A bit pricey, but everything was delicious.
This has been a favorite of ours for many years and it never disappoints! From the cool build out (which looks like a trading company) to the always consistent and fabulous food to the impeccable service. Try it!
Tried contacting your restaurant via instagram to explain an incident that occurred and I have yet to even get a courteous “thank you for reaching out” response.
Everything was cold, the coconut rice was not cooked properly and the African chicken was tasteless. There’s very little attention paid to the food.
Adding insult to injury, our receipt included 7 beers, a fried rice and two other entrees we did not order. They fixed it and were apologetic about the $150 error.
It was just as I remembered since I was last there before Pandemics. Food was excellent and good atmosphere for friends to gather. (^_^)
Good food and drinks. Pricey as per usual in NYC.
Great food, great ambience, great service. A little pricey.
Ambiance, food and service were outstanding!!! A must!!!
In all the items that stole the show were the drinks. They are inventive, lots of flavor and are a nice spin on the traditional tiki drinks.
After that both of us can’t say much more then that. The food is lack luster with very little flavor. The one highlight of all the food for me was the sauce used for the whole fried fish. It had a good spice and vinegar flavor to it which was great for the fish. Otherwise the African chicken was luke warm, no Piri Piri flavor with a really bad cold slaw. And what tasted like a peanut sauce someone poured out of the jar and dumped on it. The Octopus didn’t have much flavor as I was hoping from the black vinegar. And the dumplings lacked the flavor as well. We opted out of dessert simply based on the courses we had already.
The server was extremely friendly and upbeat and always had a smile on her face. The entire place just comes across as a really bad themed restaurant you would find in Walt Disney World. It seems to be they wanted to avoid saying they were another Chinese restaurant by saying it was a fusion with Portuguese cuisine. But if you look at the menu the amount of Portuguese based/inspired items are lacking.
I’ve been here on dates and for drinks with friends. Everything I’ve tasted has been really good!! The African chicken is one of my favorites… the mushroom truffle croquettes are wonderful and the dumplings are delicious… definitely one of my favorite spots
Very good food and dinner experience.
My favorite restaurant in NYC. Always have the best time here 💕
Super cool place, food was good but a bit pricey for what it is. Overall I would come back
Great food and service!!! Never disappoints!
The hostess in front was rude and un accommodating, tried to sit us near the bathroom entrance, when there was 5 booths available, tried to tell us it was for parties of 4 , and told us to wait and never returned.,when we clearly saw couples sitting in them, thank you to our waiter, a young African American young man,Who sat us in a booth , and took care of us for the rest of the night, food was delicious, and his drink and food recommendations was on point, the African chicken and Basa whole fish. Absolutely Delicious with vegetables fried rice.
The drinks were out of the world amazing. As were the croquettes and dumplings. However, the really opinionated and bossy waitress basically refused our order and made us order the lobster noodles. They weren’t good. The lobster tail was mealy and the noodles were mediocre at best. Don’t let them bully you into expensive bad food. The less expensive things we ordered were really good.
maitre d kept us waiting even though the tables were open. service and food were good otherwise
The waitress said she needed to take our appetizer plates away because the main course was coming but it didn’t come for another 30 minutes so we basically ate without plates. The food was excellent but it was a friend’s birthday which I noted prior to arrival and the waitress said I don’t know if we can give you a candle. We also had to track down a different waiter to order a second glass of wine. That being said the bartender was very friendly and made great drinks!
A NYC Gem, with some of the best cocktails in this side of town
The food was amazing especially the octopus. Our host was so kind and and attentive. The waitress Chelsea was so sweet and on point. This is definitely a place I would return to especially when the drinks are amazing !!
Excellent food and service always!!! Highly recommended!
Get together with friends. Eating outdoors.
Food was bomb. Service was great. Dining outside yay
I didn’t enjoy my vegetable fried rice and fried shrimp and scallion dumplings, very mediocre.
The decor of this restaurant is beautiful. The service was great, the food absolutely fabulous. The dumplings are to die for. The croquettes, melt in your mouth and bacon/shrimp and vegetable fried rice was heaven.
A beautiful night out.
Highly recommend the ribs and lobster noodles- amazing and cannot wait to go back!
The service was incredible and so are the cocktails.
I used to drink and dine at the bar quite a bit years ago, and had my wife’s birthday celebration in the basement area over 10 years ago. So lots of great memories. It had been at least 5 years since I had been to Macao and was great to go back - such a great restaurant and bar - will be back again soon as the city opens up !
Really loved the dishes I ordered here—the crispy fish, brussel sprouts (a special), ants climbing the tree, and malasadas. Also appreciated that our server took out the spine of the fish for us! Next time I’d love to try indoor dining.
Great spot. High quality and interesting drinks. Creative menu, relatively small, but everything is top notch
I was expecting better quality food for the price, very commercial vibes
Reservations are a must for weekend dining. We were seated immediately upon arrival and service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and very familiar with the menu and the dishes being offered. The ambiance was upbeat /friendly and the background music was perfect.
We had kale salad, dumplings, steak, black rice, several types of noodles as well as fried rice. Lobster with noodles was particularly good.
Would definitely return next time in Tribeca.
Perfect place for Friday night gathering!
One of my favorite places to grab drinks around Chinatown! Chill vibes, friendly service, great drinks. Wouldn’t recommend the food but otherwise everything was great.
Fabulous place. So happy to be back after a fifteen-month gap.
First time visit Loved the place, service, food and pace of service was excellent. I look forward to going back.
Tasty familiar food !
Macao is the best place in TriBeCa !!! We are regulars and live nearby so we are thrilled you’re still here and we can come back!! Thank you for your consistency, excellent quality of food, and stellar waitstaff - primo dining experience. Our waiter was especially efficient kind and on top of all of our needs... especially my 4yr old.
We came here pre-pandemic for happy hour cocktails, we had a great time at that time and I made a mental note to come back for dinner. So that night was last night.
They only cater for 50% capacity and also offer outdoor dining. They do contact tracing and temperature checks. The waitstaff sat us for the table for 4 even if we are just dining for two (we thought that was a nice touch, we appreciated that).
We started with shrimp and pork steamed dumplings with our favorite alcoholic beverages. Nothing special with the dumplings if ever we probably had a better one elsewhere.
For our main entree, we ordered char siu bbq back ribs (which is listed as an appetizer), bacon and shrimp fried rice and crispy whole fish served with wok-fried coriander long beans.
As soon as the fish was served our waitstaff started removing the middle bones at the table making it easy for us to navigate on the dish (that was another nice touch).
The dishes complemented each other, it was so flavorful and perfect for a couple. This is one of those restaurant dinners that blew us away.
We both had a great time dining, thanks to the wonderful staff with awesome customer service and good food, this place is a must if you happen to be in NYC!
Cool vibe, good food and drinks, friends/date, maybe too loud for parents
