L'ybane Ratings and Reviews
Fun lunch with 5 friends who meet twice a year. Food was delicious - we shared everything and enjoyed it all, from appetizers to main plates to desserts. Waitress was new, so manager helped out. Manager is smart, welcoming and very personable. Waitress was very sweet, just needs a little experience. Great place for pre- or post-theatre, a romantic dinner, or a group event!
While the food was tasty, it was decidedly overpriced. Meeting friends for pre-theater dinner, we decided on the L'Royal selection of 10 "small plate" appetizers for four. Some of the selections, such Tzatziki, were ample portions, however, others were rather skimpy [stuffed grape leaves]. Overall, at $25 per person, it was overpriced and not value for money. In addition, the service was inconsistent.
This place was a quiet respite from frantic 8th Ave. The food was good, better than expected given the bar at street entrance.
We both ordered the Mediterranean plate and split the fattoush salad. There was enough food and variety on the plate, falafel, hummus, merguez, hot eggplant dish. We didn't hang out long as we had show tickets.
I might return again for a pre-theatre quick meal.
The appetizers were outstanding, especially the mousaka. The entrees were very good (and they had great specials that included a glass of wine) except for the mussels which were small, dry and tasteless. I would definitely go back but I'd never order the mussels again.
We only had appetizers/tapas and wine, and all were quite good, but...the white wine was not terribly cold, and that's a big minus for me. And speaking of temperature, the restaurant had its AC going, but doors/windows were wide open. We left sooner than we might have because it was just too warm. I'd certainly try the place again, but I guess I'll have to wait until cooler weather.
We had the tapas and everything we wanted was made to perfection! It was just enough food, we ordered 4 tapas plates for 2 people and we weren't overly stuffed we were pleasantly full and we saved room for dessert which was such a blessing! The dessert was simply amazing we ordered the creme brûlée with the almond tarte and I still have dreams of both. The Coffee was also note worthy! We went to this restaurant on a whim and we are so happy we did! Did not disappoint exactly what we were looking for.
The restaurant was empty at lunch time, and so my friend and I had an easy time conversing. The lunch menu could have been more varied, but the food we ordered was very good. I recommend the mixed grill and would request only lamb although that is my taste. On the other hand, my friend's burger had too much lamb for her taste. The creme brule was out of this world as was the iced tea. A funky place well located for theater goers. Service was very friendly yet inattentive.
We really enjoyed our quiet early Wednesday evening dinner at L'ybane. It was close to our hotel and had good recommendations on OpenTable. We were not disappointed. Because we were new to the restaurant we ordered the 10 appetizer sampler for two. There was a great variety of small plates, with more than enough for two for dinner. More pita was promptly provided upon request. The service was attentive without being overbearing - excellent explanations were provided about each of the ten items. All were vegetarian (not sure if vegan). The Moussaka was outstanding as was the Laban (sp?) (first time ordering). A small area of outdoor/nearly outdoor seating was available, but we sat in the air conditioning near the back. Very comfortable and cozy.
A favorite for pre theatre. If you you enjoy tapas, sharing plates, experiencing lots of different palate pleasing tastes, L'ybane is great. Wine is plentiful and good, and the staff makes sure you are where you need to be on time and without rushing you. Some of their tastes are better than others but it's up to you and we're always ready to return to try something new. The Calimari is tender and delicious and plenty; the vegetarian moussaka is yummy.
We sat a L'ybane for five hours, comfortably. The food is delicious (if a little salty). And the wine list is amazing. They have tons by the glass. Plus, hookah later at night, which was a plus. The whole night was so enjoyable. And they bring pita by the plate-full, which is just a nice touch. The servers were very attentive without being intrusive. They paid attention and were on top of any requests. We'll be back!
This was a pre-theater dinner for 4 friends. That time period of 6pm-7:45pm clearly was when just about everyone was there for a pre-theater meal and the result was unpleasantly loud. I mean really unpleasant. However, if you were a party of 2 people, you then could lean in close and talk - as did the couple next to us. The food was fine; the chicken skewers were dry. The place was clean.
