Mackie's Bar and Grill
Mackie’s is an official Green Bay Packers bar. All Packers games are shown with sound!
Went to celebrate a friend’s birthday during restaurant week. Multiple items on the special menu were not available. The service was very poor despite us being the only table in the dining room. Had to remind waitress to pick up our drink order from bar, server had very limited knowledge of menu. Food was excellent (what they had left).
Basically food was tasteless and underwhelming.
After splurging on the filet mignon we were so disappointed. Caesar salad also bland.
Good food and location. Great service at the bar, not quite the same in restaurant.
First off, it's a Green Bay Packer bar, which was great to see in the area! My wife and I had their dry-aged burger and it was okay, in my opinion. Thankfully it was half off on Monday's as full price would have warranted a lower rating. Opinions are subjective but to me, it wasn't as flavorful as I would have hoped and smaller than I expected for the price. Make sure to catch the happy hour as it definitely helps with the check. Their Mackie's Red Ale was just a Leinenkugel, at leas that's what I had overheard the waitress telling the table next to me. Kinda disappointed they didn't brew there own. Atmosphere was great however if you're seated near the front door, cigarette smoke tends to make its way in and detracts from the experience for sure. Service was good and accommodating, never had to wait for anything and everyone there was very attentive. All in all a good spot for beer, sports, and hanging out!
Went for a dinner meal with family from out of town-- burgers were delicious, Monday night 1/2 price special was pleasant surprise-- nothing fancy, which was perfect, and well suited to just grab some good food and drinks and do some catching up-- would go again.
Just a bar with food. Nothing spectacular. Limited choices on food and drinks. Great service. Appearance of the place was typical of a bar.
Based on its claim to be a good steak house we ordered steak. The sirloin and hanger steak. Neither one was edible. I am not kidding.
Food was very good. Maybe not surprising but it felt like more of a bar than a restaurant; few diners on a Tuesday night. Server didn’t check on us after the arrived so no drink refills. Great for a casual meal, but wouldn’t suggest to celebrate anything special.
Just ok restaurant
Overall experience was very good. The only problem was the ladies bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Tried to use it right when we got there. We mentioned this to a server and when we left it still had not been taken care of.
Went there for my birthday as noted on our reservation. No acknowledgement of the occasion. Service was very slow to the point that I wasn’t sure who our sever was as different people stopped by. Our order went in shortly after the table next to us. When they received their food the staff was all apologetic about the wait and offered a free desert. Ours came out later without a word. Food was just okay, probably won’t t be back as there are many other choices in the area.
It struggle to decide if it’s a bar/saloon/dive or a steakhouse. The food was average at best. If you’re coming here for a steak dinner, you’ll have better luck somewhere else. The place was empty when we were there, and that was our first indicator.
I had a steak which wasn’t too terrible but my lobster bisque wasn’t warm at all and neither was my watered down mashed potatoes.
Went for brunch and we were disappointed with the quality of the food. There weren’t many people in there and now we know why.
Fabulous dinner. Excellently prepared and delicious. Very good service.
Service was great. We were able to visit with relatives who were in tow. And never felt rushed. Food was excellent.
We had been given a certificate to Mackey’s as a wedding gift. Not knowing what to expect we headed in to enjoy the free meal. I made reservations online and we were promptly taken care of at the door. Our server was excellent—he clearly had experience likely in a higher-end setting but was very good at being the perfect amount of pleasant and competent for this restaurant. And that’s not a slam, we expected less from a “sports bar” but were pleased that it was a solid notch better. The steaks were fantastic, perfectly prepared, and I will 100% be back for some of the gnocchi side dish!!
They are new and having some growing pains (Friday night at 630 they were already out of certain dishes and ingredients for others). But the food we ate was delicious. Some things incredibly so. the management is lovely and I will be back. Looking forward to watching Mackies blossom into a popular local eatery with more people in the dining room than the bar. Although I loved having the dining room just for my group. I never write reviews but this is going to be a winner of a restaurant. Big favorites were the mixed olives -which were in a marinade that was amazing. Wings of various types, the 12 oz hanger steak for my husband and the 6 oz for my son. Salads and the key lime pot. And the gorgeous crab cake sandwitch. Yum.
We chose this restaurant from reviewing Yelp and found it to be just as described. The good was good and the service was fine. It is rather small and nondescript as atmosphere goes but a good value. Would return again.
The food was really good, and the staff was friendly and accommodating for our business lunch!
The service was good, the ft restaurant was nice and cozy and the food was delish!
