It’s always the perfect pre theater restaurant-particularly on Friday evening when there is jazz and great food. Menu is constantly changing - tonight’s artichoke potion was perfect!

We were seated in the historic hotel dining area. It was very quiet for our pre-theater dinner, in another building away from the noisy bar area. My trout was wonderful with a crisp skin and flaky fish. The roasted vegetables would have been great, but they were overly salty. My husband had the baked chicken and enjoyed it. We finished eating an hour before the play was to start, but we were not made to rush out. there were still empty tables and the staff assured us we could take our time.

We really hoped that dinner before the theater, this time, would be good as there are not too many restaurants in the Walnut St theater area. We were disappointed again with the food and service. We were seated by a door that was continually being opened for the staff to ferry things to where a wedding was being held. Cold and annoying. We were moved to another table. The appetizers were good, however, much too salty. The vegetables in our main courses came out cold, we complained and then they brought out another order which was just as cold. One of the party had the pork entree, which was also cold. They did give us 10% discount, but that is not enough to warrant a return visit.

Happy hour with Hannah was a delight. She was very professional and fun to chat with. Steven our server was helpful and knowledgeable of the menu. Going on his recommendation our Short Ribs and Trout dishes were excellent. I especially loved the Bacon Wrapped Dates appetizer "yummy". I can not wait to go again. You do not want to miss out on dinning at the M Restaurant.

Loved this place-the ambiance, the very cozy bar (the 3 for $15 is a city winner), and the lovely outdoor setting, which I intend to check out soon when the weather behaves. We heard live music which was lovely with a pianist and a harmonica vocal team that was refreshing.
Our main courses were perfectly presented and were delicious. Hannah the bartender was super nice, as well as our waiter Steve. Hoping to go back soon. Overall a wonderful night on an otherwise chilly evening.

Restaurant is in a very convenient location. Service was good and wine great; food not very good....salad greens were grainy as if they hadn't been completely washed, acorn squash was cold and not very tasty, artichoke pot-pie was very watery.

What a pleasant surprise! We discovered this restaurant and bar on our walk to another spot a month or so ago! Stopped in for a drink at the bar, and decided to return for dinner on our next theatre venture! We just completed that visit (2/15) and realized that we had found a truly special place with great service, cocktails, and food!
Our server, Linna was also truly special, paying close attention to us throughout our visit! The daily special of beef lion with hummus and fresh baby carrots was from the genius mind of a most creative chef!
We, and many friends will visit many more times!

We went for Valentine's Day and had a wonderful meal all around. We had a silky tomato bisque, an oyster barley soup, one of the best salad courses ever for a house salad (the dressing was just absolutely delicious), and then we shared a whole Dorade fish, which was perfectly prepared, so flaky and delicious with a creamy oyster sauce. For dessert, I had the poached pears with a creme anglaise and my date had baked brie. What a meal! The dining room was abuzz all evening with happy, attentive waiters and we enjoyed the usual Wednesday perk of live jazz. All in all, it was truly a lovely evening all around. It was great to celebrate in a room that was filled with many happy diners. We will be back!

M is very close to the Walnut Street Theatre. We have visited M three times previously and enjoyed our meals. The fourth was unfortunate. The waiter knocked a glass of water onto me. The restaurant was out of several dishes, appetizers and entrees, but the waiter was unaware of that fact and came back twice to change orders. When everything was sorted out, the only entree that seemed appealing was chicken. It was a bit dry. I enjoyed the tuna tartare but that was only dish that any of the four of us thought notable. Two of us found a white chocolate dessert inedible. The setting is cozy and not noisy.

Restaurant week

Great restaurant. Third time there, all pre-Walnut Theatre outings. It was restaurant week, and found it curious to the special menu for Saturday night. We came especially for the short ribs which was not on the menu, but the chef accommodated us for a slightly higher charge. Food did not disappoint. We had the rabbit roulette which was excellent and a salad, followed by the ribs and the chicken. Ribs were boneless, but if there was a bone, they would have fallen off being so tender. And chicken was cooked well and moist. Everything was great. Was a bit surprised that there was an upcharge for an additional serving of bread, but I guess that is to keep people from over-ordering. This is a great find and only a block from the Walnut so as season ticket holders, it is becoming a go-to place for us.

