About Permanently Closed - Macy's - The Oak Grill
This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - A Minneapolis tradition was born on October 2, 1947, when the Oak Grill opened for business. Architect Bob Hansen used characteristics from the Jacobean period in the design of the rooms. The ornate fireplace, originally from Salisbury, England, was over 300 years old when it was transported in sections and reassembled in the Oak Grill. With its solid oak columns and vast frame, it soon became the room's focal point. Its distinctive appearance, along with dark paneling, red chairs and dim lighting, help give the Oak Grill its cozy ambiance.

Macy's - The Oak Grill - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Sad to this location is closing, since so many people have decades of memories behind it. That being said, I think our waitress already checked out. She never asked us if we wanted refills on our beverages, and it took about two hours to get through a simple lunch. It's not like it was in the old days, and I hate it when people say that!
I went with my sister and our parents. We are so sorry to know that will be our last lunch at the oak grill. We have so may good memories at this wonderful restaurant. My dad who is in his seventies used to go with his mom when he was young and we would go with our parents as little girls and once we had children would bring them on occasion. Our last lunch there was perfection! They were so busy but managed to be so organized and polite. We were lucky enough to have the best seat in the house and our server Luz was wonderful, and the food....delicious:)
The Oak Grill restaurant at Dayton's (yes, I know) is wonderful. The atmosphere and the décor is classic. Love it! Today, my 85 year-old mother and I enjoyed lunch in the Oak Grill ... simply for the memories and to enjoy it one last time.
My mother and father met in 1953 while they were both working at Dayton's. My mother had just immigrated to the U.S. from Canada and my father was in law school (U of M). They married in 1955 and raised eight children. My father went on to co-found one of the largest law firms in the Twin Cities. They had a wonderful life together for 60 loving years.
So long Oak Grill, my dear friend! You will be missed!
If you are trying to get one last meal in at the Macy's - The Oak Grill before they close, save your money. The menu has been reduced to a handful of items, the prices have been jacked up and the service was substandard. Popovers were dry and burnt, the meatloaf had too much salt, and the mashed potatoes were cold. This is not restaurant it used to be. Very disappointed.
Macy's Oak Grill is closing after many, many years and many awesome outings by me, friends, family and co-workers. So fun to go there on lunch. I'm going to miss the Oak Grill - especially their delicious popovers. Thank you for being so loyal to Minneapolis for so many years. Love you - Macys Oak Grill.
We wanted to take this opportunity to enjoy the Oak Grill one last time before it closes and I am so glad we did. I enjoyed a couple of pop-overs, wild rice soup and the chicken pot pie (tradition dictated this selection) and many of the rest of our party had the walleye. It was all very, very good and our server was even better. I'm sorry to see this place close.
Me, my mom and dad made a reservation since it was closing January 27th. My parents use to work there. My mom was a waitress and my dad was the first bartender. It was such an amazing lunch. I will miss Macy's and Oak Grill. I use to work at Macy's as well. Great company and wonderful people
