Italian cuisine from the Puglia region of Italy, Steaks & Chops. Macello, a rustic Italian restaurant and market/deli located in the Warehouse District (West Loop), offers an airy dining room with wood beams, exposed brick, and two wood-burning ovens. The menu features plenty of thin crust pizza; linguine with mixed seafood in a spicy cherry tomato sauce. The butcher shop inspired market located in the front of Macello stocks cured meats, cheese and food from the Puglia region- the "boot heel" of Italy. Macello appropriately translates to "slaughterhouse"-- the building housed a slaughterhouse in the 1920s.

Went with kids got an early dinner. Great food and got it within an hour. Dinner was a success!
The most amazing meal I’ve had lately— we celebrated my birthday and it could not be more perfect. The staff was amazing and made sure we were properly celebrated— the food was incredible and literally not one complaint. We lov Macello!!!!
The food was delicious! That’s the point right?
Lovely food. A little rushed service but everyone was wonderful!
My huband and I stopped in prior to a City Winery concert. We had a great scallop appetizer. We also has the Marcelo pizza...sausage was delicious. Wonderful wine selection at fair prices. We would return.
Very positive overall experience while dining at Macello! Good food and atmosphere at reasonable prices!
A nice Italian restaurant if you want made from scratch taste but nothing too fancy. But you can always go fancy if you want. Tvs on eating dinner is always a deterrent for me.
We were exceptionally pleased with the service, food, and ambiance. You must try this joint when you’re in the area. Hands down one of the best meals ever had. Go and enjoy without a doubt.
Amazing place to be for any occasion, the feeling is always welcoming and generous.. food ,staff is always perfect. That’s why we keep going back after all these years .
This spot is an amazing hidden gem. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon it and I’m so glad we did. Food and service were amazing! We ordered the truffle pasta and a pizza and both were superb! They did half price bottles of wine and live music on Wednesday— such a great treat! Everything about it was authentic Italian. Will be making this a regular spot!
A real nice establishment with excellent food! Went for a business lunch and was impressed.
The food wasn't great - just average. And the service was very poor - we didn't receive great recommendations and rarely saw our waiter.
Great food. Beautifully decorated. Will definitely be going back.
Mother’s birthday, though the restaurant seems to have forgotten that note from the reservation. Service was pretty good and the food was very good. The table was a bit small for three people, but the crew did their best to keep plates moving so it didn’t get too unwieldy.
Macello's has become my new most favorite resto - i've travelled the world and this place is damn good. I just had first date with an italian girl and she loved it, delicioso! i've been there several times and wednesday nights they have amazing musicians...why go anywhere else...really....bravo, Macello!
It was okay, but I expected better food for the price.
This was our first time at Macello and let me tell you "we'll be back". The food was outstanding. We had a shrimp with spinach appetizer that was outstanding. Our service by Gustavo was phenomenal. He made us feel like a "regular". It's a bonus that there is free street parking. Highly recommend!
The food was excellent. The place was not busy when we arrived but became busy. We wanted to enjoy desert but the waiter was over taxed with too many tables and we had a concert to attend. I will try again but arrive with more than 1 hour and 15 minutes to dine. He waiter was cordial and entertaining just too busy for one guy.
Lovely meal and great service! Will be back.
The homemade pastas are outstanding. Fabulous selection of Italian wines.
from the time you walk into this wonderful restaurant you can a smile on your face. the decor is charming and casual, the staff couldn't be any more polite, helpful, or knowledgeable. the quality of all of our dishes, from appetizers to other small plates to entre's was exceptional. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food was delicious and our server was great. The table bussers were a bit aggressive and took my plate just as I was taking the last bite. I strongly dislike being rushed at any meal, but especially an Italian place. The music was really loud inside, it was hard to hear our server over the conversations, kitchen noise, and music. Overall good experience and I would go back, but maybe sit on the patio.
Good and service were both awesome! A little pricey but worth it
Pre-concert dinner for a group. We arrived early, but server somewhat distracted which pushed us timewise. Food and drinks were good, but pricey. Would recommend based on United Center proximity only.
It’s a gem. Love going there anytime we go to the United Center
Great food. I usually get the clam and mussels for an appetizer which are super, but I tried the clams in Parmesan which were sinful. The sea bass was outstanding and the filet is great. One of the best Italian restaurants in Chicago.
The service and the food were superb. Have lived in Chicago for twenty years and missed this restaurant.
Will not miss it again during the next twenty.
Outstanding food! Fanatic service! I’ll return every chance I get.
Good food!! Wonderful place
We were a group of 10 friends. The food was fabulous. The service was attentive and all around excellent. We all want to go back and bring friends and family.
Great spot for Italian! Great menu with options for all including gluten-free pasta upon request. Wood burning oven for pizzas and oven dishes. My wife had the Brasciole and I the seafood risotto. Both were excellent. The service is friendly and attentive. Good wine list too. We will return!
I felt as though the server was very irritated and did not like my table. He never said his name so couldn’t tell you who he was, but he wasn’t around much. I asked for recommendations and was not given any. It was just an awful experience for my first time, as well as my family’s. He also took my nieces food away before she was finished, didn’t ask if she was, and she was upset at this. He left the plate he took on the counter next to our table and she stared at it the whole time through. I really liked the pasta, but I do not wish to be served like that again so I won’t be returning.
If you are looking for delicious food, tasty wine, friendly service, and an enjoyable dining experience, Macello is for you!
We eat at Macello 3-4 times per month. There are so many choices on the menu, and they are all wonderful. If you have any dietary preferences, the chef is always happy to accommodate you. The wines are reasonably priced everyday, but have half-priced options on Wednesdays. There are also some happy hour days that have half-priced appetizers. Yum!
The service is so attentive that you are made to feel very special and appreciated. One of the servers, Gustavo, has a laugh that fills the room with joy. Each time we dine, we feel like we are visiting old friends.
Macello is a spectacular restaurant for an intimate dinner, casual evening with friends, or a family celebration!
Fun place for dinner. Is a bit loud. Pretty and creative decor.
Never have had a bad meal or bad service! Love this place
The pasta was authentic, the staff was pleasant and didn’t suffocate us (even though we were early for dinner). Walking into the restaurant and seeing the meat counter made it feel even more authentic. When I wasn’t sure how to pronounce something on the menu the waiter was kind and helpful! I’d highly recommend this place!
Great Italian dishes of high fresh quality and very tasty. Fun ambiance makes it the ideal place to come with a group of friends. Outstanding wine list.
It was an amazing experience like always and kid friendly during our lunch meet up with friends.
We enjoyed a variety of dishes from seafood to pasta and meat. They were all delicious! And the service was very attentive and spot on. Wine selection and cocktails also very good. Would highly recommend!
Joe runs a great ship of state here! And the live entertainment on Wednesday is one of his great ideas!
