Lyon Hall Ratings and Reviews
Our group of five enjoyed brunch at Lyon Hall this past Sunday. We had a great table upstairs, which is a bit quieter than downstairs, and outstanding service throughout our visit. Everyone reported favorably on their selections. Two of us had the lobster omelet, which was a perfect size and with plenty of lobster to justify the price. None of us enjoy huge portions, but also don't want to leave hungry, and Lyon Hall seems to find the right balance. The quiche Lorraine was light and very tasty, and the squash and ? dish looked wonderful. The bloody Mary's were a big hit as well.
This was our first time at Lyon Hall and it lived up to it's great reputation. We had excellent service, great food, and a wide selection of beers. We were there for a family dinner with our two kids and sat up on the second floor. We really liked the second floor as it was much quieter than the main floor. We'd definitely recommend it and will go again!
Nice meal, good service, even on a busy Saturday night. No real complaints, but I would point out 2 minor issues: (1) the lighting was excessively dim; and, (2) it would have been nice if our waiter had pointed out that the mussels don't come with a side of fries (IMHO "mussels + frites" is a standard pairing).
The waitress was very good! The fresh donuts were awesome and had unique flavors we all enjoyed. Everyone made different choices from the brunch menu and they all loved everything. It was a family birthday. No fuss was made, just a simple “Happy Birthday” was said which was fine by us. We will go back again soon.
Incomparable service! I requested a quiet table downstairs for my aging parents. Upon our arrival the host saw that the table set aside for our party, with high chairs, simply wouldn't do. He kindly made space for us on the mezzanine, whisking us to the lift, which is typically used for dish trollies. While apologizing for the state of the lift, he ushered us in such a manner so as to negate any sense of embarrassment on the arthritic members of our party.
The food was unparalleled (as always), and a rare delight for my family on Christmas Eve.
The only negative of the evening was a young family falling short of keeping their children on their best behavior nearby.
Lyon Hall continues to be a favorite for me. Thank you for your hospitality.
Excellent food and very good service. Lost a star on service because our food took a bit longer to arrive than I'd have liked considering the restaurant was pretty empty. Lost another star for ambience/noise because the upstairs dining room storm is sonically hard, and when it fills up - partucularly if there are ill-behaved children nearby as was our case - it can be hard to hear your fellow diners. But the food was superb!
Neighborhood Gem is right. The place was hopping on a Monday night although there was a holiday party in one of the rooms. Noise level very high but the small tables help make talking work out. Our server whose name I failed to get was about perfect. Always attentive, fast, polite. Couldn't have asked for a better server. I had the rainbow trout which was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. My friend had a brussel sprouts dish which was great and a beet salad. Monday night is $1 oyster night so we had 12 which arrived practically as soon as we ordered them. Altogether an excellent food outing. Now near top of my fav list of places to eat!
I have been to Lyon Hall several times although it had been a while since my last visit. If you like beer it is probably a good place to go as they have quite a selection. But I don't drink beer and went for dinner. We ordered the short ribs and the gnocchi along with a chopped romaine salad and an appetizer that I don't see on the website but turned out to be some fried salami. The salad was just a big bowl of lettuce but it was as described. The dressing was not very distinctive. The server also delivered a complimentary appetizer of arancini with some aioli. I have had arancini many times and it is usually very flavorful, almost decadent but this was pretty tasteless. The short ribs were a little overcooked but okay. The gnocchi had pears, walnuts, butternut squash, burrata and some greens. Sounds good but actually it was just those individual things on the plate together with no blending of flavors so it just didn't work. With so many choices of good places to eat, I think I will not be returning to Lyon Hall.
Best. Mussels. Ever. We tried the traditional wine base with a touch of creme fresh but plan to go back and try each and every preparation offered. BYOB with a reasonable corkage, even offered to decant for us. Nice Steak Frites - I would go back just for the frites. Mussels and fries, life is good! Cappucino so good, I had two. The creme brulee so delicious, we ordered a second. Yes, decadent. Yes, worth it! Thanks for a great afternoon wine lunch with a friend.
We went for brunch. First I'll say my cappuccino was very good. I hate to provide a negative review, but they really shouldn't be sending out food like this... I ordered "Poached eggs w avocado, smoked bacon, heirloom tomato, red onion, croissant." The avocado was actually a very pale green-gray mush that I guess was someone's take on guacamole. It was spread onto a mediocre (at best) croissant with 2 ICE COLD poached eggs. The eggs were so cold I can't imagine they were even cooked within the hour, or possibly that day. The heirloom tomato was 1 red grape tomato and 1/2 of a yellow grape tomato. The smoked bacon was comprised of 2 cold, very crispy 1-2 inch pieces criss-crossed on the top. I got a couple of bonus slices of bright purple dragon fruit on top which I'm guessing were put on their to distract from the color of the "avocado" because dragon fruit does not go with that kind of dish. In sum, it was poorly described and poorly executed.
Seated within 5 minutes of our reservations. Per our waiter recommendation, had the trout and steak -- both were perfectly cooked, perfectly paired with other ingredients and just delicious. Also had a house salad and pretzel w/dip (just ok). Bread pudding dessert was also good. Was hesitant to go here with friends as other reviews said the atmosphere was too loud. Found that, though lively, we could easily hold a conversation at normal voice levels. Would highly recommend!
