Roommate going away dinner. Been there at least 4 times and A+ again this time.
The sandwich had a nasty sauce so I asked for napkins to remove it and a new bun. It was like I was asking for a complete refund. The service was poor and the server did not understand my English. I'm not going back.
I liked certain things about the restaurant, and most of the food (great greens!). My wife had the trout, which was excellent; my three sons enjoyed their meals. However, I had schnitzel, which turned out to be pork (I expected veal, but ok, schnitzel is sometimes pork); the breading was hard, and the schnitzel was tough and relatively thick. My fork stuck in the meat, and it took some hard cutting to get it into bite sized pieces. Also, almost immediately after we got our appetizers (after quite a wait, almost a 1/2 hour), the food runners came out with some plates and asked me if I had "pork"; I was puzzled, both because I was not expecting pork and because we didn't expect our main entrees so quickly. (In fact, the food runners had no clue who had ordered what; the waiter should have been there to ensure food was properly placed.) He retreated, but when we got our main dishes 10 minutes later it was clear that my entree had been sitting for a while; it was tepid. Not wanting to make a scene (the rest of my family was enjoying their food), I didn't send it back. The waiter was a nice young lady, but service was spotty. I ordered an espresso at the end of the meal; it came without sugar, a spoon, or a lemon peel, and I had to ask someone else for the sugar and borrow a desert spoon from my son to stir.
On the other side of the ledger, my wife decided to order a glass of wine after we'd already ordered our drinks; I asked the waiter for information about the wines by the glass, and she wasn't too sure about some of the options, but wisely asked for someone else to come to our assistance. My wife was given a choice of a wine, and she liked it very much.
Finally, there was evidently a catered celebration at the bar, which was relatively noisy
-- not a deal breaker, but not something we expected at dinner.
I wanted to like Lyon Hall more than I did; issues with service were annoying, and they ought to do something about the schnitzel.
We couldn't comment on the food because we ended up leaving due to the terrible service. We were seated at a high table as there were running a few minutes behind (no complaints). But then proceeded to watch a couple get seated, brought a drink, bread, and then order their meal while we struggled to get the waiter's attention for 30 minutes with only an empty drink in front of us. The waiter would continually pass us to get to the register and stop to chat with his larger table. The other 2-people tables he had seemed to be struggling just as much to get his attention. After waiting another 10 minutes after telling the hostess we were still waiting to order, we closed our tab for the single round of drinks and left. Wasted over a half hour here and will not be trying again.
The bucket of mussels was very generous! I ordered it as my entree along with the roasted cauliflower. I love both but could not finish them. The mussels would be a great item to split before the main meal arrived and the cauliflower is a great flavorful veggie to split.
Food was great. Service too. Our table of 4 enjoyed everything about the meal.
Came for brunch. The waitress forgot to put our order in. Mediocre brunch took over 2 hours. I also felt uncomfortable that a child (looked to be around 8 or 9) was working the door.
This restaurant was much better when the owner was on site more often. We used to come a couple of times a week. However because it’s gone so far downhill this was our first visit in many months. I don’t see us returning.
Went for brunch with a friend. Their mimosas are $5 can't beat that. Both our meals came with a fresh salad which was nice. Our server was very attentive. Overall would come back for dinner.
Favorite waiter of all time and the food amazing as always
It’s one of my favorite places to go to in the NoVa area!
Enjoyed sitting outside having a glass of wine and a delicious hanger steak meal at our local Lyon Hall. Everything was just right.
Wife and I visited for a date night. Dining area was louder than expected for an early dinner and the seating area was quite cramped, which didn't lend itself to a very romantic evening. Longer than average wait between courses but the food was good. Desserts were less attractive, homey and simply. Unsure if we will return but would still recommend giving it a try.
Great food and wonderful staff. Loved the ceviche. Wonderful mussel pots. A good place to meet friends, take a date or just chill. The food never disappoints. We’ll be back.
Great food and good service. What more could one ask for?
The food and service were disappointing with the notable exception of their breads, which were excellent. I had eaten there previously and had a good dining experience. It appears that the kitchen is inconsistent on its execution. The advertised salmon with zucchini, carrots, and couscous came with a soggy crust and microscopic bits of the aforementioned vegetables. The schnitzel was fairly well cooked but accompanied by overdone and under seasoned potatoes. I am a fan of good sauces and gravies and so I ordered a side of their mushroom sauce. I could not eat it because it was a flavorless butter slop.
Everything from the food, to the service, to the decor was WOW!!! I came here because they can seat larger groups, and we were having a birthday party. The food was amazing... I had the steak tartare and my family had the mussel pots for appetizers. The main entrees and desserts were great too. Everyone remarked about how they were impressed with the restaurant. Definitely will be going back for more of their wonderful French cuisine.
