I know the restaurant is closing and it is pretty clear why. It was a fixed price menu which they did not tell me when I made my reservation. On paper, the menu seemed good but the actual food and presentation were clearly lacking. My steak was overdone and when I was asked by both my server and the manager and told and showed them the steak, they both kind of said and did nothing. It was really weird. My server did take a glass of wine off the bill but never offered to get me a replacement for my entree. We also couldn't get a later res. than 4:45 but when we left at 6:30, the place was still more than half empty - so neither the kitchen or management can handle the job. Unfortunately, despite a very pretty physical space, nothing else lived up to quality and that is why they are closing.

I am so sad this restaurant is closing. Everything about it is wonderful. Such a loss.
This was our second time dining at M Restaurant. Service was, once again, excellent. The food was very good, but there were some seasoning issues (beet salad was over seasoned, for instance). The location is great for pre-Walnut Street Theater dining. Overall, very happy with this restaurant and recommend giving it a try.
Very professional service, that was efficient and respectful. Our party of four enjoyed well-made cocktails, great salads and terrific entrees. The tile fish and the vegetarian entrees were exceptional. The ambience is very attractive to the more mature patron who is looking for tablecloths, moderate noise and not being called "guys" by the servers.

Food and service were very good. We were here during restaurant week. Restaurant week menu was limited but everything on it was good. Full menu was also offered.
We met up with a group of 7 friends. Per our request, we were seated in the library. We dined from the restaurant week menu. All three courses were delicious, and no one left hungry.
Run, don't walk to enjoy Restaurant Week at this beautiful, intimate, romantic restaurant. Perfection all around, food, quality, service, ambiance, music, value. Pictures don't do it justice. Had the best spinach salad ever and the short ribs were divine. One of the best dinner experiences I've ever had.

The restaurant staff was very attending, took the time to explain the menu and our waiter knew in detail everything about the menu and each entree . He was also very helpful with the wine selection. The food was excellent and each plate was served very timely. The table was cleaned (bread crumbs) before the entree were served. All in all, a great dining experience and we will go back.
I went on the website numerous times prior to going and did not see any reference to a pre fix dinner with minimal choices . The regular menu was not available. I have grown up handling all kinds of seafood, and fresh fish does not taste 'fishy" which unfortunately 2 of my courses did. Other tables got bread but no bread was brought to our table. My husband had the short rib which was very good. The squash soup was delicious and I love how the food came out really hot. The service was great and the people are really nice. The music choice for dinner was a weird 60s and 70s pop and rock mix which should have stayed up at the bar.
Good location for pre- theater dining. Food is inconsistent. Had steak that was overcooked. Cheesecake for desert was dry and very small portion. Wine list is good.
The restaurant was very nice and the service was fine. Not much of a beer selection, none on draft. The food was good for the value. The location is very close to Walnut Street Theater. The interior is very nice.
Always love going to this restaurant. Solidly, a great dining experience.
Restaurant has amazing atmosphere and history. Service was right on point and the food was very good. I will come back and recommend it to my friends.
Although this restaurant is beautiful and the staff is friendly, this is not a place to come to when it's very cold outside and you are seated in one of the more private rooms. We were seated by a door and all the staff would walk in and out to serve. At one point the wind blew the door open and I jumped up to close it because I was the closets to the door. I'm sure on a day when it's not blustery cold out it would be fine. Now considering there are other doors to go through to access this room that is what should have been done, but wasn't until I complained. My husband even commented that we were the only table without a candle. I told him that is because it would blow out every time someone opened the door. LOL
I ordered the pork chop with collard greens and pears. The pork chop was surprisingly very thing and very overcooked and dry. The sauce over it was very salty and way too much of it was poured on my food that it covered up the taste of the collard greens. My husbands scallops were also overcooked, but he said they were seasoned well. For the price of the meals I was expecting better.
Our server was very nice, but unfortunately did not have a very good memory. We had asked for lime for our sparkling water which we never received. My husband had to ask for a glass of water several times. Our coffees were room temperature. One of the customers at a nearby table had ordered the Apple pie and never received his serving even after telling the waiter about it. Seems that the waiter doesn't have a very good memory and should probably write down everything he is asked for.
We won't be back.
This is the first time we went to this restaurant and we were most impressed. We will definitely be going back! The service, the food, and the ambience was very good. We ate there before going to the theater and the waitress ensured that we got out one time for the show. In the warmer weather they have outside dining and I am looking forward to doing that.
We ate in the Library where the room is smaller and quieter which is what we wanted. This room is accessed by going outside. The wait staff kept leaving the door open as they serviced the tables. As a result, the guests had to keep getting up to close the door. We shared this with the wait staff but they kept forgetting to close the door.
The Morris Inn is charming and comfortable. The appetizers were great: shaved salad and salted beets. The entrees were disappointing: scallops and fluke. Both were a bit bland, especially considering the price. The staff was attentive (we were there early) and the bar is cool.

