May have just been an off night, but the dishes were hit or miss and the service was off. Our last visit was much more enjoyable, but experiences like this one make you question whether to give a place another chance in such a crowded market.
We though the tables were too close together and as a result the waitress kept knocking into my chair...she was trying to be careful but it was just too tight a space.
The food was delicious.
Fun , great food.
Great Food and Great Service
Went for a last min birthday meal and the staff was Great! Thanks to the bartender with our own wine!
Great service, great vibe and amazing food. Great little quaint brunch spot. Hidden gem
It was terribly terribly hot! Only later did we learn the condenser was broken on the air conditioning unit. We had to ask repeatedly for water. Although it was steaming hot in the restaurant our first cocktails were not served for over an hour. We were celebrating my sons college graduation and we had 6 out of town guests who had arrived that day. What a terrible introduction to Washington DC and what an awful dining experience. Will not return.
Great across the board! Outdoor dining was very nice. Great selection of food and drinks.
Lamb shank was terrific
Great service and friendly staff that made us feel like regulars even though it was our first visit.
We love the attentive service & the elevated comfort food inspired by regional, seasonal produce.
Genuinely friendly waitstaff and food that is exactly what you'd want.
Easter Brunch. Outstanding food and service!
Great food and great atmosphere! Lovely bar and the service was fabulous!
Great service and seasonal menu.
Our server was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was excellent!
Delicious food. Thoughtful service. It can be loud at night but lunch is quiet.
Food is always good and service very attentive and friendly
Excellent food and ambiance. Definitely recommend to a friend.
We moved to the neighborhood last year and thought Macon was a brand new restaurant, and when we walked in for dinner last weekend we were shocked to find out they have been open 5 years. The place still looks and feels brand new. It's very clean and modern with a bit of a southern vibe. We started at the bar and the bartender, David, was quick to get us menus and drinks as well as being easy to talk to about anything (a good quality in any bartender). We had an excellent cocktail hour before moving to our table for dinner. They seated us in the front window, which was lovely. Service was quick and attentive without being bothersome. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made fantastic recommendations. The meal was upscale southern and certainly fit the bill - delicious from start to finish. All the appetizers were particularly tasty - don't miss the crab hush puppies!
Macon is a lovely neighborhood gem. The brunch food was very tasty. We both had the eggs and grits. The biscuits were delightfully light with the honey butter. The space is cozy, but not cramped. The noise level does sometimes ramp up, but not intolerably. Recommend highly!
Classy place with friendly and knowledgeable stuff. Food is very tasty. Bacon is delicious. Coffee is good.
wonderful patio, attentive service, nice addition to the neighborhood. great desserts & drinks.
Great spot. Attention to detail. Excellent wait staff. 6-8 visits over past year.
I was there for lunch. They had a veru limited menu. Service was
good. Very few customers, so my rating of quiet was not actually
accurate. Would not recommend for lunch.
Great food and service.
Very tasty. Good food and good service. Great neighborhood place.
Lovely spot to enjoy a friend without being rushed through dinner.
Excellent waitress who even knew some sign language for our deaf friend.
It's all good, no, great.
This is our go-to place for excellent, innovative food. Adore the lobster grits, cheese grits, shrimp grits, steak, fish, okra okra okra, biscuits biscuits biscuits. Coconut cake is a Southern thing. Reminds me of Grandma.
It was really nice sitting outdoors. Our waitress was super nice. And people near us had dogs with them which was an unexpected and fun add to the evening.
I’ve had mixed experiences here before and wanted to give it one last try because generally the menu is interesting and the food is good. We were seated in the back room which was FREEZING and while we were given water right away by the hostess, we sat for 10 minutes with no sign of our waiter, so we left. Not acceptable in my opinion. It’s too bad because it’s such a charming spot and as I said the food is good, but the service needs serious work, especially in that back space.
What a disappointing expensive meal. The tables were sticky (with what I don't know) and one of the menus had smears all over it (with what I only assume is food.) Did no one think to take that menu out of circulation? The food was just ok. Nothing great for a place that bills itself as a representative of southern cuisine. The hamburger was not tasty but for the bacon and greens piled onto it. I enjoyed my mixed cocktails but that's about it. I will not go back and will not recommend this place to anyone.
Great food. Great fun. Our waiter Mathew was great!
We had a wonderful time at Macon to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Lara waited on us and made the experience wonderful! We started with lovely cocktails and the wonderful deviled eggs. Dinner was delicious and we topped it off with terrific desserts. If you go, be sure to ask for Lara’s section. She was delightful - playful, suggested things for us, gave us space to enjoy our meals, and could not have been nicer.
Truly delicious and beautiful food.
We were early diners and we felt just the slightest bit rushed as the bigger crowd was anticipated. But the servers were friendly and professional despite that and the food was incredible. The Vegetable Roti had an excellent combination of lightly braised vegs with perfect seasoning. The lamb was super. The biscuits with butter and pepper jelly were heavenly. The wine by the glass was a good value (not just a splash of wine). Energetic noise level yet we could converse easily across our table.
Our meal was delayed at each step -ordering, serving, and checking out. Also, I asked for salad dressing on the side; that request was ignored. The meal took about 45 minutes to get to our table. Ultimately, our server had to ask what we had eaten in order to give us a check. this was my second visit to Macon; the first was for dinner about a year ago. The charges were too high at that time. This second visit did not persuade me to make a third visit.
Very enjoyable. This is 3rd or 4th visit. Good location. Friendly staff.
Haven't been to Macon since it opened and it still hits the mark. We sat in the front, so can't comment on what it's like in the back room. I did pop my head in before leaving, and thought the back room was a little quieter, with more room in-between the tables.
The food is still great and the service much improved, from hostess, to bar, to table. They all worked well together and knew their stuff, so you get informed answers vs. the "that's the most popular dish..."
We had the biscuits and fried okra to start. The okra is not battered, so you can actually taste the food. The dipping sauce was great too if you want a bit more zing.
Had the fish and steak, which were both excellent, and prepared perfectly. The table next to use had the burger, which looked great too. Next time.
Had the cookies and milk for dessert, which did not disappoint. Nice and gooey cookie, just the way I like it.
All and all, great way to spend a casual evening in a fun environment.
There aren't a lot of restaurants in easy walking distance of the Avalon Theater, so we thought we would try this one. The place is small but the seating isn't tight, so it's a pleasant place. Service was very good. But the food pleasure depended a lot on what one ordered. I had the lamb shank which was quite delicious, as were the accommpanying vegetables. However, the dish was very underseasoned and I had to ask for salt and pepper. My friends had the chicken breast, which was so covered with lettuce and salad dressing that she couldn't taste the chicken. Another friend had a shrimp and grits appetizer, which she said was just okay. We split an order of really delicious biscuits. In all, the kitchen needs to do a better job here as the prices are fairly high.
Food was great. Interesting takes on some classic dishes. Service very friendly and attentive. Have always liked the ambiance here. Very welcoming. Great for a bar snack if time is limited.
