Mac's Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews
Sunday brunch party of two. We arrived ten minutes before our noon reservation and were seated immediately. Dining room was crowded but not overly-loud for a casual dining place. Service was quick and friendly, food was served perfectly-cooked and well-presented. My eggs Florentine was excellent and the fruit bar was well stocked with good fruit. A snafu with the bill was handled professionally.
Mac’s was recommended by my brother and a friend from work. It was mine and my wife’s 23 wedding anniversary and we were looking for somewhere different. We had gone over the usual places that we go and nothing sounded good. My brother had gone there for his anniversary the previous week. So we decided to try it out for ourselves. My wife was wanting some martini’s I told her my friend from work said they had very good ones. So we made online reservations when we arrived we were seated immediately . We were pleased with how quickly we were seated. We stated with a appetizer of scallops then onto the main course of rainbow trout and wild rice. They were excellent. After dinner we split a dessert which was the creme brûlée another excellent choice. When we received the bill we were quite surprised of the price. We decide to order 2 more desserts to go for our kids. We will be returning again with the kids next time. We enjoyed the place very much.
I have removed this place from my favorites. Over last two years, the food has decreased in quality and the service has been a hit or miss. They lack ability to cook flavorful fish as we saw with overdone crab claws and flavorless halibut. The noise level is not energetic, it is obnoxiously loud. Even as the restaurant cleared out we still could not hear one another across the table. This neighborhood "find" has turned into baseball wearing, person hollering, lousy fish chain resturant. Thank you, but no more we are done.
I'm getting a little tired of the menu never changing but I guess that's the appeal for many customers. The wait for food was inordinately long considering that the restaurant was not even halfway full. However, it's convenient and reliable. I'd just like some new options.
Four of us came for dinner. Two had steak, two had fish. Everything well prepared and delicious, as usual. Waitress was outstanding. My dinner, filet Oscar, was terrific. Gold Brick dessert always a hit. You gotta text to communicate with your party. Very LOUD.
Been going to Mac's since it first opened. I understand that prices need to increase, but what is upsetting is that portions have definitely reduced. Chicken picatta and cilantro chicken....two of my faves....have reduced the meat portion by 50%. The side of pasta has reduced by 30%. Also the picatta is now served dry and without capers. No good any more. The steaks are hit and miss...sometimes taste like the freezer and sometimes delicious. Always undercooked so order one step up. Good chicken fried streak and good baked potatoes. The salad and bread continue to be great and worth coming, and the bar drinks are good. The Brandy Alexander is wonderful.
This is always a place that my husband and I love to go for a date night. It can get a little bit loud so it's not super romantic but we usually request a table by the window where it's not as loud. The food is fantastic and the staff has never disappointed us. We will continue to go to Macs on our date nights!
Close to where we live so travel time was minimal. We had to wait about 15 minutes but enjoyed a cocktail in the bar. Once seated, the waitress was quick to take our order. The food was delicious. The only complaint is the noise level. Difficult to cary on conversation without yelling...but will return because of the convenience...and good food.
After moving to north Arlington, we hadn't been to Mac's on the south side in many years. We were curious to see if things had stayed the same and so happy to see the place crowded and still going strong on a Saturday evening! The menu has barely changed, so all our favorites were still there (and that salad!) - along with some interesting fish specials. The food quality and flavors were just as we remembered them - everything was delicious! Service was efficient and the noise level was lively, but we could still chat comfortably at our table. 'So happy that Mac's has endured through the years and continues to provide Arlington with a much-needed alternative to the (many) chain restaurants we must endure! We'll definitely return more often in the future!
