This is a historic location and setting, and deserves deference for that. The prices are high, food good not great. I had the weekend prime ribeye special, which while cooked as ordered was a very fatty cut. The sautéd spinach served with it was a scant few tablespoons. My wife enjoyed her dinner-sized Wedge Salad. Service was extremely slow, despite the place being almost empty. It took three different people to answer our not-so-complicated yet specific questions about liquors available at the bar. We ordered coffee after dinner, and it took so long we canceled it before leaving.

Food was not good. Short ribs were very fatty- lots of oil. Not what was expected at all from such a prestigious venue. Service people were warm and inviting.

We have stayed at the great Thayer Hotel twice. There are three very different eating/drinking establishments. The Patton Tavern, Zulu Time Rooftop Lounge and the MacArthur Restaurant, a grand looking and attractive dining room that is the more expensive formal option. Unfortunately (and mysteriously, given general high quality of hotel) this higher priced option has been somewhat lacking on both our visits. Particularly noted is very uneven service, staff are very nice but have no sense of timing or attention, also do not offer wine lists or cocktail menus unless prodded. White wine served barely chilled while morning coffee poured lukewarm, entrees generally good but quality would have to be excellent to overcome dining context left by the service deficits (why these don't appear evident in the two 'lesser' venues is a strange management oversight). Lastly, the included breakfast buffet should be somewhat higher quality and NOT have identical items every single day in a hotel of this stature.

The MacArthur restaurant is in the wonderful traditional Thayer Hotel situated at West Point. It has a great view of the Hudson River and filled with old world charm. The food was wonderful and the staff professional and very courteous.

Both my husband and I agreed that the food was just “okay”. We were there to celebrate his birthday and there was nothing overly special at all. There was also a 200+ person wedding go on which perhaps got more of the chef’s attention, but overall we wanted to like it much more. My husband left behind his leftovers and that would never usually happen.

We enjoyed a beautiful dinner with our grandson after playing water polo. The food was excellent and the Saturday night special of prime rib was outstanding!

An unusual place that is historic and fun to go to. All out Hogwarts vibe. Rich wood etc. Chef is a CIA grad and his food reflects it. Everything seasoned properly and seasoned well with salt and butter. We had prix fix dinner which included a tasty and simpleamuse bouche, which was really an hors dourve. Appetizer course was perfectly cooked scallops and buretta. Salad course was the only thing that didn't live up to the rest of the meal. Two leaves of lettuce with cubed beets and a light citrus dressing. Entree was sea bass for us. Again everything was prepared meticulously with rich flavors. Lastly dessert was a classic creme brûlée and a deep dark chocolate cake. A real treat. We will definitely visit again.
