Enjoyed a excellent three course meal during restaurant week. Limited but very nice selection of choices. All courses were excellent as was service. Our first visit and look forward to coming again.
I like Macon a lot. It’s in my neighborhood, it’s charming and it’s quiet at lunchtime. The food is quite good; those Essie’s biscuits are sinful. But it’s unforgivable not to have ripe peaches in a salad in the summertime. Plus, there was a bare sprinkling of goat cheese. Otherwise, it was a nice, filling salad for only $12 with an excellent salad dressing. I’ve tried fish there and enjoyed it. I will definitely go back. The woman in charge offered a dessert because I mentioned that the peaches weren’t ripe, so they do care about their customers.
We gave it another chance after a long absence and it came through well, perhaps because outside dining took much of the noise away from dining room. Menu, food is good, but service has been erratic in the past.
Great food! Wonderful service!
We went to try a new place during restaurant week. We will go back because the food and the service was amazing!
Lovely find in the eclectic CT avenue corridor leading up to Chevy Chase Circle. Great service and the drinks and meals were very nicely prepared. Some unsolicited advice? Whatever you do, save room for the chocolate bread pudding dessert. It alone is worth the price of admission.
The food was uninspiring. In fact, a little weird, in an effort, in my opinion, to force it to appear Southern. For example the hamburger had a layer of collard greens, tough and bitter. The french fries were nice and brown, but flaccid, as if they had been fried hours before and had gone limp. The other entree we ordered was brisket, which had been treated as if it were barbecued ribs. Baked with a layer of barbecue sauce, it was tender but odd, and the accompaniment of red cabbage did not help. This was a Sunday night, 8 pm. so perhaps the chef had gone home. They advertise that they are open till 10 pm, so we thought 8 pm was not too late for the kitchen. By 9 pm they were clearing some of the tables of their set ups.
Was not happy with the speed of service that we got. Way under staffed or lost my order.
Great service and atmosphere. Excellent food also. Will return and highly recommend!
Wine list was incredibly overpriced. Food was okay, but service was really slow and a bit random. Will not return.
Great food. Noise level was a little high.
First time at this restaurant. Food and service very good. A bit pricy for a Friday night movie night but we will be back
First time visit to celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary. The setting was nice, perfect for conversation, and servers were very pleasant and welcoming. The cocktails, biscuits, deviled eggs, and gazpacho was very good. The entrees of steak and chicken were also very well prepared. I see why this is a neighborhood gem, would recommend this restaurant to others, and would like to visit again.
Had a wonderful evening at Macon Bistro. Food was wonderful and service was great. Our server, Lara, was fabulous. She made the evening really fun and memorable. Thank you!
What a great meal at Macon Bistro & Larder! The building was so charming and the space was conducive to conversation. The food was really excellent and the concept of this family-owned restaurant resonated with me and my daughter as we dined.
The cocktails were fun (I had the Scarlet O'Hara!) and delicious. We tried the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer--delicious but I would have liked the portion to be a bit larger.
We had the salmon, brussels sprouts (oh my!) and beet salad for our main courses. All were wonderful. Of particular note were the lardons in the sprouts. DEE-LISH
We topped off a perfect meal with espresso and were brought the most delectable homemade caramels as the perfect postlude.
I appreciated the offer of the Happy Hour and Regular menus as options. Very considerate.
I can't wait to go back!
Our waiter was terrific guiding us through the menu. Lunch perfect time to go as it was quiet and food was delicious.
Food was excellent from the appetizers (deviled eggs, crispy calamari and moist/light biscuits) to the main entrees (salmon moist and seared just right, tender bbq brisket, and creamy and flavorful risotto). Dessert was fabulous- sorbets refreshing, homemade chocolate chip cookies were yummy and the coconut cake was dense and flavorful. Staff was very friendly and attentive too.
Great place for brunch! Love the chicken and waffles
Got together with friends. Waiter was terrific with our early arrival and friends later. Very professional and attentive.
Enjoyed the neighborhood feel and casual atmosphere.
Thought wines, although good selection, were a bit pricey for a neighborhood place.
