Lyon Hall Ratings and Reviews
I came here on a Saturday morning after the Four Courts Four Miler. The brunch was fantastic! I'm not sure if I just worked up a big appetite, but the food was better than any breakfast food I can remember having recently in the area. I ordered the eggs and lamb sausage. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausage was delicious. My boyfriend got the steak and eggs and his steak was fantastic - super juicy and tender. I will definitley be coming back again for brunch. This is my new favorite spot!
The drinks (an extensive beer list, strong wine list and well-made cocktails) and appetizers were on the nose for a brasserie-style place. Entrees were pretty unimpressive, though-- the steak was overdone and the roast chicken looked pretty pallid. Some of us felt the sauces were greasy, too.
That said, the charcuterie, cheese, appetizer and drinks options are great. Knowledgable bar staff and attentive waiters, even at peak times. Next time I'll order tapas-style and skip the entrees.
Every time we go to Lyon Hall, we have a fabulous time. The food is delicious, the waitstaff is fun and knowledgable, the host team is terrific! I love the scallops - my husband is a huge fan of the frankfurter (and all the fantastic smoked meat). I tried the French Onion soup with short ribs - incredible!
I made a Saturday night reservation for 8:00 for 2, but they couldn't seat us until 8:30 or 8:45 or so. The restaurant did feel bad and provided a free appetizer to us once we sat down. Tables are extremely close together, making it pretty much impossible to have a private conversation. I thought the food was very good. The prices were pretty standard for restaurants in the Clarendon area. I'd go back.
When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess informed us that the table we were supposed to occupy still had "lingerers." She went out of her way to seat us in a timely manner. We were very pleased with her friendliness and the effort she made. We liked the table we were seated at, in the corner by a window, but after that, it seems we were forgotten. Our waitress was not very friendly and she did not visit often enough. The food was outstanding in taste, but I had the Pasta Tagliatelle and it was lukewarm. Also, when we had our warm olives put into a doggy bag, we found the next day that the person who had bagged it (not our waitress) and included the pits that we had already deposited into a separate bowl - not a welcome leftover.
I showed up at 7:30 pm for an 8 pm reservation on Sunday. since our table was not ready, i told the hostess that i will be at the bar waiting. after seeing a few people who showed up after me being seated for 30 minutes and empty tables, i approached the hostess regarding my table. "oh, it's been ready for you." What? why didn't you come to get me?
while at the bar, i ordered a glass of Bourgogne, which was written on the board. the bar tender had no idea what i was ordering. i pointed to the sign and she exclaimed "oh Burgundy". No Sh.. Sherlock. If you don't understand the word in French, then you should put it in English. stop trying so hard.
The food was okay. nothing special. the sausages were fine, but on the bland sid
While the food was good and our waiter was attentive, there are simply too many good restaurants in this area to make me want to return. I made a reservation well in advance for a night out with a friend. They initially seated us at a table so cramped in by the entrance to the kitchen that they had removed a chair. When we asked if there was anything else the hostess said this or right by the door where it is loud and cold, what did we want. The waiter then joined us saying he understood we were upset. This went on through the evening. We did move tables, it was fine, but all night they kept mentioning that we were upset. We weren't but after a while it was all just boring.
This was our first time at Lyon Hall. My party of four was older than most of the other patrons although we are not senior citizens. It's a crowded and noisy place which detracted from our enjoyment. Three of us had great food, one had the steak special entree which was a disappointment despite the steep price. We all suggest less garlic in the mussels. I'd certainly go again but I might try to pick a less popular time and day, if there is such a thing. I know it's a very hot place right now.
We live about a mile from this GREAT restaurant, and FINALLY got there the other night. Absolutely spectacular experience! Mary was our server - she was fun, professional and VERY knowledgeable. We (mid-40s) brought our two kids (11-year-old twins) and they loved it too. I travel to France often for work, so I get picky about places in the U.S. - this is true Alsatian cuisine done right! Fois Gras parfait was killer. Fried Gnocchi and lentils was a dish I could live on! Duck confit was wonderful. House-made sausages were spectacular!
I have enjoyed my food everytime I come here. It would be a great place for a girls night out or a romantic evening. We had our valentine's day dinner here. The wine list is superb but sometimes the popular wine is sold out because they choose really great wines. Our waitress recommended great wines to go with each course of our Valentine's dinner. We took our toddlers once, it was a disaster. The seating inside was a bit too small to contain them. I think kids 6 and over would be ok.
Food was spectacular and unique. We went for brunch and it was superb -- the lamb sausage was delicious and the poached eggs were perfect. The only thing that was frustrating was the super slow service and the very long wait even though we had a reservation. We got there right on time and they said it would be a 20-minute wait. Isn't the point of a reservation so that you don't have to wait 20 minutes? Despite that, the food was good and really, that's all that matters.
Went for brunch with out-of-town friends. Good atmosphere. My poached eggs with spinach & bacon was perfectly cooked and delicious. My companions opted for an omelette and steak frites. Both raved about their meals. We were there for almost two hours...never felt rushed and had plenty of time to chat and catch up. The wait staff was attentive but not pushy. All in all, we had a very good time.
I used to live in Arlington, but now I live internationally, but often travel back to the area for work, and I always make it a point to come to Lyon Hall when I am in town. I absolutely love this place. The food is great, and so is the staff. There is a very good beer selection. The Spaetzel (spelled?) and cheese plates are my favorites. David, the bar master, is really friendly and always comes to our table to pair a beer with out cheese- it is a special treat!
this was our first visit to lyon hall, with another couple, and we'll be back. the mussles were great, but could use a tad more garlic. the sausage appetizer for 2 was outstanding as were the short ribs.....very flavorful and melt in your mouth good. portions are on the larger size, so order with an eye to a bit of bite sharing. a good selection of european beers that match the alsatian menu and all in all a great night out with friends.
