Macarena Tapas is a casual Spanish eatery that serves both traditional as well as innovative contemporary dishes. The restaurant has an intimate ambiance that makes it a great place for a romantic date or a relaxed dinner. Owner and Chef John Borras is particular about using high-quality ingredients to serve guests the best of Spanish flavors. Macarena Tapas also features a full-service bar.
The menu at Macarena Tapas features a wide range of both cold and hot tapas. Popular cold tapas dishes include garlic potato salad, classic Spanish marinated scallop and shrimp salad and a platter of cured Serrano ham, sausage, Manchengo cheese and olives. Some of the recommended hot tapas selections include classic Spanish-style meatballs with tomato sauce and artisan white cheese, mussels in a spicy tomato-based sauce and crab cakes topped with Asian coleslaw and paprika aioli sauce.
Love the vibe of this place. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Great food!!
Excellent food & can actually hear person across from you
Great food and very personable service. Will definitely go back!
Macarena is a favorite restaurant for many reasons. Exceptional food that is perfectly prepared with a broad range of choices. A thoughtful wine list that provides ample choices and allows you to explore Spanish wines. Friendly service makes for a fun dining experience.
Great dinner as always and enjoy the atmosphere with the friendly staff! Always a very good time for a great dinner! Will be back soon
Excellent food - lots of variety. Expect to spend a bit, even without drinks. Noise level was quite loud when we visited. Staff very friendly and attentive.
Best paella in town; probably as good or better than In Spain. Very creative tapas and great menu, not the run of the mill. Cozy ambiance and owners, John Braga and his brother, are always very cordial and warm. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food and great service with Victor! We had a terrific time!! Make sure to try the Whiskey Old Fashioned. The salmon, steak and chicaken tapas were unique and tasty! We will definitely be back.
Great hole-in-the-wall tapas place! The atmosphere is very intimate - perfect for date night! Great drink selections, including non-alcoholic cocktails. We particularly enjoyed the sangria, and appreciated the carafe options. The service is great, and a bit unique as the staff works together to serve your table - so you get the advantage of getting the recommendations directly from the chef staff when you order. The meal will end up being a bit pricey (as is often the case with tapas), but it is so worth and is a fun way to spend an evening or celebrate a special occasion.
Have gone there regularly. Food has always been good. Service slipped about a year ago, but this time it was fine.
I would definitely recommend it.
I always love this place, whether I come for a date or for GNO. I used to be a very loyal fan of Meson Sabika, but feel like quality of the food has gone down there. Macarena is always experimenting with new pairings, and their menu is constantly updated, so if you are wanting an old favorite, or if you are in the mood to try something new… You will always find what you're looking for. The drinks are amazing! The atmosphere is really nice and cozy. You can write your name on the walls, which is really cool. I always have a great time doing that every time I visit! They have cozy blankets and very comfortable seating. The ambience is beautiful, and the only thing I would change is a little bit more light. Maybe it is my middle-age eyes, but I always have trouble reading the menu. I think small table lamps may be helpful, without ruining the ambience. I love the location because it is convenient, and they put a few tables outside in summer, which is nice, and they include blankets to cover with, in case it gets chilly. This is truly a neighborhood gem. The owners are super friendly and always make us feel welcome, which makes dining here extra special. This location is small, so make sure to make reservations in advance to ensure you have a set. Sometimes, it gets busy, which would make just walking in difficult.
Great food. Service was great. I wish the dinning area wasn’t So tight. Mini chairs and table.
Cozy tapas restaurant. Great service. We ordered lots of small plates to share. Good drink menu. Our only complaint: the room was cold. We got there just after they opened. Other than that, we really enjoyed our meal.
I absolutely love everything about this place!
Great meal, great service!
Portions were small in comparison to other small plate restaurants. Overall the tapas were not as good as other places I’ve been. The owner served us and was attentive and very helpful. I went away hungry and probably won’t return.
Macarena remains my favorite area restaurant for many reasons. Passionate cooking and excellent service are the best reasons. Chef John and the back of house create amazing food from a small space. Tonight I was stunned by “jamon tacos” which displayed the finest Spanish cooking I’ve seen outside of Spain. Well done Chef! Service is spotless. I love this restaurant. Buen provecho!
Great authentic Spanish restaurant with great owners and staff. Must go to!!
Flatbread special and beet salad were excellent!!! New dessert mousse-fun and very tasty!!!!!
Remains a favorite and for many reasons. It’s like dining with family - very friendly service and food that reminds me of being in Spain. An unassuming place from the outside and a wonderful place inside. Specials tonight included particularly good mussels in ecabeche sauce and jamon iberico. Desert was just incredible. As always great values on the wine list. Very much worth a visit.
Small friendly place, menu not extensive. Too many spicy dishes for my taste, but we found some excellent dishes. The pork medallions and the scallops were outstanding!
This restaurant is the hidden gem of the western suburbs. The restaurant has charm and culinary enjoyment. If you are looking to enjoy good company and fine food this is the place. Whether a simple bite or special occasion they will make each time special for you.
The hostess and waitstaff were attentive and charming. We had the mushroom and cheese fritters and they were outstanding. The paella was very good, though a bit too much squid for my taste, and a bit tough. The mussels, shrimp, and white fish were delicious and ample. Sangria was good, but a bit pricey. Will definitely return!
Always great love love their food .....😀
Another great experience!!!
The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were larger than expected. Will definitely be back again. Wish we lived closer!
A great place for true Spanish Tapas. Excellent selection of dishes packed with flavor. Fabulous drinks as well. Service is always friendly and attentive and helpful in any suggestions of new things to try. If you haven’t tried it, it’s a must visit if you like tapas!
Great restaurant with friendly staff. Ambience is very nice, food is good and the drink selection is nice as well. Would definitely recommend for anyone. Not necessarily for kids but you definitely could bring them.
Too loud and noisy
Been going for several years and I have never had one bad dish.
we came over for our anniversary, we've been visiting for special occasions for about a decade.
Never left disappointed. The tapas combine sweet and savory, with sauces that excite all the taste buds.
The special was great, and the scallops with bacon and a savory sauce, Yum... of course save room for the goat cheese fritters with honey and balsamic reduction...
You won't regret it...
Excellent food. Cozy tight space. Always good when we go here
Try the flatbread special, you won't be disappointed! and the Sangria's too.
This is my go to restaurant for everything from a simple dinner to a special occasion. Each time they make the experience special. The menu is outstanding and so is the service.
The food was fabulous and the staff was very attentive and friendly.
Always a great experience here. It’s my favorite restaurant, hands down. The food is fantastic and the service is excellent every time we are there. Everyone I have introduced to the restaurant has thought the same and always returns. I’ve been going there for 6 or seven years and am still excited to go, every time! If they suggest a food, try it! I’ve never been disappointed!
Wonderful as always
Last question is would you recommend Macarena to a friend. My answer is actually, "That depends." If my friends were looking for a romantic place with good food and service, then no. Not because the food and the service isn't very good, because it is, but because the place is so cramped and LOUD that we couldn't even really talk to each other. We were celebrating our 28th anniversary and so this was a bad choice for us. I'm always dubious of a place in a strip mall and this kind of confirms my dubiousness.
Great food and atmosphere. And of course great drinks!
Macarena remains my favorite restaurant in Naperville. Gracious service. Delightful food. Who could ask for not?
