Italian cuisine from the Puglia region of Italy, Steaks & Chops. Macello, a rustic Italian restaurant and market/deli located in the Warehouse District (West Loop), offers an airy dining room with wood beams, exposed brick, and two wood-burning ovens. The menu features plenty of thin crust pizza; linguine with mixed seafood in a spicy cherry tomato sauce. The butcher shop inspired market located in the front of Macello stocks cured meats, cheese and food from the Puglia region- the "boot heel" of Italy. Macello appropriately translates to "slaughterhouse"-- the building housed a slaughterhouse in the 1920s.

Waiter is without personality and very mechanical. Maybe a little passion will help
Always wonderful. Very quiet for our elderly guests. Thank you
Our server was amazing! He made great wine recommendations! He also put up with our loud birthday table!
We are so fortunate to have a regional Italian restaurant in our city. It seems like everything that comes out of the kitchen is perfect. We really like that they do a lot of cooking in the wood burning oven, & a second oven for the pizzas.
The knowledgeable service from Gustavo always makes our evening. We love the friendliness of the staff & the atmosphere, but the food itself is simply amazing, as it captures the true flavours of Italy!
Everything was amazing!
Great service, great food and lovely atmosphere. Good for all occasions: there's enough variety on the menu to go all out and feast, or share light options and wine for a more casual meal.
Gustavo was EXCELLENT! Food was amazing, wine was great, the only thing we wished that the temperature of the wine was a little cooler. It seemed to be on the warmer side. Everything was absolutely wonderful and we enjoyed our whole experience
I was dinning with my wife and daughter, who was visiting from Denver, We love this place. My daughter has memories of a tasty pizza and the outdoor dinning is very comfortable. The wine suggested by our server, a super Tuscan, went well with my delicious lamb chop casserole and the pastas were not smothered with sauce and very tasty. It did not disappoint
Outstanding! Our new favorite restaurant in the city!!
The food was perfect! They have a large wine selection and we went during restaurant week.
Great food, very Italian authentic, my favorite dishes are the Sea Bass and Lamb chops, nice wine selection and delicious desserts., great for dates, family or any occasion, can't wait to go back
Loved this place. The food and staff were excellent!
This was my second trip to Macello’s and both have been a great dinner. This recent trip was great - the food is always incredible and the ambiance and fun and real. And Gustavo was such a treat throughout the whole experience - such a friendly and knowledgeable boost to our evening
Excellent food and service. We will return
Very delicious and the service is always on point..I highly recommend
It was very pleasant.
Hidden gem, hence why I short on words.
Gustavo is a proper server. His table presence is a lost art. Very proper, very old world.
Our evening there was smooth as butter. Only complaint, if any & this is biased... i missed the touch of crushed red pepper. Something I would ask for on my next visit.
Nice atmosphere and food but the service/server was very rude and impolite.
Cool spot. Food was really good, but we did restaurant week and it was expensive and also too much food. Seemed out of place to be more expensive then say, Capital Grille, which also offers a lot of food but at a higher quality and lower price during restaurant week. Value was certainly lower than expected. Maybe a regular meal outside of restaurant week would show better value, but that seems backwards to me.
Excellent wine and food pairings
The service was a little lackluster, but the food and ambiance was amazing! We had the pugliese, delicious drinks, split a pasta dish and the rosemary potatoes. Plus the house social dessert!
As Italian's, we struggle for good, authentic restaurants in the area. Machello is one of only a few. Great place!
The food was good but my pizza crust had an unusual flavor on parts of the bottom, as if something dripped into it that shouldn't have.
Love the Pugliese Italian food!! Great decor, exposed ovens and a comfortable atmosphere.
Grazie!!
Great friendly service food was delicious I will be back!
Overall the food was very good for Seafood, not as much for the maets
nice food and wine selection from Puglia :) everything cooked , baked in the wood fired oven
Our server and entire supporting staff were fabulous. Very delicious food items, great quality. We’ll definitely be back!
Margherita pizza was tasteless. I sent back the "thimble" of red wine that was served to me with a request for real pour. The thimble came back with a tiny topper. Don't waste your hard-earned money here.
Great meal and service. We will be back!
I started with the Octopus which was perfectly cooked. Then I had the Prosciutto and mellon appetizer which was as beautiful as it was delicious. My dinner partner had the Pork Chop Risotto which was also delicious. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu.
Since the pandemic, restaurants have had strict dining restrictions. Now that the restrictions have lifted a little bit, my husband and I decided to dine in at a restaurant that we had never been to - Macello. Our reservation was in the afternoon and was at a time where they had just opened. So, we were their first table of the day. Everything was great. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. We will definitely dine in at Macello again and will recommend to family and friends 😊
Great Food, Great Service, Unfortunately hardly anyone there, but; for a Sunday afternoon, can't say it bothered my too much. Great wine selection and overall great value. I highly recommend.
Everything was good. Nothing was great, but nothing was terrible either. Our requests and preferences were ignored, but we figured it out.
We didn't get the table we wanted. We ended up sitting at a small table pretty close to a large group. The hostess sat another couple shortly after us, at the table we wanted. It was a larger table and next to smaller groups with more distance between their chairs and what would have been our chairs. We found it odd, but we didn't let it ruin our opinion of the rest of the experience.
We had to keep reminding our server about our dietary restrictions, which is ultimately our responsibility anyway. We provided this information with the reservation. We aren't used to those restrictions not being shared with the server, but that's okay - we notified the server ourselves. The constant need to remind our server of the dietary restrictions was weird, but at least our server was friendly.
I'm not in a hurry to go there again.
Very pleasant dining experience - prompt service and delicious food.
Very good Italian food. Delicious stuffed mussels, filet a la caprese, and snapper. The cannolis and chocolate lava cake were equally delicious. Very comfortable atmosphere and the wood burning oven is a great focal point. The house made limoncello is very good too.
Great airy restaurant with a large woodburning oven in the middle. Everything is prepared to perfection especially items in the woodburning oven. Food is true to its origin Puglia. Excellent selection of Puglia wines which are exceptional and reasonably priced. We had grilliada mista, pizza and lamb caserole. Finished with mascarpone semifreddo. All excellent.
We felt welcomed, unrushed and food was delicious. Had the octopus spaghetti and rissoto. So good
Very great Valentine’s Day experience. This is becoming one of my favorite places in the city and hasn’t disappointed yet.
Pretty good restaurant we’ve been a few times. Best times to go when the patio is open in the weather permits. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back soon
Amazing food!
