Loud and cramped. Too many people and not enough space.
We really enjoyed our lunch at LV Mar. We ordered the tapas lunch option which gives you up to 4 different tapas to choose from with 4 price points depending on whether you order 1, 2, 3 or 4 tapas. The only complaint we had was that the waiter didn't warn us that 2 tapas for a normal eater (we were 3 women) would be plenty of food. We ordered 3 each and it was way too much food. The good news is that the portions are generous but the bad news is that we could have shared different plates if we had ordered less food and different from one another rather than all ordering the same 3 from the list.
We had several tasty plates to share among us, and all were well-seasoned and interesting!
Wonderful food and service! The Fundido de Queso, Empanadas de Pollo and Patatas Con Jamon were excellent! I also ordered the Ensalada de Arugula which was good, but the peaches were too overcooked for me. The Carmen Serdana cocktail was also very good!
Getting tapas is always a nice experience, but I'm not sure LV Mar lives up to its price. Our meal for 2 was $150, and I didn't feel that any dish was spectacular.
The food is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The wait staff is attentive but not overbearing. It is a bit pricey but good for a special occasion.
LV Mar is consistently first-rate. The wait staff is fantastic. The food is very delicious and tasty, inventive, and not overly salted. The ambience is warm, inviting, and casual. Two thumbs up.
We had a fantastic time as usual. Really love LV Mar
Took 35 mins to get a drink. Server was MIA. Once food and drink arrived server wanted to know if we needed anything.
Very weak performance. Doubt we will return.
We have actually been twice in the past two weeks. We sat outside for a nice lunch both times. For cocktails we tried the Campo Verde (most ordered), the Mixteca (great smokey mescal) and the ojitoes verde. All were winners. We shared a number of Tapas dishes including the Patatas con Jamon, fundido de queso with chorizo. The skewers of shrimp wrapped in bacon with frisse were outstanding. Dessert was helado de la Casa and an unusual Irish coffee with chocolate whipped cream. Our server Jacqueline was very friendly and understanding of our lack preparedness when we should be studying the menu. This is still our favorite restaurant in Redwood City. You don't find this style and sophistication of presentations anywhere else. We were happy to introduce two new patrons.
Great location in downtown of Redwood City. Lovely meals prepare by great chefs. I enjoy the customer service as well the cleanliness. This is great place to host a business meal.
Took a while to get the cocktails, but the hostess was excellent after that. Food on the spicy side
Wonderful food and great service. The chorizo and octopus tacos were awesome, as was the calamari.
Great choice always. We can always count on LV Mar to be outstanding when guests are in town or for special occasions.
Delicious, innovative Mexican (mainly seafood) cusine with good options for everyone, from spicy food lovers to those with a more sensitive palate. Wait stuff is informed, professional, but also friendly and fun. Nice outdoor seating with heat lamps if necessary. Very vibrant bar. Excellent margaritas. Good place to go for any reason.
Had great tacos of scallop, salmon and pork belly. Cold and hot tapas on menu and great speciality drink menu along with a few beers and wine. Dessert menu too. Not too bad in terms of price. Inside and outdoor seating. Very good all in all.
First time here and what a great find. Service was attentive and friendly. Cocktails were unique and made with care, although a bit pricey for the area. I had the Duraznito (a couple actually!) and my wife the Zona Rosa. Food was equally good- made with care. Cuzuela de Chocoyotes used high quality ingredients and was great. Also loved their take on the carne asada taco. Plato's Furrtes was incredibly tasty and certainly enough for 2. Food prices were reasonable. Will definitely return.
Little gem. Everyone there were welcoming. The drinks are really well made!
Wonderful Latin-American food, friendly staff, pleasant indoor/outdoor setting, good value. Ceviche is a specialty, and their Guacamole is classic excellence. Enjoyable, affordable meal in downtown Redwood City.
This is my second time to LV Mar. The whole experience was excellent. Salmon tacos were to die for. I can’t wait to go back
The food was good but a bit on the pricey side for a $ place. The waitress was super helpful when picking cocktails and was just generally very nice and attentive. The place was a bit empty so it was also easier for the waitress to provide good service. The main highlight of the dinner was actually the nice cocktails over the food even. This one drink with watermelon ice cubes stood out to me in particular.