Overall, Lyon Hall is one of the best in NoVa and probably the best restaurant in the Clarendon region. It is a great atmosphere and has a great menu. Prices are reasonable (at least when compared to the area). The Schnitzel is a great choice if you can't decide what to choose on the menu!
Great summer evening al fresco dining. Make a reservation to sit outside!,,
The food was good for what we ordered (appetizers and a salad with drinks). The oysters and pretzels appetizers were good. We did not try any entrees. Service was a bit slow but it was good for us because we don't like to rush.
The mussels were excellent as always. I had the steak frites and wife had the grilled shrimp salad - both great as well. Service was incredibly slow. They may have been short staffed; it took forever before anyone took our order. Still one of our go to's in Clarendon.
Limited menu for lunch.
Food was delicious!
Like a casual French-Belgian bistro, the menu and food excellent. Nice beer list and the shorter wine list has the bases covered with good wines. Waitress was attentive and personable...with what seemed to be a slight French accent. This place will surprise you....
The restaurant was very flexible in modifying the reservation ahead of time, our table was ready when we got there, and the food was very prompt and good. I particularly liked the quiet atmosphere and the French onion soup.
They always rotate great seasonal plates with their classics, we always go for the charcuterie and cheese and Thai mussels
Although the hosts seemed overwhelmed by a sudden crowd, our server was polite, friendly, and checked in with us frequently. Food was fantastic.
Wow. Great food. Good value. We’ll be back!
I ordered an egg sandwich with avocado, but it came with guacamole (which didn’t appear to be fresh). My friend ordered quiche which appeared to have been sitting around for a while and then reheated (was generally tasteless). Service was slow.
The food and service were superb! I had poached eggs over a croissant with avocado and other fixings, along with French press coffee. It was excellent and brought out quickly. Only thing I wish was different was having a bit more space between other guests and our table, but not uncommon around DC so it wasn’t a turn off, and no group was particularly noisy. Great value, I highly recommend this as a brunch spot!
Excellent food as always. Donuts were a hit. Both Benedicts were yummy and the French toast looked great too. Good cocktails and nice atmosphere.
Busy brunch so our server didn’t come by as often as usual, but honestly that was ok since it gave us (6 old friends + 1 baby) a chance to catch up.
They only lose a star because there is a baby changing table in the ladies room, but not the men’s.
We are outside. Noise level was not relevant. We had out of town guests and we enjoyed the experience.
We love this place. Service was attentive, pleasant and professional. House martini was generous and with a decent gin. Two of us had the short rib bourguignon, two the schnitzel, and one the rainbow trout. Each dish was tasty, nice presentation, and generous portion. Two also shared the sorbet and loved the combination of tastes.
We made a reservation and upon arriving they took us to the upstairs which was clearly the dumping ground for people with young children. We had no young children in our party - I love kids, but if I have an opportunity to dine without mine, I don't appreciate being walked by open tables to be stuck in the kid's room. I asked to be moved and they did accommodate.
WE are Arlingtonians, and love having someplace such as Lyon Hall not too far away. Great service, good food. A mite crowded, but not oppressive. My partner doesn't hear so well, so we didn't do a lot of talking, but it was possible. Really delicious food. Super espresso. We are big fans of Lyon Hall, Liberty Tavern, and Northside Social. Also, nearby, Green Pig Bistro and, for a quick lunch or supper, Four Sisters Grill. Lucky us!
Lyon Hall was new to two of us -- we met friends who had been there before. Great Happy Hour... BUT you had to sit in the bar to get it. We had deviled eggs (minus the caviar) and oysters. Eggs were great, oysters were kind of ordinary. $6.00 nice glass of rose was yum! We also had dinner, three of us had the schnitzel and we thought it was delicious! The other one had roasted brusell sprouts, which he thought were delicious. HE also had a headache and the music from the DJ was LOUD AS HECK! We could barely hear ourselves talk. We asked him to turn down the music twice. We asked our waitress also. No dice. So, be forewarned. The place is LOUD even on a Monday night! We liked it, we'll probably be back for the good Happy Hour, but will ask for the most quite place in the restaurant... which may be the basement... which reminds me, that's where the restroom is, so I don't think this place is handicapped accessible.
Met up with some friends to do a quick brunch on Sunday. The server was very attentive, and we didn't have to wait long. I ordered the croque madame, and my friends ordered the steak and eggs and grilled chicken cordon bleu sandwich. We all cleared our plates! Also ordered a cappuccino and a cocktail which were both good quality. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be coming back!
Amazing food, great ambiance & friendly staff. Everything exceeded expectations!
Had a great date with my man! Would recommend. Very good value for money.
The noise level was unbearable, the tables so close it was like they were at you table. Because of the noise people raised their voice to talk. As good as the food was doubt if I return or recommend.
The food was outstanding and the service excellent!
