Pumpkin cooked w/onions, tomatoes, green peppers & spices
Basmati rice w/carrots and raisins
Tandoori Fish Masala Kebab
Cod fish marinated with fresh grated spices & tandoori masala
This was my first time dining in an Afghanistan restaurant. I had some dumplings with mint yogurt, topped with tasty ground meat ($8.00) as my appetizer, it was very enjoyable. For my main course I had the lightly salted lamb chops ($22). They were served well done (the waiter never asked how I wanted them cooked), and they were served lukewarm, while the vegetable on the same plate was the appropriate temperature. Those two facts made me wonder if the lamb chops were pre-cooked and reheated when I ordered them. If not, how does lamb chops come out well done and not hot, while the vegetable was?
Food is delicious! Service is great! BYOB ! Owner is lovely man! Will definitely go back!
Food is different and very tasty. Excellent value. Owner is attentive and very nice. BYOB which is very nice in Nyc.
Me encanta la comida del lugar, siempre que visito NY voy a comer ahí, lo recomiendo.
Kebabs were moist and flavorful, the pumpkin samosas were delicious, and there is plentiful outdoor seating as well as very large doors that ventilate the indoor space. In these times when international travel isn’t happening, great to converse with the owner about Afghan life. We look forward to coming back.
Beautiful place and excellent food. Kind and attentive safe. It was a great dinner.
Fantastic neighborhood gem. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. Also, the owner is such a lovely man. I m never disappointed and love the fact that you byob (bring) your own wine)
I had been wanting to try Afghan Kebab House, and am glad that I finally did. The food is just amazing. I started with the mashed pumpkin samosas, were which fantastic. I then had the tandoori fish with rice and Afghan bread, which was also delicious. I finished with the chocolate cake, which was wonderful. The service was solid and the prices were cheap by NYC standards. The perfect place if you want to try something different and affordable.
We and those who know best love everything about Afghan Kebab. A somewhat hidden treasure. Food is always outstanding, as is atmosphere (indoor and out), along with exceptional value. Isman and all staff are fantastic. A forever favorite.
One of the absolute gems in this neighborhood. We have gone now 4 times and each time has been fantastic. The fried pumpkin turnovers/dumplings, scallion/beef dumplings with yogurt, fried beef dumplings, chicken tandoori, lamb kefta and naringe palau are all wonderful. Service is always polite and prompt. Plus byob with no corkage fee seals the deal.
First dinner out in 5 months and it was perfection.
Food was great, restaurant is very nice, with great parking options. Service was bad even though we were four people with reservations. The owner/main Manager was very nonchalant about timing and our general seating options, menu choices and ordering. I may come back because the good was pretty good, but will try another place first.
The best restaurant, local and worth the trip if farther away. Food always delicious, prices so reasonable, atmosphere lovely, and the owner and service are fantastic. And don’t miss the surprising and amazing chocolate cake.
Such a great value for delicious, authentic food. Excellent staff, atmosphere, and all around a wonderful experience every time.
Good food and good people. What more can one ask!
Outstanding food, service, atmosphere, and decor!
I love eating here. Great food and a lot of character!
The chicken and lamb that we ordered was delicious, however we also opted for one of the vegetable plates which was underwhelming. Interestingly enough, the rice was a real stand out. Delicious. The menus are held together with duct tape, which was a little disconcerting, but the food was high-quality even though the vegetables were nothing much. The interior was quite charming but could use a little bit of love, just like the menus.
Lovely place with good food. They allow you to bring your own wine which results in it being a terrific value.
Terrible. Food extremely sour. The service was poor. Will not return
The food was authentic and delicious, and it’s a BYO, which is an added bonus
As always, great authentic Afghan food in a colorful environment. The owner/waiter/wise man is a delight. “Aushak” a must, either as appetizer or main course (or both!). Caution: BYOB (several places to buy within a block or two).
Great food, great place, and an amazing price. You can bring your own wine and have it uncorked here.
The quality of the food was distinctly lower than on several previous visits. The chcken still had the skin on and the lamb was tough and chewy.
he waiter did not ask if we wished to have any liquor, wine or beer.
The interior is dated.
The cup of Turkish Coffee was 1/2 full with coffee sediment. The Decaf coffee was very good. The baklava was fresh and well made and very tasty.
Restaurant was empty asked for a specific table he said it was reserved nobody sat there the entire time we were there.
The person taking the order acted as if he was doing us a favor.
It was quite an unpleasant experience will never go there again
Food was good but the portions were very small, disappointing that I didnt even get full after ordering so much
Wonderful fresh tasty food with balanced spice. My vegetarian friend was satisfied. My carnivore husband enjoyed his plate. We brought our own win which was also a winner.
One of my standing old time favorites :) love that it’s byob
Love Afghan house. Authentic food and delicious. Very affordable. It’s a one man show. It’s a BYOB. highly recommended.
Food was amazing. Had the grilled fish combo plus an eggplant in yoghurt side dish. Also started with their appetizers which were a pumpkin pastry and a chive dumpling. The dumpling was rather underwhelming and soggy. However the fish was the star of the meal and was succulent yet roasted with little charred bits that were full of flavor.
But the service by the middle aged man who seems to be the owner was awful. He had an attitude, wouldn’t let me choose my seat/ table and was rather snarky. He later on started complaining about how bad American Express is and how one customer cheated him. Anyway, he has no idea about customer service and showing customers some respect. Definitely won’t be coming back here because of him in particular... unfortunately
We always love this restaurant! Delicious food and wonderful service!
I went on a Saturday evening at 7:30pm. We placed our order by 7:45, and did not receive our food until 9:20pm. The restaurant was obviously fairly busy, but it wasn't a large restaurant and I believe this long a wait was unacceptable.
The food was nice. I enjoyed the rice which felt authentically afghan, however the chicken korma dish was awful, watery and bland.
I normally do not write reviews for restaurants, even if I had a bad time, but I felt that after such a long wait the food should have at least been something worth waiting for.
The staff were reasonable, but don't smile at all, especially the young tall waiter who was dressed in a t-shirt.
We went as friends who hadn't seen each other for almost a year. We were never rushed and felt welcomed to take our time. The food was delicious - lamb, and came wuth a fresh crisp salad. We stayed for almost 4 hours! We will be back!
My first time trying Afghan cuisine. Good experience. Simple but well prepared offerings. Added advantage it is a BYOB, extremely rare in Manhattan.
Chicken was undercooked
The owner takes care of you with pride and it's well deserved. Delicious food. This was a return visit (that speaks for itself) and we'll return again.
Plenty of options for me -not a meat eater at all. Menu has many delicious savory pastries filled wirh spinach, cheeses and sauteèd herbs. Many more than I expected. Tasty looking substantial menu not only "kebabs"!!
The food at Afghan Kebab house is amazing. I have been going there for over 10 years. Even after moving to Pennsylvania a few years ago, I regularly make the trip back to Manhattan just to eat there. Get the Combo platter. The white sauce is amazing. You won't be disappointed.
Went here for mother’s day. It’s a small but nice restaurant. Food and service was great. Quiet area.
Was our first time and we really enjoyed our dinner. Definitely going back
