Wonderful atmosphere, cool bar, very good food. Feels like a French country inn in the middle of the city.
We have often eaten at M before a show at the Walnut Street Theater, but this visit was not up to their usual standards. They have a prix fixe before theater special, and the hostess told us that all of the items on the menu could be had as part of the prix fix. I ordered white wine, expecting to order the scallops. The waiter brought the wine, did not show me The bottle and I had to ask in order to taste it. Turns out, it was not the wine we ordered. When we ordered the entrées, however I was told that the scallops were not included. The service was much slower than usual, and we almost missed the show, even though they knew from the get go that we had theater tickets. One of my guests is gluten-free but all of the dessert options were cake. In checking with the kitchen, the waiter found out that one of the cakes was indeed gluten-free. It didn’t matter though because they were all awful and nobody had more than two bites. In summary, there was no coordination between the hostess, the waiter and the kitchen. We may return, but it won’t be soon.
Appetizers were fabulous! Entrees were just ok, dessert was terrible and coffee was room temp. Ambiance was superb!
Went after a show at the Walnut Street Theater. Quiet smaller restaurant that was a very convenient 3 minute walk from the theater. Service was very good and the food was excellent. My wife had the brook trout and I had a short rib dinner. Both were very good The spinach salad for was also very tasty. Will definitely be back Good meal and an excellent value
Excellent food; excellent service! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinners.
Unfortunately, we never did order as I received a call from the hospital that my Mom was in grave condition and had to leave. We will try and return.
We loved our food. Our waiter was the best ever. The garden was lovely. I can def recommend.
Poor service. Not noticed for 15 - 20 minutes once seated . One Entre full of gristle which was nauseating . Seated under brightly lit tent (not romantic at all). Altogether disappointed
Experience was not great. Our server Corey, despite being new, was the only positive. Felt it was over priced, they hadn’t updated the website so the menu was considerably different from what we expected and we weren’t wowed by the food. It was ok but vegetables were under cooked, they mixed up the side dishes and we were underwhelmed. Nothing awful just no reason to go back.
M Restaurant is charming, cozy and romantic. We had the happy hour cheese board which featured Brie, two hard cheeses, cranraisins and honey with walnuts. Love the French feel of the bar, soft lighting and softer music. Would recommend M for any occasion.
The only nice thing was outdoor seating. Food, service horrible. One of the worst meals we have had.Waited to be checked in because no one was there. Was one waitress for all the tables( 5 inside,5 outside) and the manager. He was taking care of the bar too. 5 people , 2 waiting for a bill. Asked to sit outside. Took 20 minutes for the waitress to come. When she finally came told us she was the only waitress so ordered everything when she came. It took forever just to get water. The menu was not appetizing. Had tuna tartare-was ok, fried oysters with chicken salad. The oysters were soggy and greasy, the chichen salad no flavor. I had an arugala salad the tasted like it had no dressing . Did not ask for more dressing since we never saw waitress. She dropped off a slice of bread that had a cake texture. Was a cumin bread and was auwful. We do not like cumin and my husband is allergic to cumin. You could smell it,it was so pungent. We asked her for regular bread and she said they only have this. Is that what they serve with the cheese board? We stuggled to find something to eat. I got the mushrooms, cabbage and chick peas. Cannot believe that was dinner entree. Had no flavor and a bit soupy. The thyme sprig was thrown in. They could have taken it off the stalk and used more for flavor. My son had scallops. There was a funky coating around them that did not taste good. My husband ordered the chicken and she came back to tell us they were out of chicken. 7:15 and out of chicken means no one liked the menu. So my husband told her there was not anything else he wanted. She then said they had a few specials! She could not tell us while ordering?Did not matter. She talked him into butternut squash soup. Was terrible&tasted like they dumped a whole jar of cumin in it. We told her that this was one of the worst meals we have had and to make sure she tells the chef. She asked us if we wanted our meals wrapped !Said we wanted the check. $170 for that garbage! We ate somewhere else.
Unfortunately, we had a brand new waitress. She was good but didn't know answers to our questions about the menu - We went for price fix but she wasn't aware they even had that - menu limited and unique - squash soup very good but the meal I had - braised short ribs with risotto - meat good but the risotto was crunchy and not melt in my mouth type - very disappointed for the price.
Lovely setting in a courtyard garden. Inside with attention to nice artwork and stylish furnishings. Food was so so. Not bad just not as good as expected for the price.
Our first visit to M. We loved e erything. The food was prepared well and everything tasted lovely.
Great service, professional and friendly.
The bacon wrapped stuffed dates were fabulous; the bread was worth every calorie; the pork special was spectacular. Drinks were good. Our waitress was attentive; fun; and gave recommendations which were spot on. The restaurant is small and I recommend going with no time constraints. It is a local spot.
More expensive than the foods worth
Pork chop came over salted and well done, switched to tenderloin which was well prepared and delicious. The service was excellent and atmosphere charming.
