Mackie's Bar and Grill
Mackie’s is an official Green Bay Packers bar. All Packers games are shown with sound!
They are new and having some growing pains (Friday night at 630 they were already out of certain dishes and ingredients for others). But the food we ate was delicious. Some things incredibly so. the management is lovely and I will be back. Looking forward to watching Mackies blossom into a popular local eatery with more people in the dining room than the bar. Although I loved having the dining room just for my group. I never write reviews but this is going to be a winner of a restaurant. Big favorites were the mixed olives -which were in a marinade that was amazing. Wings of various types, the 12 oz hanger steak for my husband and the 6 oz for my son. Salads and the key lime pot. And the gorgeous crab cake sandwitch. Yum.
We chose this restaurant from reviewing Yelp and found it to be just as described. The good was good and the service was fine. It is rather small and nondescript as atmosphere goes but a good value. Would return again.
The food was really good, and the staff was friendly and accommodating for our business lunch!
The service was good, the ft restaurant was nice and cozy and the food was delish!
I came in for lunch on Valentine's Day, and was seated promptly in the dining room. The staff were very professional, prompt, courteous, and attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the dry-aged burger (medium rare) with fries - it came out in a timely manor, and let me tell you that it was probably the best burger that I've ever had. The meat is so tasty and it was cooked to perfection, served in a brioche bun and comes with aged cheddar and sautéed mushrooms. DELISH! Also of note, the fries are boardwalk style and a perfect match to the burger. I left feeling full and satisfied after a great dining experience. Would definitely recommend, and I'll definitely be back.
Smallish Salad with overcooked grilled chicken;
Burger still tops
We have been to Mackie’s many times and have always enjoyed it - great American food with a few fun twists on the menu. We ended up here during restaurant week and honestly it was a little disappointing. Food took well over an hour getting out and one person in our group didn’t get the restaurant week menu, so he ended up waiting a very long time for a steak sandwich (however it did look quite delicious). Steak on the restaurant week menu was well seasoned, but pretty tough (even at medium temperature) - have gotten a great steak here several times before, so it may have just been the cut. The key lime pie was a hit as always. We will be back, but probably just for the regular menu when they are less slammed.
Waited for almost 30 minutes after being seated and no one stopped by. Understand it was a busy night but don’t book a reservation if you can’t even check in on a table to let them know you’re busy. To add insult to injury, the surrounding tables were helped multiple times.
Really enjoyed the House Tempranillo. Had a great filet and gnocchi. BF had the sirloin. Also good, but not as good as the filet. Both cooked exactly how I liked. His mashed potatoes were great too. Our waiter was a nice guy.
Service was terrible. They forgot our drink orders and messed up our food orders. Some of our parties food came out and the others had to wait 30 minutes. I would not come here again.
My companion and I got the shrimp and bacon appetizer, the mozzarella and tomato salad, filet mignon, rib eye, and red and white sangrias.
Everything was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly.
Flies everywhere, made the experience unpleasant.
Terrible. High end Steak House prices, low end Steak House quality and service.
The bacon was very over cooked on the wedge salad. The steak was prepared very raw just the way I ordered it!
Color me unimpressed. The service was good but the food was just ok. My partner order the steak, and was pleased, but my meal was not as good. The Caesar salad had way too much garlic (and I'm a garlic lover!) I ordered the salmon with pecan crust and herb butter. When it came out, the herb butter was a frozen lump on top of the salmon, so never really melted. The server offered to take it take it back to the kitchen and put it in the oven for a few minutes. But, since i had ordered the salmon cooked medium and it came out well done, I opted to not bother with that because I didn't want the fish to dry out. The pecans were almost not noticed because there was just a sprinkling on the crust. The fish tasted good, but I was little let down by the entire presentation. Additionally, the dish came out with both mashed potatoes and rice. Two starch sides? Overall, it wasn't awful, but I probably won't be back.
Nice place and lots of options
We had a wonderful dinner there Sunday night. A very warm, friendly place with great food and wine. The owner was very nice, local to Alexandria. The server was great. We had steaks, they were great!
They have a great reputation, but something is not right at Mackies. Appetizers were mundane at best... Shrimp, hummus. My salad came out with mold covered, and I mean COVERED tomatos. They took the steak off my bill. Still ate the steak, I know, gross, and spent the night puking. Our service was decent. Has the restaurant changed ownership recently? All of my colleagues thought the meal was average, at best. Maybe the bar is great but the restaurant isn't? Be carefull at Mackies restaurant.