Visited M again to sample the menu under the new chef from Noord. I was not disappointed- had an excellent meal which was a great value given that it was restaurant week. Started with the potato leek soup which was delicious including a potato cake with caviar and sour cream on top. Entree was fisherman’s stew. The clams , mussels, shrimp, octopus and white fish were so incredibly fresh, plump and yummy in a barley broth. The barley was a little crunchy, a nice touch to the tasty broth. My husband I finished every morsel and every drop of the broth. My husband enjoyed his dessert: peanut butter mouse filled cream puffs. My dessert was less appealing: vegan cookies with raspberries. The pre dinnercocktail made with pear infused vodka was perfect.

Food in portion size and taste has improved much since Joncarl took over as chef. We dined in a private room with a fireplace. Warm and toasty and very quiet. Only another party of three. Had the tuna tartar app, husband had salad and friend had fried oysters. Main courses: Trout for husband and friend and I had seafood/spanish octopus dish. Trout was outstanding. Only down side was the $4.00 extra charge charge for additional bread which, under the circumstances, is chintzy and server said patrons who did not see it on menu balked when charged. Coffee and desert were find. Service was a bit slow but in these surroundings no one cared.

Ordered another drink but oops she forgot and it took 15 minutes to get. She was busy setting up new tables. Husband ordered a drink oops took another 15 minutes. Not impressed. Will not go back tell people about. Horrible service and foid was so so. Expected ddo much more.

Two meals were from the restaurant week menu. Potato leek soup and chicken entree’s which were excellent. The third person ordered trout from regular menu and was said to be ‘the best trout in memory ‘. Very comfortable seating, excellent service, and overall did not disappoint. Also, had cocktails which were very good. Will return.

Very mixed. Nice ambiance, cozy dining room. Good noise level. But service was spotty (waiter never mentioned specials, left menus on table to sit for 15 minutes). We ate off restaurant week menu. Food was so-so. Disappointing because we had been a fan of Joncarl's cooking at Noord. It's two blocks away from us but not sure if we'd frequent much pro bay give it one more try. Based on our first meal, I wouldn't recommend to friends.

New chef left his skills at Noord or didn’t teach his new kitchen staff how to cook quality food. Over cooked, salt was the only thing to try to create flavor, and my rabbit appetizer tasted like tuna fish from a can. I will just stay at Noord.

We celebrated New Year’s Eve at the M Restaurant the Morris House Hotel, after having considered several different options. The event was more casual than we had anticipated, but we were welcomed warmly and the service was good (if a bit rushed, even though we had a later seating. The menu was limited (3 soups to choose from to start, a baby green salad, a choice of 5 entrees – we went with the veal osso buco, which was fabulous) and a selection of desserts. We did have a nice bottle of Spanish Garnatxa, which went well with the food. The hotel and restaurant are located in an original historic house; there is a fireplace burning; and it would have been romantic if it hadn’t been New Year’s Eve. It was very cold that night, and the staff kept going outside between the two restaurant sites (which are separated by the courtyard) – every time the door opened, the chilly air blew in. We were done and back in our hotel room before midnight, making it one of our simpler New Year’s Eves.

We've been to M Restaurant many times and choose it as something new to try for New Years Eve. It worked out quite well as it was a nice quiet dinner, which we were seeking. I'd recommend it as a great place for simply a drink at the bar or dining in any of the dining rooms. The menu was worth the value with unique items tailored for the New Year.

Back to Life. This neighborhood gem is back and hopefully to stay. We had dined here frequently years ago but found each time we visited the service and food just was not up to standards. Being fans of Joncarl Lachman we were excited to learn he was now executive chef. In its prime the atmosphere at M was quiet / stuffy and for the mature neighborhood folks. It needed to change as the neighborhood did. I think that change is finally starting. Lachman brings his talents from the kitchen and the front of the house with him. His great suçesss from NOORD will hopefully follow him to M. What a great dining experience last evening. Service and food was outstanding. Lachmans personality and talents are a much needed improvement and we will be sure to become regulars once again.

Dinner for two on a holiday weeknight. Had not been to M for a number of years. Place is still nice but kind of drab looking inside, BUT the food and wine is as good as any you will find anywhere else in the City. Nice surprise compared to my last meal there. There were so many delicious options on the menu! I cannot wait to go back.
