Macarena Tapas is a casual Spanish eatery that serves both traditional as well as innovative contemporary dishes. The restaurant has an intimate ambiance that makes it a great place for a romantic date or a relaxed dinner. Owner and Chef John Borras is particular about using high-quality ingredients to serve guests the best of Spanish flavors. Macarena Tapas also features a full-service bar.
The menu at Macarena Tapas features a wide range of both cold and hot tapas. Popular cold tapas dishes include garlic potato salad, classic Spanish marinated scallop and shrimp salad and a platter of cured Serrano ham, sausage, Manchengo cheese and olives. Some of the recommended hot tapas selections include classic Spanish-style meatballs with tomato sauce and artisan white cheese, mussels in a spicy tomato-based sauce and crab cakes topped with Asian coleslaw and paprika aioli sauce.
Wonderful food. Some interesting dishes and frequent rotation so there is something new almost every time. Good wines by the glass, especially reds. I find the food better than Meson Sabika, but price is pretty similar.
It was our 5th anniversary and our server (who I think is also an owner) brought us a plate to write on so they can put it in a shadow box and hang it on the wall. Macarena is so good at the little personal touches to show you that they care about the customers and the community. Plus, the food is great!
First time here. Every dish was better than the last. Service was exceptional. Small crowd for a Tuesday nite so noise level was fairly low.
Would highly recommend.
Food was delicious! You must try the Mango Sangria and the chorizo tapas!
Server greeted us about 15 minutes after we were seated. He left and returned back to our table for our drink order. 10 minutes later the one class of wine was delivered. Bread had still not been delivered to the table. The server was only focused on one table of four the entire night. Not sure if they were personal friends or regulars guests.
The food was ok. The Pita bread for the smoked salmon was almost burnt to a crisp, the bread for the dollop of queso de cabra (mostly tomatoes sauce) was also burned, but soggy. Not good. Montaditos De Solomillo Con Queso Manchego (steak tenderloin) was mostly fat. It feels like we were given the scraps.
Overall, the service was not good. The food is not worth the high cost. I would not recommend Macarenas Tapas.
The food and service were amazing! Definitely will be going back many more times!
Great food at reasonable price. Creative cocktails.
Amazing food and service! My favorite restaurant in the area!!!
Great food and excellent service. We will visit again.
We love this place. Found it a few years ago and continue to go back for more. Victor and his team do an amazing job. Our favorites are all gluten-free...potatoes bravas, garlic mushrooms, bacon wrapped scallops, etc. (I don't need GF myself, so I always get the goat cheese fritters...drenched in honey and balsamic...YUM).
My girls night out with my cousin was great! We had a reservation @ 4PM, the only thing I didn't like the fact that we were asked to "move" to the Bar or leave....I haven't seen my cousin for over a year and we were chatting and enjoying until we were asked to move. Other than that great food, drinks and environment.
Great food and great sangria! Friendly service! Never had a bad experience here, love it!
We had a great meal on a Friday evening. We brought our toddler and the servers were great with him. Delicious food but a little pricey. Will definitely be back!
Food was delicious. We asked for 1 item without honey due to an allergy & it came w honey. We had to send 1 item back due to being cold. Food comes out very slowly. Once you get it, it's tasty!
Macarena Tapas is Naperville's best kept secret! Delicious tapas with lots of seafood options too! I especially love the scallops wrapped in bacon and the crab cakes! They also have some vegetarian options too, such as potato salad, hummus, plantains and mac and blue cheese. Also, they offer a 30% discount on food for teachers! Love love love this place!
Very good tapas. Hole in the wall ambience. Noisy. Will go again.
I appreciate they give a discount to all area teachers. They are consistently excellent with creative tapas and amazing sangria.
