**Macello was recently rated #2 "BEST PIZZA" in Chicago by Chicago Magazine (November 2015)**

Italian cuisine from the Puglia region of Italy, Steaks & Chops. Macello, a rustic Italian restaurant and market/deli located in the Warehouse District (West Loop), offers an airy dining room with wood beams, exposed brick, and two wood-burning ovens. The menu features plenty of thin crust pizza; linguine with mixed seafood in a spicy cherry tomato sauce. The butcher shop inspired market located in the front of Macello stocks cured meats, cheese and food from the Puglia region- the "boot heel" of Italy. Macello appropriately translates to "slaughterhouse"-- the building housed a slaughterhouse in the 1920s.

Another couple and myself were here on an early Sunday evening. It was relatively quiet probably because there wasn't a hockey game. One person had the Italian wedding soup, the
other two of us had the spinach salad and we all shared a pizza. We all shared the Tiramisu to finish. The others had beer and I had a glass of wine. They have a good list for wines by the glass and the waiter offered me tastes of the two wines I was interested in and wasn't familiar with. That always gets a lot of points with me. We all enjoyed the food, the service and the ambience and this is a go-to place for us to get together and catch up. We can be equally casual as we were on this occasion or have a party as we did for two of our birthdays.

Great place to go before a hawks game, if your in a rush they get you in and out without affecting the quality of food.

I went on Valentine's Day with this girl I've been seeing and we had a wonderful time. The ambiance, service, and especially the food were spectacular. Absolutely will be coming back.

Had a very disappointing Valentine's Day dinner there. Boyfriend got there early and sat for about 15 minutes before he waved over the server to take a drink order. The stuffed artichokes were...I don't know what they were. They were artichoke bottoms stuffed with cheese and served in hot water. Very unappetizing and they didn't taste very good at all. The braciole with pasta was very under seasoned. Pizza was okay, however in my opinion the crust was way too thin. Weird italian radio on the speakers, including jarring advertisements. Won't be returning.

Very authentic food and wines outside Puglia (Italy). Great lamb, pastas, salad and wines. Always a fantastic experience with friendly, professional staff. A must for true Italian food.

Excellent meal tonight. Restaurant week offerings were delicious and quite a good bargain. Everything was good, the salad, the risotto, the lamb chops and dessert. Excellent value tonight. Pizza and the griglia mista were excellent too.

We chose Macello because of its proximity to Revel Fulton Market, where we were headed for a charity event. Macello is a great place to go for really delicious Italian food, especially the pizza. We went with my parents who have visited Italy many times, and they said it was the best pizza they had eaten in a long time.

Atmosphere, service, & food is exceptional. The food cooked in the wood oven is just so good. The pizza is off the chart.

If it’s not on the menu, ask the waiter to zuppa di pesce. The chef always complies and it is a phenomenal dish. I’ve been there on multiple occasions and never been disappointed.

I keep going back for the wood oven grilled sea bass. I have travelled extensively and have never found a sea bass prepared so well. It is a generous piece of well-seasoned fish that from the moment your fork touches it you know it is going to be tender and juicy. I am also very choosy about marinara sauces and recently tried a pasta that I am still raving about. Add to that, the warmth and convivial feel that the wood oven provides for the room and you have a great winter dining spot.

We went for restaurant week and had a reservation, took over 30 minutes to get a table.
The Hostess said that they were overbooked. Others waiting seemed to have to go back up to her to check in on their tables as she would forget about them (her words).
Food was good, service was great.

Outstanding ambiance. Impressive wine selection. Easy parking. Food overall is on par with most other Italian restaurants in the city. With the exception of their wood fire pizza/calzone/panzarotti, which are outstanding, nothing too special. Seafood was good, but slightly over done. Lacked depth of flavor.