Good great. Ordered many different entres. Wish they had a few more starters. Began with hush puppies. Nice presentation but a bit bland.
Will go back. Want to try a few more offerings from the menu.
Food was very good and the waitress was accommodating and amusing
Macon is such a gift to the upper Northwest, Chevy Chase community. The food is terrific. Early on, Macon had a rather limited, fixed menu. But happily they have changed. Now the menu changes, has more variety and has seasonal offerings - we are thrilled. The staff are a delight - friendly, warm, knowledgeable, professional. We are fortunate to have Macon so close.
THE CHICKEN AND SALADS WERE EXCELLENT, BUT TOOK FAR TOO LONG TO ARRIVE AT OUR TABLE.
What a great spot. The food was really good and the service was helpful and cheerful. Totally an instant favorites.
Great neighborhood family-run restaurant.
Staff very friendly and engaging with the kids. We went for brunch, food was excellent.
I would definitely go back! My friend and I went for an early dinner on Saturday, and we were disappointed to not be able to get the 3-course $35 special that is advertised on the website. The website gives hours only, not days of the week, but the waiter said it is only M-F.
I thought the service was great and the waiter was very friendly and pleasant. I opted for a salad and dessert. Both were good- my only "complaint" for which I rated the food 4 instead of 5 is that I picked the peach salad since peaches are in season, but the peach was (IMO) grocery store quality- not a nice, fresh, ripe local peach. The dessert was yummy!
They were having a couple of staffing problems the night we were there, but the great care and attention we were given made it a wonderful evening.
Great neighborhood place with limited menu. Everything tasty and fresh.
This was my fifth visit for dinner, this time a father and son night. I love this place and my college age and graduated kids are always asking me to take them there. I think this restaurant is greatly under-appreciated and attended. It’s a neighborhood gem, the food is great, the staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and attentive and the experience overall is always fun. Tonight we shared the peach salad, the lobster and grits, and the blackened salmon. Everything was fabulous. It always is.
Celebrating an anniversary. The food was delicious and the server really attentive without being overbearing. Love the ambiance there
Okay but took forever to get dessert (coconut cake) which tasted thawed and wasn’t good. Omelet and salad were good.
The restaurant is fairly new. Today brunch/lunch crowd taxes the servers’ capacity, so service was a bit slow and episodic.
The food was excellent and the ambiance and decor were very pleasing, to put it mildly.
We’ll be back.
Such nice service from Isabel
Enjoy a great brunch in their out door seating. The weather was perfect, we enjoyed the food. I highly recommend the biscuits.
My wife and I found Macon Bistro and Larder on a google search. We read the reviews and chose to venture out for dinner. We were instantly greeted and seated. Our server offered the specials and took our beverage order. The apps were amazing to see and taste. Our meal came in a very reasonable spacing so that we were not rushed. The meal was delectable. Our server, lovely tattooed funny and nice made us feel at home. I'm sorry I can't remember here name. (Laura, Larry or sumthin like that). She and my wife ganged up on me and had fun at my expense. Great time!!! We had no room for dessert but did see others enjoying theirs. YOU SHOULD GO...
Great for a quiet gathering with friends! Portions are generous. Parking in the area is easy.
Lovely wine list, great server, great location. Food unfortunately was too salty, and too rich. Brussels sprouts were far too greasy, Macon burger is a classic but this take on it is just waaay too salty, so you lose the fun combo of flavors. Mac & cheese was uninspired and dry. With a few tweaks, this place could still be fabulous.
Good place to go in the neighborhood. Food is tasty (though not on the healthiest side) and good atmosphere
All dishes tasty, well prepared & presented but portions rather small for the price. House ginger ale cocktails were great. Mathew, my server, was the best feature of the restaurant, friendly, gracious & knowledgable.
May have just been an off night, but the dishes were hit or miss and the service was off. Our last visit was much more enjoyable, but experiences like this one make you question whether to give a place another chance in such a crowded market.
We though the tables were too close together and as a result the waitress kept knocking into my chair...she was trying to be careful but it was just too tight a space.
The food was delicious.
