Lynnhaven Fish House Ratings and Reviews
We were warmly welcomed by the manager when we arrived and received very friendly and expert service. From the calamari to the scallops to the swordfish, all of the food was delicious. The hush puppies were the best that I've had in a long time and were served piping hot with butter. Don't forget to order a piece of the homemade cake. I shared a huge piece of the frosted orange cake with my husband.
I have been dining here on and off since 1996. It's not the number one seafood restaurant that I I have discovered in the states, but it has been consistently good all these years, and thats not an easy thing for a restaurant to maintain.
I had the fried scallops, flounder & fantail shrimp & it was prepared flawlessly. We started with cocktail shrimp and our margarita's we're as good as I make at home.
Were going to miss this place once its gone. Folks, you have till the end of the year to get in before its gone...
Disappointed; been coming to Lynhaven for many years and I can honestly state I'm disappointed with the choices in dinner and it's quality. Many past dishes were eliminated from the menu- not sure why? Started with Oysters Rockefeller, tasted like they were pre cooked and re-heated. Ordered the tuna was told it was a thick cut piece of Ahi, it was delivered as a typical steak portion, thin and over cooked. This was always our go to place when visiting Va Beach, no longer
Hubby and I went to Lynnhaven Fish House for dinner. We thought we might take advantage of VB restaurant week but the menu was not to our liking. We would have preferred more variety. We ordered from regular menu and it was wonderful! We both had snapper and it was exquisite. Our server, Jessey was top notch. She was knowledgeable and friendly. We have a fabulous evening. Oh I neglected to mention how attentive the front of the house staff and Chris ( MGR/owner maybe). Chris visited our table as well as other tables to check in. Great time, recommend.
One of our favorite dining locations for 35 years, the restaurant is a waterfront location specializing in fresh seafood. The menu has changed over the years, but still serves great hush puppies and a good selection of fish prepared a variety of ways with interesting sauces for a modest price and two sides included with the meal. The wine list is OK, but has been slimmed down from previous years. Service is always attentive and efficient. Great views, but the windows need washing.
We enjoyed Mother's Day dinner at the Lynnhaven Fish House, and had a great experience. Dorothy, the manager, was very attentive to our needs, and our server, Jessy, made sure that everything was perfect. The fish, shrimp and crab dishes were delicious. All-in-all a very satisfying meal.
We had an amazing anniversary dinner at Lynnhaven Fish House restaurant. They sat us at a great table by the window with a water view. The waiter was attentive and enthusiastic and the food was amazing. We had a very romantic time and I highly recommend it!
It was good food, but nothing spectacular. I had mentioned in booking that it was a special occasion for us, but I feel like they didn't even pay attention to that kind of detail. I think it would greatly enhance a diner experience if I go to the trouble to say what our special occasion is, doesn't take much effort to make a note next to the reservation in the book and say something to the customer when they arrive. I mentioned it to the waiter we had. He offered dessert on the house, which we declined. We were too full.
Basically, it's a decent seafood restaurant, been around for a very long time. There was certainly nothing wrong with the food, just basic, average seafood.
Views are fantastic....IF you can snag a table by the windows, which we didn't.....
We will probably do somewhere different next time....
While visiting the area I asked a local relative where to have a good, local meal. She recommended Lynnhaven and said that other relatives go there for a nice meal. With that, we made a reservation, then enjoyed a scrumptious dinner. It's not snazzy or trendy but is where locals go to have a good meal, for that special occasion. Our food was excellent, and portions were large. We will be back the next time we visit!
We moved to Virginia Beach a little over a year ago and love trying out new restaurants, particularly seafood places. So following the recommendation of our neighbors we gave Lynnhaven Fish House a try for dinner on 4/22/17.
The good: views from the dinning room area are nice, even if you don't sit immediately near a window you will be able to enjoy water views.
The not-so-good: the food, period. We ordered tuna as "catch of the day", prepared "cajun" and medium-rare. What was served was about the driest tuna we ever tasted, the side dish of a baked potato was first served without butter and it only took ten minutes to finally serve us extra butter. Second dish was Lynnhaven scallops which tasted ok but overall bland and scallops were very small. Third dish was a mix of scallops, crabcake, and shrimp which our two kids shared. They seemed to enjoy all of it and only commented that the food wasn't very warm. In contrast to other reviewers on this site we were unimpressed by the service, at this price point we would expect prompter and more attentive service.
The ugly: the ambiance of the dinning area, or lack thereof. The overall impression is that of a crammed cafeteria, dated decor and furniture, too many tables in too small a space, you will literally rub elbows with your neighbors at the next table. Once served with our entrees our small table for four was jam packed to the point that you had to search for a spot to place your wine glass.
Our take: no reason to repeat this experience. There are plenty of other (better) options to eat seafood in Virginia Beach. Lynnhaven Fish House is clearly at the higher end of the price spectrum with entrees averaging from mid $20 to mid $30 and beyond which simply seems unjustified even when you take the water views into account.
Our past experiences had been nothing short of delectable. Sunday was to be the ultimate delicious culmination of a 45 day fried food fast. Reservations were made earlier to secure our space and by 1:30 our incremental anticipation bordered on diner's euphoria! When we were greeted with the "no fried food" sign, we were devastated! There are simply no words..........
We tried the Lynnhaven Fish House when we were in Virginia Beach for a wedding several years ago. It was great then and didn't disappoint us when we returned in April, 2017. I had the Pick 3 Create Your Own Seafood Platter and chose broiled scallops, broiled shrimp, and fried oysters. I am a seafood snob and I'm frequently disappointed when it is overcooked and rubbery. But the scallops and shrimp were perfectly done and served in butter. The oysters were huge, crispy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside. The hushpuppies were also delicious. Given the generous portion size, we didn't have room for dessert; but we did get a piece of Florida orange cake to eat the next day. It, too, was delicious. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant offers a wonderful view of the Chesapeake Bay. Highly recommended!
On return visit to Va Beach decided to visit old haunts. Enjoyed quiet dinner on a Monday night. The food was fabulous. One of us had fried rockfish and the other had grilled rockfish - both were great. Also had stuffed shrimp which was great also but the hit of the meal were the scallops which were prepared so well - were full of flavor and melted in your mouth.
This is a restaurant that should be visited often.
We have dined here before and have had excellent meals and this was no exception. We took advantage of the Restaurant Week menu and ordered the Atlantic Cod fillet with mashed cauliflower and peppered asparagus. For desert we had chocolate mousse. The meal was exceptional
Had lunch at Lynnhaven Fish House during Virginia Beach Restaurant week and it was delicious and very filling. The She Crab Soup was very good and the hushpuppies were a nice addition to the meal. Service was on spot and the view added a nice bit of ambiance.
