just okay. Fell apart in the roll. Fries were soggy.$59.00 for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks. Not worth it. Just okay

Upscale porch seating and food.
Fresh local ingredients. GF options.
Refreshing drinks and live entertainment in the bar. One of our favorites for years.

6/13/19 Scampi with scallops had very little flavor. Cost $30. Vegetable Wellington was good only because the sauce was. Vegetables had no seasoning. Twin filet dinner was very good. Child’s flounder also very good. I think the better reviews come from breakfast and lunch. Disappointing dinner for a 4 star restaurant.

We always make a stop at the Mad Batter with our two daughters, ages 10 and 13, when we come to Cape May. Great food, always excellent service and it’s a fun atmosphere. Try the Bayberry Wings with the Thai chili sauce! We could just make appetizers into a meal. Love the hummus and roasted pita, and delicious salads, as well as cocktails too.

Thank you for your review. We agree, the Bayberry Wings are yummy. And, it's OK to share several appetizers instead of entrees - that way you can try a lot of different items from the menu. Hope to see you again soon!

WE LOVED MAD BATTER! We ate during Cape May Restaurant Week and what a deal for meals! There was no skimping on the portions and everything was seriously delicious! We sat on the enclosed porch. It was so cozy! We'll be back!

It was restaurant week in Cape May. I know this puts a lot of stress on the restaurant and the staff, but the purpose is to impress the diners so they will come back and also recommend the restaurant. Our dining experience was totally mediocre. The food was less than average and the plating was like the food was thrown on the plate. I’ve eaten at the Mad Batter before and this dinner did not meet their usual dining fare. I had the salmon which was over cooked and dry. The sweet potatoes were boring. The asparagus was good but nothing special. It reminded me of the food I had eaten growing up. My mom was not a good cook but she got the job done.
Perhaps, It may be time for the Mad Batter to NOT participate in restaurant week.

Always a pleasure to eat at when we are in Cape May. And their attention to those needing gluten free dining with their separate gluten free menu is great.

Food was excellent! The ambiance did not however match the prices of the food, as the environment was not terribly refined, private or romantic. Serving staff was friendly, but not very attentive. We waited quite awhile for our dessert and also for our check, even though the dining room wasn’t very full. The food and beverages were really very good, would certainly try again! We especially enjoyed the lobster fritters, shipwreck punch and chorizo paella!

food was ok but below quality esp for the price. pretty place, nice location but we sat right next to the room with the bar in it and there was live music that was loud enough for us to not be able to hear ourselves easily. I was looking for romantic dinner and it wasn't that.

The personnel (from the host to the servers) was excellent. It is located in a beautiful street and it has an interesting set up. The place is divided into three areas, the front set of tables is located in an indoor porch (white and colorful modern booths), the second area is in the old bar and restaurant with dark paneling and a charming old bar (live music too!) and the third area is in the back, in a terrace that could be open in the summer. The menu was interesting, it contains many vegetarian options, the food was very good. The desserts were great, and the cocktails were excellent. It was a bit loud, but it was nice to have the music in the background.

It was a very busy evening and service was not up to it....very pleasant but folks were getting appetizers before drink orders were filled-I believe that there were not enough service folks on duty as the bar and interior dining room was ver full.

Food excellent as always as would recommend highly.

The Mad Batter is a restaurant I have been to several times over the years. It is pretty standard and, as I have indicated with the ratings, it is a "good" restaurant, but doesn't raise to the level of great or above, especially with all of the "great" and "outstanding" competition surrounding it. Nice for a casual lunch or dinner.