Came for brunch with the parents and some friends and both had a great time, everyone was satisfied with their meal and had good brunch cocktails for a good price! Would definitely recommend for brunch.
Wonderful food and service. If you are looking for a good steak in Old Town, this is the place.
The restaurant was closed upon our arrival. I did not receive any notifications regarding this issue. We dined at another restaurant instead.
Excellent food and service! Our waitress was so attentive; not overly present, but kept our water glasses full and cleared dishes, but was not annoying or . She offered good recommendations and the steaks were perfect!
Mother’s Day brunch - 1:00 pm - server was fine but over one hour for our food to come out. Kitchen must have been understaffed. When we left a kitchen staff member practically ran my wife over to get out of the place!
Restaurant is small but very nice. Good if you're on a date. The waiter we had was very friendly and attentive. The food was just OK to bad. We ordered 2 lobster bisque which cost $11/each. It was very runny and had a bitter after taste. Of course we couldn't finish it because it was that bad. For the main course we went with their award winning burger ( the burger was tasty but we ordered medium and it came out rare. Not medium rare but rare and because of it we couldn't finish our burger.) The other dish was the dry aged NY strip which was ok since it wasn't juicy at all ( medium was ordered but it came out a little more medium +) I had better steaks for that price $49. I don't think i'll be coming back or recommend anyone to go at this time.
I asked about a particular wine from Napa they did not have it but offered a phenomenal replacement. They took care of us and it was a fantastic meal.
Came up on app as good for burgers and that is all we wanted. Not much on the outside. Not much on the inside. Bar area is separated from dinning area from by glass door. Kitchen area is separated from dinning area by plastic curtain. No one there on a Wednesday night. Told us they won recent local contest for burgers. Just want we wanted. However, medium there is apparently red all the way from first bite. I always thought it was medium rare. But, I ate it. Not bad. Just not the 4 star I expected from the app. Saving grace: waiter was great and other staff friendly.
We were a little put off by the sports bar atmosphere when you walk in, but once in the back actual restaurant room were fine. Food was surprisingly good - 2 different shrimp pasta dishes and the hanger steak were pronounced delish. Service very attentive. We will return!
Very nice and cozy for our Valentine's date as my boyfriend lives in Florida and we try to visit monthly to each other's destination. Our steaks were wonderful and our waiter was very service-oriented and down-to-earth at the same time.
Fantastic service and food.
I chose this restaurant based on reviews and recommendations. The drinks, the desert and the shrimp were excellent. The main courses were awful. The Salmon was were overly salty, the steaks had very little taste and were unevenly cooked. Thank goodness for our appetizers, drinks and desert. It seems that Mackies is more of a BAR.
The steak was so tough you could barely cut with a knife. The Caesar Salad needs to be significantly updated, very bland. We had high hopes since the restaurant was recommended but unfortunately the food was fair at best.
The food was expensive. The kitchen staff was loud - talking and laughing. Cooks and dishwashers walked back and forth through the dining room throughout dinner. After dinner, we found the owner/manager to complain, he could not be bothered to even get up off his chair at the bar. Save your money and have a better experience somewhere that does care.
Excellent service by attentive and helpful wait staff. Small metered parking lot across the street. Very cozy atmosphere at first, but other patrons wanted the door closed that separated the dining room from the bar because of crowd noise. Completely changed the vibe and the dining room became cold. Disappointed in the main course for the price. Steak was tough as leather. It could have been an off night due to the cold weather. Appetizer (sushi), sides and desert were excellent.
We went to celebrate a Christmas birthday, so glad they were open. The bar was busy but the dining room was quiet. We enjoyed a great meal with good service.
The food and service were excellent. The pacing was not rushed.
Good pick if you’re looking for a steakhouse in Alexandria. Casual place to get a great steak but a bit pricey for the overall experience.
The food was delicious! Our table ordered 3 filet mignons which came cooked to order and we had one order of the shrimp scampi. For dessert, we had key lime pie. We will definitely return and it was a perfect location if you plan on going to the MGM hotel.
Our server Stephen made lunch at Mackie's very special. The hamburger and daily special tuna sandwich were delicious. Side salad and/or fries were fresh and tasty. I'll be back soon!
just a nice quiet, well prepared dinner. The highlight was our waitress, Honey.
I had a 6pm reservation for a friend and I to meet during restaurant week. We were seated immediately. The menu choices available to us was quite large. Our server was fantastic and the food was delicious. This was our first time dining here and we'll definitely return again!