Small place with great staff. Not a large variety of menu options. Meals were well prepared and presented. My appetizer, though was not. I mentioned it to waiter who immediately removed charge from our bill. Not an avant-garde venue but a nice place for a romantic dinner.
This was a Sunday night, and the restaurant had very light seating and a very light staff. The service was very slow and our waiter, while very nice, continued to forget orders throughout the night. The potato soup with onions and Parmesan cheese was very good, the tile fish was fair in flavor and texture, but the accompanying greens were very flavorful. The shrimp pesto entree came with pasta, which was unclear on the menu, and the dish was fair in flavor. The evening was warm, so dining on the red brick patio with twinkle lights, a gazebo, and trees was relaxing and whimsical. Perhaps the restaurant has better wait staff/kitchen service on busier nights?

The manager went to every table but mine to talk to patrons. I wonder why that was? Perhaps because my wife and I were a different hue than everyone else there.
I'll never go there again. I got the sense that we weren't wanted there and I won't spend my money where I don't feel welcome. I've also shared my experience with friends.
Perfect place for a meal or quick bites when in the area of Pennsylvania Hospital. Happy hour prices from 4-7 when we were there. Small plates were delicious and the meals looked good too. WE had hummus with cauliflower pitas which were outstanding - especially for us gluten free girls. The pork sliders were scrumptious as were the stuffed dates.
Impeccable food in a very relaxed atmosphere. The colonial hotel that it’s housed in is a classic American marvel.
M is a beautiful quiet restaurant. I hadn’t been there for a few years. The bar and drinks were very good. The food was ok, my husbands fish was overcooked and my chicken was overcooked as well. I will return because of the great hostess and atmosphere.
There are a lot of good restaurants in Philadelphia but none has a garden seating option as lovely as M. We sat outside and when the evening turned a little cool, a waiter raced over, unasked, with a huge heat lamp. As to the food, who can beat shuck-a-buck sweetest ever oysters on a half shell, with just enough taste of the ocean to provoke summer nostalgia. Which is why we then ordered the fluke and the scallops which were both delicate, perfectly cooked, with nice accompaniments like crushed mint peas...yumm. Why go to the city's oh-so-hip huge food factories where for the same price you can hear your friends talk and receive the attention of friendly, interesting wait staff.
We had a lovely meal in a setting that was beautiful and calm. The variety of the menu was very appealing. The beet salad with whipped tofu was great (and not being a big tofu lover, surprisingly good). We also had the shrimp and pappardelle. Very delicious.
The vibe is always sophisticated and responsive.
Can't wait to go back.
They were so sweet to set up up outside in the tent and fire up some of the heaters to keepus toasty. The Savignon Blanc and the Oysters were terrific. Great service and being in the garden in October was a treat. With a nice weekend coming, an excellent spot for a lovely dinner.
We shared the 5 cheese platter with a bacon mustard side (wow!!) and other accompaniments that were so delicious, it was a great way to start our meal. I had the scrumptious Mafaldine pasta with shrimp, arugula pesto, and ricotta salata, and my husband had the seared scallops with crushed mint peas and pea shoots. Both were perfectly seasoned and prepared. Our waiter was attentive, polite and thorough. The lemon curd dessert was one of the best desserts we have ever had in any restaurant with its perfect balance of tart to sweet, with a crunchy graham cracker crust and toasted meringue on the top. Bravo to all for an exceptional meal!
Service has to do better. Staff seemed easily distracted by some guests, leaving the rest of us waiting for drinks, bread, and the check. Not their best showing, our worst experience yet at this very nice restaurant.
Lovely spot for an early dinner. We didn’t take into consideration that it was restaurant week, and as a result the kitchen/bar seemed overwhelmed for the first 30 minutes we were there. Once the tables filled up things seemed to run more smoothly, and our meals were delicious.
Staff made our FIRST visit to M feel like visiting family rather than patrons. God Bless all of the energetic staff.
Celebration of an engagement.
Arrived on time for 5:30 reservations. Told maitre d’ and server we had to make 8:00 show at Walnut Street Theater - said it would be no problem. Service was so slow that we had to have our desserts boxed up to take with us. We ate inside and felt that all their attention was being given to the outside guests. Would not return.
Disappointed with the restaurant week selection. Had to ask for bread twice before getting. Meal was rushed. Service not good and she only had 2 tables. Have been there before and it was outstanding. Told there was a new fab chef. I don't think so.
We went to M Restaurant at Morris House during Restaurant Week this
autumn. We chose to order from that menu, 3 courses for $35. There were 3 choices for each course. The appetizer course was very good. Two of us had the hummus with a beet reduction accent, the other the Gazpacho. Both were very good. The entrée course was a choice of either a 5 cheese ravioli, catfish with ham hock and collards, or French cut chicken. Each of us had a different entrée everyone we more than satisfied with their meal. The dessert course was excellent as well. We all chose the cheese and berry cake.
The white bean ravioli was dry and tasteless. We both ordered it and were very disappointed. Our waiter was pretty average and presented us with the wrong bill. I suppose it was an honest mistake but it was almost double the correct bill. He was mildly apologetic. Overall not a great experience. Have to think long and hard about a return visit.