The food was excellent, and the happy hour pricing was great for afternoon drinks + tapas. The service, although, was lacking. We were there a 4:30 in afternoon and it seemed to take forever for our food & drinks to come out and very difficult to get our server’s attention. Not to mention it seemed like there were several people attending to our table so we weren’t always sure who to even ask to order more food/drinks. Some of the servers were also not very knowledgeable about the menu and happy hour specials.
The noise level isn’t conducive to conversation at all. At our last visit we were seated next to a large group with young children who were quite rambunctious, yelling and bumping into our chairs, while their parents sat at the other end of the table and talked. The food was lovely but overpriced for the amount you get to share. Service was friendly but very slow.
We were lucky enough to be seated in the small back room which was nice and quiet- the main dining area is very loud.
The food was excellent!
Had a great time with friends food and drinks
Terrific as usual. We tried all new dishes as one of our party was a vegetarian. Love their special cocktails.
Super good food!!
We have been here maybe 6-7 times now and I have never been disappointed. We had the beet and pineapple salad and it was incredible. The huitlacoche tacos were divine and I only ate 1 and a half of the pulpo y chorizo tacos because I was so stuffed (but I tried). I had hoped to get some coctel mixto ala La Viga there but it was not on the menu but that did not matter. Had two cocktails that I suspect were a little light on the alcohol but were delicious nevertheless. I am a big fan of LV Mar and its sister La Viga and Redwood City is a better place because of these restaurants.
Overpriced tapas, limited dining choices (3!), no pisco sour drinks? Bar-like noisy ambiance, definitely not for special occasions.
We have been to LV Mar many times and really enjoyed it, on Father's Day it was a big disappointment. Our table was not ready, after being told it would be just a few minutes to clean a table, we waited over 30mn going several time to remind the hostess that we were waiting. They seem to be very short of staff. Nobody was cleaning the tables. When we finally set down, it was hard to find somebody to place an order. It took a very long time for food and drinks to arrive. It might be that the poor service tainted the food experience, but the food did not seem as creative or taste as good as usual. We might give it another try, but this was not great, especially as a Father's Day dinner.
Very busy & loud! But, the food was delicious & attentive waiter & workers! We were celebrating our anniversary & I hope it was a little intimate & not good for celebration!
First time at LV Mar - lunch. Tapas featured inventive ingedient combinations, artistically presented, with wonderful flavours. The beer recommendation - a blonde IPA was the perfect addition. Attentive and friendly service. A great find.
We had an excellent time here! The cocktails were awesome. The ceviche and beet salad were perfect. The tacos were delicious, although the corn tortillas were a bit thicker than I like. The queso fundido was a disappointment, but that is because we are spoiled by Cascal's queso fundido. This place was rather noisy and casual with chairs that were a bit uncomfortable, but I would come back for the food. Also they do not validate parking.
Our reservation was for a hightop table since that was all that was available. It would have been like bar seating across the front window - not good for conversation among a party of four. The other high top seating was more like a community table for 6 or 8 and it was occupied anyhow. Luckily we were able to wait a little longer and got a regular table in the main room.
Tapas are way too small, even for tapas. They are MICRO Tapas!
Great food, creative, fresh tasting food with spices that taste great
The food in LV Mar is out of this world, drinks are tasty and refreshing. We love this place. Did I mention the food was delicious?
Really great menu with a ton of shareable options. I was extremely impressed with the many options.
Lively, casual, fun for a date or groups
Very much enjoyed our dinner. The service was very good and the food delightful. After our meal we were asked if everything was okay. We said yes. Then the manager asked if the service was okay. We again said yes. We never had empty water glasses, the food came out in an orderly manner which is often not the case with tapas restaurants, and every one was very pleasant. We were then told that they were short staffed and he was concerned that it may have cause a problem for us. Let me assure everyone that this place was working like a smooth machine. No complaints at all. Please keep up the great work and the great food. We will be back.
