Macarena Tapas is a casual Spanish eatery that serves both traditional as well as innovative contemporary dishes. The restaurant has an intimate ambiance that makes it a great place for a romantic date or a relaxed dinner. Owner and Chef John Borras is particular about using high-quality ingredients to serve guests the best of Spanish flavors. Macarena Tapas also features a full-service bar.
The menu at Macarena Tapas features a wide range of both cold and hot tapas. Popular cold tapas dishes include garlic potato salad, classic Spanish marinated scallop and shrimp salad and a platter of cured Serrano ham, sausage, Manchengo cheese and olives. Some of the recommended hot tapas selections include classic Spanish-style meatballs with tomato sauce and artisan white cheese, mussels in a spicy tomato-based sauce and crab cakes topped with Asian coleslaw and paprika aioli sauce.

Great food and service
The food was very good but the air conditioning was not functioning properly on a warm day which made it very uncomfortable in the restaurant. Also the tables are too small to accommodate all the many small plates that are involved with tapas service. We hurried through the meal to escape the discomfort. The restaurant is small and we felt very cramped.
Love this place!
We loved this restaurant! The wait staff was amazing and the food was even better!
Amazing place, food and drinks and service are all wonderful. Will be back again
Excellent experience! Food is very tasty and reminded me of being in Spain. Dishes are larger than I expected but very good for sharing. Especially enjoyed the Garlic shrimp .
Will go back.
We LOVE Macarena- and if you're a teacher, you won't find a better meal for your hard work! (30% entire table's bill) Tried something new- empenadas pollos- DELICIOUS. Stuck with our stand by- queso de cabra- DELICIOUS. Hubby ended with a new choice- chorizo with pineapple, peppers, and onions- said he wished he'd started with it so he wasn't so full. Was heartbroken they were out of plantains, b/c that is also a delicious. Have fun eating here!!
Pretty pricey. Food taste ok. But very friendly owner, courteous, great service. I had wrong item in bill but they corrected immediately. Spicey shrimp, garlic shrimps, chicken skewers, tilapia, flan, churro with chocolate sauce, and mango mousse with two drinks was all that I ordered.
It was excellent as usual! The food& drinks are always top notch quality. Love this place!
Great food! Loved the watermelon jalapeño margarita. Wait staff was nice and attentive. Never a bad dish here!
This restaurant NEVER disappoints. The owners and staff are super friendly and really provide some insight on the menu. The food is AWESOME!
Fun place to relax while dining. Excellent wine list that allows you to explore Spain and the world. Appreciated the r commendations of white from Tempranillo and the Penta red from Castilla. Food was extremely well prepared and pace was relaxed and friendly. Not much more I could ask for. Solid Spanish foodie experience. Viva Espana!
The owners are personable, food great and the environment is perfect for a nice date night!
The food is amazing!!! Everything we ordered was the best thing I’ve ever tasted. Absolutely incredible. I wish the location was better and had some better outdoor seating but the inside atmosphere was great and the food makes it all worthwhile!!!
This place is always great! Plenty of variety on the menu so there’s always something new to try or you can always go back to your favorites.
Great food! Great service! A Great time! What more can I say!!
Delicious flavors in each dish- much better than other tapas restaurants in the area. Fast service, friendly staff.
We found this restaurant from OpenTable and it was AMAZING, I highly recommend it! There are tons of options for vegetarians and the drinks were GREAT! The mojitos were fantastic, which are always hard to find. I highly recommend going here, especially because they make the food quick and, as it is tapas, you get to try a lot of different dishes. Also, all of the staff was fantastic!
Authentic Spanish tapas and cuisine. Love the seafood paella! Friendly, welcoming Chef and team!
Relaxed atmosphere, great food, perfect for small groups or couples. A bit more expensive than the average tapas place. But it's a convenient area with free parking.
The owners John and Victor are great hosts. It is nice to go to a restaurant where the owners oversee daily operations to ensure that customers are well served. We feel like part of the family every time we visit! John recommendation for the new Rib Eye tapa was great. We also like the selection of Spanish wines at affordable prices.
Macarena has a very warm and friendly ambience to it. The restaurant is very small and intimate so the noise level can be high at times. But the service and especially the food more than makes up for it. Outstanding tapas and the variety of flavored sangrias are marvelous.
Overall experience was as good as always. Was last there in October. At that time, I think they had become a victim of their own success, as the service was suffering that evening. Everything was just very slow. It was clearly improved this time. Will definitely go back again. Hadn't realized that it had been six months since we were last there.
Awful across the board. The food was tasteless. The bacon wrapped scallops were fried, and the bacon fat was very chewy. The goat cheese fritters were frozen as they were fried and cold in the middle. The patatas bravas was abysmal. I think they are reheating frozen items. I strongly advise avoiding this place. Came here for my birthday and they sat us near the kitchen door - couldn't hear each other. They are expensive and absolutely not worth it. Meson Sekiba, which we went back to the next day. I would never go back to Macarena Tapas, and I would not advise anyone to go there.
This place has great food and drink ( recommending the horchata margarita--which comes with an horchata popsicle in it). A great selection of cold and warm tapas and a friendly staff. Highly likely the "best tapas you'll ever have in a strip mall." The location is easy to get to but tricky to find amongst all the other storefronts but well worth the effort.
We always have a great time when we go and we love the drinks & food. The service is wonderful
Wonderful experience every time.
Excellent as usual! Our favorite tapas ~ we look forward to our next dinner here.
We had a great time with great people and great food. The owner and his brother are wonderful. They are very friendly and make you feel like you are family. The food is amazing!
Gourmet meal: we loved every single bite. True Spanish tapas. My family was in heaven. Cozy ambiance. This is our new favorite spot for date night or family dining. Unlike any other restaurant in Naperville.
Awesome place! Lovely atmosphere! Delicious food and sangrias!
Very cool, intimate atmosphere with amazing food and drinks!
Very attentive server! We had a great time, and everything we tried, we loved.
Delicious, great service, loved it all! Thank you!
Fantastic place! Great time as always! We love Victor! :-)
Accidentally fell upon this gem. Excellent service & the food even better. Best tapas I’ve have had in the states in ages. We love an hour away & will definitely drive back to dine here again.
We have visited Spain several times and we love to dine here when we are missing Spain & craving Tapas! Always an excellent experience.
Food is always amazing, my favorite place for Spanish food
This is a small restaurant space in an unassuming location, tucked into a strip mall--but there's nothing small about the food experience at Macarena Tapas! Each tapas we sampled was exquisitely prepared. In addition, the chef paid us a visit and offered us our first-ever tapas of fresh sardines--definitely worth a try!
Our Sunday night visit was especially pleasant, uncomplicated by the hubbub of the traditional weekend dinner crowd. The noise level was quite moderate, and the waiter was attentive and very helpful.
For margarita fans, do try Macarena Tapas's homemade version, replete with a margarita popsicle. A fun presentation, and a tasty beginning for a marvelous evening.
Can't believe that they've been there for 10 years. Good food and service.