We sat outside. The service was beyond horrible. I ordered a drink when I arrived and 30 minutes later I didn't receive it even after everyone had drinks and appetizers. The whole night went that way. We were ignored all night. The food wasn't just not good but disgusting. The filets were coated in black pepper and the roasted chicken had fatty skin on it. We ordered raw oysters and got oysters Rockefeller. I waited 15 minutes for someone to pick up my credit card so I could pay.
The food was excellent, but the service was terrible. Our server introduced another man who was working his first night. The new server did a terrible job. I could have done better!! I assumed he had received little or no training. For example, he set down the bread basket on top of a candle, almost knocking over the candle. He forgot to deliver a glass of wine and had to be reminded (the restaurant was not busy). He gave me a knife for my steak, but it was a paring knife! When I questioned him, he said, oh, that's a paring knife, and proceeded to give me a steak knife. The paring knife also looked dirty. In addition, after I ordered, the waiter came back and told me what I wanted was not available. Why didn't he tell me that when he gave me the menu? I will go back to this restaurant because the food is good and the garden is lovely.
What a gem. The restaurant is attached to the Morris Hotel across from convenient parking that serves Jefferson. The courtyard garden is amazing, a wonderful place to relax with drinks, have a pre-theater dinner or just meet friends for a night out. I could imagine small weddings and events, especially in spring and fall. I am told Christmas time is breathtaking.
The food choices were varied and well executed. I had ricotta gnocchi and a skewer of grilled shrimp that turned out to be an excellent combo for a summer evening. The bar and inside seating were well appointed.
If there was a downside, service from the kitchen was on the slower side but it seemed they were down to one waitress. But overall it was a memorable experience and one we will revisit.
perfect place to take friends, enjoy the food and be able to have a conversation.......
excellent waiter and staff.
Service was slow and food ok not great
The tale of two dinners. Mine was good - cold peach soup, tuna tartare and heirloom tomato salad. My spouse's voice of the rack of lamb was bad. The couple next to us told my spouse struggling to cut the rack said "the meat is raw". So we sent it back and a second rack of lamb arrived, cooked but still a struggle to cut and my wife said the vegetables has a "funny" taste. She's not a picky eater. All in all, my wife's dinners were poor to bad. This was our first visit to M's and we had high hopes. The handicapped accessibility was good, I use a scooter. But the food served to my spouse was bad.
I was planning dinner here to celebrate a special occasion. I was incredibly impressed with attentiveness of everyone at M restaurant. Everyone from hostess to waitresses was extremely friendly, and the food was superb. The outside patio is also gorgeous in the evening. Would highly recommend.
Advertised Jazz in the outdoor courtyard. Didn't happen.
Food was OK. Overall not worth the trip downtown with the comparable options in the northern suburbs.
such an enjoyable experience and all our dishes were superb!
The food is very good. The prices are tourist prices. Venue is nice, garden is excellent. A variety of Cocktails. Wine list is a little over priced and they didn’t have my wine choice. Beer was good and saved some money on a large bill for philadelphia. I will say though the food is fresh and good. Hint: better than Tulula’s garden imho.
We sat outside which was a great experience although a little noisy. It is very beautiful in the courtyard that we sat in. The food was great other than the vegetable pot pie which was a little bland. I tried soft shell crab for the first time which was delicious. The waiter, Steve, was very nice and accommodating.
Great as usual. Food and service impeccable.
It was so noisy we had to leave. Puti- Outside sitting would have been nice but it was raining.
A beautiful summer night, not too hot, sitting outside in the courtyard. Excellent cocktails, service and a delicious dinner. Definitely one of the best restaurants for a date night out.
has all the necessities for a great meal but continues to fall short...just not good enough, not clean and spiffy...just not worth the price when you can go close by and get it all.
Lovely garden setting, especially on a nice summer night. The food was OK, and not a good value for the money.
Perfect hidden under the stars gourmet dining in the middle of the city...
Lovely late Sunday afternoon for early dinner before Walnut Theater show. Dinner was delicious. Summer weather so after dinner drinks in outdoor garden area for conversation with friends.
Nice setting. However the music was too loud so that I had to shout across the table at my friend. It should be more subdued. Food was great, however I did not want to ruin my weight watching by eating a caloric dessert and when I asked for fruit or a scoop of ice cream with some fruit, they didn’t have any. I’ve never been to a restaurant where they didn’t have any fruit Or some low calorie substitute.
Have eaten dinner here a few times. On Tuesday, the clams casino were chewy & not very flavorful. I did get the extra fried oysters I requested but the spoonful of chicken salad, which accompanied the dish, was minuscule. A little disappointed this time around!
Brought my mom for her birthday after seeing Mamma Mia! Food was great and we sat outside in the courtyard which was lovely!
We love everything about this place! The garden area is so pretty and romantic in the evening! And food was delicious. We had a special occasion so the restaurant nicely offered complimentary champagne.
Lovely outdoor space. Good food. I would return.