I came in for lunch on Valentine's Day, and was seated promptly in the dining room. The staff were very professional, prompt, courteous, and attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the dry-aged burger (medium rare) with fries - it came out in a timely manor, and let me tell you that it was probably the best burger that I've ever had. The meat is so tasty and it was cooked to perfection, served in a brioche bun and comes with aged cheddar and sautéed mushrooms. DELISH! Also of note, the fries are boardwalk style and a perfect match to the burger. I left feeling full and satisfied after a great dining experience. Would definitely recommend, and I'll definitely be back.
Smallish Salad with overcooked grilled chicken;
Burger still tops
We have been to Mackie’s many times and have always enjoyed it - great American food with a few fun twists on the menu. We ended up here during restaurant week and honestly it was a little disappointing. Food took well over an hour getting out and one person in our group didn’t get the restaurant week menu, so he ended up waiting a very long time for a steak sandwich (however it did look quite delicious). Steak on the restaurant week menu was well seasoned, but pretty tough (even at medium temperature) - have gotten a great steak here several times before, so it may have just been the cut. The key lime pie was a hit as always. We will be back, but probably just for the regular menu when they are less slammed.
Waited for almost 30 minutes after being seated and no one stopped by. Understand it was a busy night but don’t book a reservation if you can’t even check in on a table to let them know you’re busy. To add insult to injury, the surrounding tables were helped multiple times.
Really enjoyed the House Tempranillo. Had a great filet and gnocchi. BF had the sirloin. Also good, but not as good as the filet. Both cooked exactly how I liked. His mashed potatoes were great too. Our waiter was a nice guy.
Service was terrible. They forgot our drink orders and messed up our food orders. Some of our parties food came out and the others had to wait 30 minutes. I would not come here again.
My companion and I got the shrimp and bacon appetizer, the mozzarella and tomato salad, filet mignon, rib eye, and red and white sangrias.
Everything was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly.
Flies everywhere, made the experience unpleasant.
Terrible. High end Steak House prices, low end Steak House quality and service.
The bacon was very over cooked on the wedge salad. The steak was prepared very raw just the way I ordered it!
Color me unimpressed. The service was good but the food was just ok. My partner order the steak, and was pleased, but my meal was not as good. The Caesar salad had way too much garlic (and I'm a garlic lover!) I ordered the salmon with pecan crust and herb butter. When it came out, the herb butter was a frozen lump on top of the salmon, so never really melted. The server offered to take it take it back to the kitchen and put it in the oven for a few minutes. But, since i had ordered the salmon cooked medium and it came out well done, I opted to not bother with that because I didn't want the fish to dry out. The pecans were almost not noticed because there was just a sprinkling on the crust. The fish tasted good, but I was little let down by the entire presentation. Additionally, the dish came out with both mashed potatoes and rice. Two starch sides? Overall, it wasn't awful, but I probably won't be back.
Nice place and lots of options
We had a wonderful dinner there Sunday night. A very warm, friendly place with great food and wine. The owner was very nice, local to Alexandria. The server was great. We had steaks, they were great!
They have a great reputation, but something is not right at Mackies. Appetizers were mundane at best... Shrimp, hummus. My salad came out with mold covered, and I mean COVERED tomatos. They took the steak off my bill. Still ate the steak, I know, gross, and spent the night puking. Our service was decent. Has the restaurant changed ownership recently? All of my colleagues thought the meal was average, at best. Maybe the bar is great but the restaurant isn't? Be carefull at Mackies restaurant.
Came for brunch with the parents and some friends and both had a great time, everyone was satisfied with their meal and had good brunch cocktails for a good price! Would definitely recommend for brunch.
Wonderful food and service. If you are looking for a good steak in Old Town, this is the place.
The restaurant was closed upon our arrival. I did not receive any notifications regarding this issue. We dined at another restaurant instead.
Excellent food and service! Our waitress was so attentive; not overly present, but kept our water glasses full and cleared dishes, but was not annoying or . She offered good recommendations and the steaks were perfect!
Mother’s Day brunch - 1:00 pm - server was fine but over one hour for our food to come out. Kitchen must have been understaffed. When we left a kitchen staff member practically ran my wife over to get out of the place!
Restaurant is small but very nice. Good if you're on a date. The waiter we had was very friendly and attentive. The food was just OK to bad. We ordered 2 lobster bisque which cost $11/each. It was very runny and had a bitter after taste. Of course we couldn't finish it because it was that bad. For the main course we went with their award winning burger ( the burger was tasty but we ordered medium and it came out rare. Not medium rare but rare and because of it we couldn't finish our burger.) The other dish was the dry aged NY strip which was ok since it wasn't juicy at all ( medium was ordered but it came out a little more medium +) I had better steaks for that price $49. I don't think i'll be coming back or recommend anyone to go at this time.
