**Macello was recently rated #2 "BEST PIZZA" in Chicago by Chicago Magazine (November 2015)**
Italian cuisine from the Puglia region of Italy, Steaks & Chops. Macello, a rustic Italian restaurant and market/deli located in the Warehouse District (West Loop), offers an airy dining room with wood beams, exposed brick, and two wood-burning ovens. The menu features plenty of thin crust pizza; linguine with mixed seafood in a spicy cherry tomato sauce. The butcher shop inspired market located in the front of Macello stocks cured meats, cheese and food from the Puglia region- the "boot heel" of Italy. Macello appropriately translates to "slaughterhouse"-- the building housed a slaughterhouse in the 1920s.

Macello Ratings and Reviews
Our evening at Macello was wonderful. While our table reservation was delayed a bit, the Macello staff was warm and accommodating, going so far as to offer us a round of drinks and complimentary Margherita pizza while waiting. The manager and bartender were both conversational and friendly, and made our wait quite enjoyable. I personally recommend The Pub and the Truffle Lasagna (not sure what it’s actually called). The ambience was fabulous, loved the inviting, family vibe. Will definitely return.
We met friends here after Hawks game. Game went into overtime so some arrived late. They graciously held the kitchen open for us. We were their last customers and we never felt rushed. Service was great and the food .... terrific. We ordered a salmon, filet, chicken, pasta and apps to share. Everyone in group kept talking what a find this place was. Good ambiance, good food and great service. Will keep coming back. Great place to come before or after any event at the United Center. Short Uber ride over to UC.
Wonderful. They feature food from the Puglia region in Italy. Having just returned from my vacation in Bari, I needed a Pugliese food fix. First of all, the crunchy bread with olive oil and fresh parmesan cheese was the best I've had in Chicago. The stuffed calamari was as good as my mother's, they seasoned the stuffing with fresh herbs. and the calamari was tender and not rubbery. And, the lamb casserole was delicious. Lamb chops on a bed of rice, potatoes and olives EXACTLY like my mother's. The lamb was succulent. I couldn't pass up the dessert ... light and fluffy tiramisu.
Food was tasty & delicious . I had the special which was Halibut and I think it was the best fish I ever had. It came with asparagus which was cooked perfectly. I also had a Moscow mule which was made perfect! We were going to the Blackhawks game and didn't have a ton of time but really enjoyed the experience ! I'd like to dine here again but at a slower pace so I can really enjoy all the flavors. Very impressed ! Mmmm!!
Good place to go before United Center. Very festive! Pizza tasty but a bit soggy :( The roasted chicken was wonderful and the braciole was very good as well. The pasta dish with the swiss chard was disappointing in that the red sauce was very bland. So, mixed feelings about Macello. Perhaps we'll give it another try.
This is my third visit to Macello. I first came here for restaurant week and loved it. I just moved to Chicago so I know I will be here regularly. This time I took 3 friends visiting from Michigan and they really enjoyed the food and ambience. Service was excellent! 2 of us had the lamb chop casserole and it was amazing. 4 double cut lamb chops on a bed of perfect risotto and baked in a wood oven YUM. Other guests had the salmon special of the day and the oven roasted 1/2 chicken and both pronounced their meals excellent. This is a great little restaurant, the patio is very nice too. Valet parking $8.00 but there is lots of street parking available.
Really enjoyed our meals! One thing though - the servers/staff really need to learn how to not pour and serve in front of the guests face. The entire time, the servers and pouring water kept serving through people as people faced one another in conversation. The glass should be picked up from the table and pour water instead of having this huge jug right on peoples face. Also, go around the guests to serve their food, don't go across one person to get to the other end of the table - it is so rude. other than this, the food was very good - once the the staff is trained properly i think my experience would have been a 5 star.
We have been to Macello's before and have been delighted with the food and attentive service. However, service was very poor on this visit, which was on a Thursday night. Plenty of staff available but we had to flag down various people to get our waiter to notice us. Food was great though.
My family and I really enjoyed our experience here. The decor in the restaurant is very colorful and so fun (mosaics in the tile, etc.)! Our server was very attentive and provided helpful answers when asked about various dishes. We even got a free pizza with our tickets to Luzia (right around the corner). The flavor in some of the pasta dishes was not as strong as I would have liked, but overall, the food was great quality.
Great atmosphere, very authentic. 1 out of the 3 entrees was good. The pizza was undercooked and soogy. The roasted chicken very dry, but the truffle pasta was amazing. Drinks were very good. Next time I would go with specialty dishes and drinks or wine. Staff was very delightful and receptive of our dissatisfaction of our meals. Give it a try!
Overall wonderful experience!! The server was lovely and helpful in our decisions. Food, drinks, and atmosphere were all perfect for some friends to meet up for a meal. Whether it be a casual night out, a first date, or whatever else you might have in store, Macello is the place to go!!
This wasn't our first time at Macello, but I love it every time I visit. To start, we got a margherita pizza to split at the table and an order of cheese-stuffed artichoke hearts. All of them were delicious. There was some hidden basil in each bite of the pizza which made it taste so fresh. Every one of us enjoyed our entrees too. The ambiance is great - sit inside even if the weather is nice, because the interior really is something special.