This restaurant was absolutely spectacular! The service was excellent the food was exquisite, each plate we ordered had such flavor, and we continue to talk about it up to this day! We definitely are planning our next visit as soon as we possibly can. The owner, John, what is so accommodating, friendly and nice, and our server assisted one of the people in our party to all of the vegetarian options available without hesitation. Their sangria was amazing and they even had nonalcoholic sangria, which I thought had alcohol in it! How many places can you go and get and nonalcoholic great tasting drink? I highly recommend visiting there! Once you go there one time, I promise you will be a regular!! Go there and tell him Angie, The designer and Donna sent you! We had such a great, pleasurable, relaxing experience that was so needed, thank you John And your amazing team!
The food was terrific and the drinks were outstanding. The service was a little spotty. Our waiter was very friendly and we really liked him. His only shortcoming was he kept forgetting our water or our bread or little things like that. We really enjoyed our night and will definitely go back.
This is one of our favorite spots. Anytime we take friends there for the first time, they love it and say they will return. The food is great, and the chef/owner is always adding something new. The service is awesome too! If you frequent the restaurant, they treat you like family.
We love the food here!! The goat cheese croquettes are sooo good. Pork medallions also a favorite. Sangria is great too!! They offer discounts to teachers or school district employees too.
The food was fabulous, great wine selections and the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming. The owner even stopped by our table to say hello. Only weird thing is when we were sat at a table, we were given water and bread, then no one came past our table to take our order or even a drink order for almost 30 minutes. But once we got past that it was wonderful!
Very nice place, great food options, large sangria list. Nice and quiet but a bit high priced.
Great tapas in a cozy location. There were also around ten types of interesting sangrias.
With the understanding that it is a small establishment, the decor and service is great. Drinks were terrific, but the food was awesome. However, we did not enjoy our outing mostly because they do not have an enclosed entryway into the restaurant so every time customers would walk in, everyone inside would be blasted with frigid air and we were not allowed to keep our coats with us which was odd. They said it was because it makes it too difficult for the servers which I totally understand but we were the only ones in there at the time and one of our friends, with significant health issues, was absolutely miserable. I might go back for drinks and appetizers but that's about it.
Food is great! It is a fun place to go. Always a pleasure to talk to John and Victor.
Absolutely amazing restaurant. Small space, great drinks, fantastic service, and the food is always on point.
The garlic cauliflower is heavenly! Hope it's permanent! The beef skewers were extraordinarily tender & flavorful. Goat cheese fritters with balsamic glace: perfection. Our waiter was attentive without rushing us. This place never disappoints. The hardest part is trying new things when we have so many favorites. And there are always new surprises.
Always excellent food and friendly wait-staff. So happy we tried it out this past summer because now it's our go-to place for a quiet dinner with family and friends and to enjoy great tapas!
I didn't know what to expect, only been to one other tapas place in the area. was pleasantly surprised. the menu options were great. Sangria options tasty.
It was very loud and hard to hold a conversation with people at the table. The food was great and servers were more than helpful with our tables many food allergies! Thank you thank you!
Our waitress wasn't attentive. We rarely saw her. She never refilled our drinks. The food was ok, and over-priced. The pork medallions were extremely over cooked and the seafood paella wasn't good. Parts of the rice were under cooked and crunchy. It's DEFINITELY not worth the 45 minute wait.
Macarena has some of the best tapas around! I highly recommend this to any lover of tapas.
The food didn’t come out as hot as it has before
The food and service are always excellent. The menu choices are plentiful. I love the ambiance of a smaller restaurant with warm lighting. The only thing I would change are the LED bulbs over one part of the restaurant. They don’t match the overall eclectic, warm European feeling of the restaurant as a whole. That being said, it doesn’t deter us from returning!
Always amazing food. Love the cozy atmosphere. The staff are always friendly and welcoming.
We had an amazing experience at Macarena Tapas. It is a small quaint restaurant with a very friendly staff. John the owner has such a warm inviting manner, we felt welcome immediately. The food was fantastic! We tried all different varieties of tapas, from tenderloin, chicken, different types of cheeses to seafood. They were all delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Outstanding food and service. I'll be back and I've already recommended to friends. Victor was a gracious host.
