Mad & Vin Ratings and Reviews
We sat in the upstairs private room and had Blake as our server. It was wonderful having our own space & being able to take our time with our meal. Wonderful pastas, pizzas, & full entree dishes. I had the filet mignon special and it was perfectly cooked. Wonderful service & ambiance.
Service was pretty awful -felt like I was in a diner. Was told the specials and asked was I ready to order. No offer of drinks , no descriptions of the entrees when we asked - I was ready for her to respond I suggest you order when I asked about her suggestion between two entrees. Ordered calamari and it came with tempura like jalapeños that I thought was a pepper. When I told waitress that she might let customers know that there was spicy components in the dish she said hmmm interesting and walked away. Food was good and it is a nice looking place but the service does not hold up.
Mad and Vin was wonderful for our girlfriend group of 7. The food and service was fabulous! We ordered everything from hamburgers to steak and everyone loved their meal. The portions are generous and the prices reasonable. The ambiance was amazing. The owners have done a great job of updating and upgrading an old hotel into a modern, contemporary ad beautiful space. We will definitely be visiting again! I would highly recommend making reservations as the space is fairly small and fills up quickly.
Food was excellent. Perfectly cooked, and the menu was well designed. The service wasn't up to par though. There was no one bussing the tables. There were no food runners. Our poor server was overworked, and so we sat there with dirty first course dishes in front of us, until the main course arrived. Then our server had us hand her the dirty plates to her so she could put the entrees down.
At a $32 per plate restaurant, this isn't acceptable. Our server did her best, it definitely wasn't her fault, but that really detracted from the experience.
Picking Mad and Vin was a long shot, just chose it from the internet for a group of friends getting together. We were all pleasantly surprised, lovely atmosphere, great food and bar. We live out of the area and all decided we would drive to Solvang just to have dinner there!
Love the ambience of Mad & Vin's bar area, the lobby of the Landsby hotel. Great place to start the night with an app (the olives!) and a cocktail (the shrubs!). The food was creative but not too whack-a-doo, and I fell in love with a salad with noodles. Fun place to celebrate the anniversary with the hubs.
Solvang cuisine has greatly approved over the last few years, and although not new, Saturday was our first time to Mad and Vin. The food was delicious, starting with the calamari ( very light fried shell) to the main course. The special fish was a crusted Halibut that hard a marvelous sauce, and the flat iron steak and duck fat fries were very good. Sarah was our server, and she took great care of us, helping us get out to the theater on time. We shall return!
We made a reservation based on a recommendation from a friend. Our experience did not disappoint at any turn. The restaurant space is so well done. The food was amazing. The staff were so personable, inviting, and provided the best customer service. I will definitely go back the next time I am in town!
We went to Mad and Vin for our anniversary and our meal was delicious; I would absolutely recommend the food. It just wasn't relaxing, and was very far from a romantic date place - we couldn't even get anyone to light the candle on our table! They had live music outside, which was awesome, except there was different music playing inside. Then people were continuously going in and out the door right next to our table to see the band. Finally, although everyone who worked there was pleasant, they must have been understaffed as our waitress seemed to be working at a frenetic pace. I'd recommend it on a non-weekend night if you are staying at the hotel anyway.
We received a gift certificate from some friends and enjoyed a nice meal in a quiet setting. Our waitress was very personable and told us about 2 special options for locals: Tuesdays the corkage is waived and on third Wednesdays there is a 3 course meal special. The bar menu looks interesting during happy hour.
Our experience was GREAT! Our server was lovely, and she was extremely helpful when I told her I was gluten free. If she was unsure about what was gluten free, she checked with the chef. Our food was so good, I had the Seafood Hot Pot & my husband had the burger...ground rib eye. Totally worth it! I thought the value was good overall. Solvang is expensive and some places are so over priced for what they serve. Not here, loved it!
Great food. Cool decor. Nice but very inexperienced staff. The outside patio is adjacent to a construction zone. My wife and I needed a snack when we arrived at the hotel, and we were seated on the patio without anyone mentioning the construction. Once we sat down, we noticed everything was covered with an inch of red dust (no exaggeration).
We mentioned this to the host, who then wiped down the table (our shoes and clothes were covered by the dust, in any case).
For dinner, a few hours later, the tables had been wiped down at least and the server was experienced.
For brunch the next day, we were once again seated outside (we have 2 support dogs), only to find the construction zone was active. We asked to be moved inside and the staff complied.
Once we were inside, we found the food to be lovely, but again, the service to be very slow and inexperienced. Each meal we had (three plus a desert), took much longer than it should have and didn't come with the customary touches that a mid level restaurant should employ.
excellent and original cocktails, fun place to eat at the bar, bright and cheerful dining room, good selection of lighter fare for folks like me who like to eat appetizers for dinner. very friendly. the touristy location put me off for a bit (I'm local), but after a friend took me here, I'm a regular. imho, as good as SY Kitchen and better than Red Barn.
The place is very nice inside, hard to find, however. The menu is very limited. One or two entrees per: meat ,veggie, chicken or fish. The service was barely adequate, meals took long time to get to table and there were only two other tables being served. The hotel portion is under remodeling. Because of the limited menu I check it on line before I go there again.
He menu was limited. More like bar food. The short ribs were tough and the potatoes greasy. The restaurant has steadily gone down hill for the last two years. We will not return.
The morning breakfast for guests of the Landsby offers only juice, coffee, muffins abd cereal. A diabetic could not eat this, although one can order off a menu at an additional cost. We have had better guest breakfasts at Hampton Inns, Marriott chains and other hotels. We expected more from the Landsby.
The salad with noodles was one of the top 5 salads I have EVER had. Just delicious. You could make a meal out of it by adding chicken or shrimp. Unfortunately, the ling cod was just okay. It was too peppery and I prefer mine more mild. Although the service was prompt, it lacked sophistication and was too hurried and sharp more like a pizza place.
We were staying at The Landsby Hotel where the restaurant is located. We made an 8:30pm reservation through open table. It was very obvious that our reservation was late for them and I truly believe they need to cut off reservations by a certain time - at least on weeknights. To pay $150 for a meal without even buying a bottle of wine or getting dessert or coffee is pricey but not something we were unable to do. We were on vacation and were looking forward to a nice romantic dinner together. Therefore, I do not expect to be rushed out of the place in 45 minutes. Not for those prices! The server couldn't have been nicer and she apologized for how fast the food came out. At the same time, other workers were setting up empty tables for breakfast service the next morning. Ultimately, they need to cut off rezzies by 730pm and learn how to NOT rush customers dropping $200 or more on a meal. Would not go there again.
