Italian cuisine from the Puglia region of Italy, Steaks & Chops. Macello, a rustic Italian restaurant and market/deli located in the Warehouse District (West Loop), offers an airy dining room with wood beams, exposed brick, and two wood-burning ovens. The menu features plenty of thin crust pizza; linguine with mixed seafood in a spicy cherry tomato sauce. The butcher shop inspired market located in the front of Macello stocks cured meats, cheese and food from the Puglia region- the "boot heel" of Italy. Macello appropriately translates to "slaughterhouse"-- the building housed a slaughterhouse in the 1920s.
**Macello was recently rated #2 "BEST PIZZA" in Chicago by Chicago Magazine (November 2015)**

Gustavo takes care of you like you are family! The food is phenomenal there from pizza to pasta dishes. The seafood is outstanding! i haven’t had a meal there that i did t love!
Fantastic food, especially seafood prepared in the wood burning oven. Pastas were all sublime. The skylights bring in sunshine and the whole room has a stunningly positive energy. Reminds of actually being in Italy for dinner.
The food was great and service was excellent!
Went to Macello on a whim and it turned out to be honestly one of the best Italian restaurants I have been to in Chicago. The portions were perfectly sized and was definitely quality over quantity. The flourless chocolate cake is a must try! The place is also quite reasonably priced. The staff were all kind.
Delicious food. Plenty to choose from on the menu. Food arrived hot. Some of the best Italian I have had. Will definitely return.
We went to celebrate our anniversay. Food was great, knowledgeable staff ( it was Alex 1st day! He did AMAZING!) And prices were good. We will definately go back.
Amazing food and service! We came here with a group of friends for a birthday dinner celebration on Saturday night and had the best waiter. He said it was his first night and he was so attentive, friendly, funny and overall great! Made our whole dining experience that much better. We will definitely be coming back!
Delicious pasta and pizza. Friendly and appropriately attentive waitstaff. Beautiful and interesting decor. While there aren’t many vegetarian options on the menu, the kitchen can make some dishes vegetarian.
Our waitress was awesome. Made great recommendations and service timing was in point.
Everything was 4 of 5. Only real disappointment were the cocktails. Old fashioned too sweet and watered down with glas full of small cubes. French 75 was actually a French martini. Otherwise everything was good.
Great food and service! Perfect for mom's birthday dinner.
nice atmosphere, great food, reasonable prices, overall great.
The entire staff was fun and inviting! Great experience overall
Absolutely amazing food and service! Loved every minute of being there!
Exceptional service. Great meal and atmosphere.
Love this restaurant. The food is always amazing and the service so friendly. My husband and I brought some friends for the first time and they said they will certainly be back.
I don't tend to write reviews. However, the food at Macello was amazing and the service impeccable. I felt transported back to Italy which was the place I last had fantastic Italian food.
Incredible food and service (thank you Gustavo)! We had the stuffed mussels, pizza pugliese, and cavatelli al forno and it was all delicious!
Had always been interested in visiting Macello since its exterior and interior décor is so interesting and lively. Food was fine but not outstanding, a bit expensive for what we received. I was not a fan of the cocktail I ordered, and the waiter was very kind to replace it for a glass of wine at no cost.
My boyfriend and I started at Gilt bar at 530 as we were restaurant hoping to hit a few spots. We had a reservation for Macello at 7. We were greeted promptly and seated. The waitress was knowledgeable of the specials however it was the atmosphere that really threw us off. Were we in an American sports bar, a Mexican restaurant with the decor, or a nice sit down Italian restaurant with the shelving units full of wine to one side? He ordered bourbon on the rocks (mind you $20 for one drink) and the first sign of poor quality was when they brought out sliced bread that was stale. I mean stale stale, as in it had been sitting out since the morning. We asked for our bill and politely excused ourselves. I’m not sure what the whole concept of this spot is supposed to tell a story of and that made the menu rather off putting. We aren’t interested in returning.
Waiter is without personality and very mechanical. Maybe a little passion will help
Always wonderful. Very quiet for our elderly guests. Thank you
Our server was amazing! He made great wine recommendations! He also put up with our loud birthday table!
We are so fortunate to have a regional Italian restaurant in our city. It seems like everything that comes out of the kitchen is perfect. We really like that they do a lot of cooking in the wood burning oven, & a second oven for the pizzas.
The knowledgeable service from Gustavo always makes our evening. We love the friendliness of the staff & the atmosphere, but the food itself is simply amazing, as it captures the true flavours of Italy!
Everything was amazing!
Great for a date, live music, great food
Great service, great food and lovely atmosphere. Good for all occasions: there's enough variety on the menu to go all out and feast, or share light options and wine for a more casual meal.
Gustavo was EXCELLENT! Food was amazing, wine was great, the only thing we wished that the temperature of the wine was a little cooler. It seemed to be on the warmer side. Everything was absolutely wonderful and we enjoyed our whole experience
I was dinning with my wife and daughter, who was visiting from Denver, We love this place. My daughter has memories of a tasty pizza and the outdoor dinning is very comfortable. The wine suggested by our server, a super Tuscan, went well with my delicious lamb chop casserole and the pastas were not smothered with sauce and very tasty. It did not disappoint
Outstanding! Our new favorite restaurant in the city!!
The food was perfect! They have a large wine selection and we went during restaurant week.
Loved absolutely everything about this place. Our meal was excellent and our service even better. The atmosphere is perfect too.
Great food, very Italian authentic, my favorite dishes are the Sea Bass and Lamb chops, nice wine selection and delicious desserts., great for dates, family or any occasion, can't wait to go back
Loved this place. The food and staff were excellent!
This was my second trip to Macello’s and both have been a great dinner. This recent trip was great - the food is always incredible and the ambiance and fun and real. And Gustavo was such a treat throughout the whole experience - such a friendly and knowledgeable boost to our evening
Excellent food and service. We will return
Very delicious and the service is always on point..I highly recommend
It was very pleasant.
Hidden gem, hence why I short on words.
Gustavo is a proper server. His table presence is a lost art. Very proper, very old world.
Our evening there was smooth as butter. Only complaint, if any & this is biased... i missed the touch of crushed red pepper. Something I would ask for on my next visit.
Nice atmosphere and food but the service/server was very rude and impolite.
