Lure South Beach Ratings and Reviews
The spicy tuna rolls and tuna TA Taki were fine, as was the deviled egg and the oysters were nice, fresh and not a bad one among two dozen. That all said, when we finished happy hour (almost 2 hours) and realized that what we had would have been approximately twice as much if ordered off the normal menu, that would have been staggeringly excessive and expensive. If I were going back - I would restrict my visit to happy hour.
It is so disappointing that a restaurant that boasts food of this quality should be undercut by such poor service. The elements of a high-end service restaurant are present in the venue, but Lure did not deliver. I believe that the included service charge in lieu of the gratuity as determined by the consumer totally biases the level of service. Such a shame.
We live just a few blocks away and when friends wanted good seafood and nice atmosphere- it was an easy decision- plus we could walk over for our Friday, 8:30 reservation. At 8:55 I found a “manager?” And asked if someone could take a drink order, even he could not find a server so he took the order knowing we were getting impatient- of course no smile or apology. When drinks were brought out they were held up like a prize and announced so we could each claim ours...same held true when appetizers, entrees and desserts were brought over.
I found the manager again later when we wanted to order wine, of course the bottle was placed just out of our reach about 8 feet away and of course no employee walking by noticed our empty glasses or offered to pour, no problem happy to do this ourself. In all I got up 5 times during dinner to find a dining room employee or pour our wine. I also visited the host stand and told them their lack of service was really wreaking our night - she said she would “bubble it up”
It was not that they had it out for us, we watched as other tables searched for a server, or walked to host stand trying to pay their bill. I get that maybe servers called out sick or quit, by when they knew they were over their heads did they continue seating more parties?
Finally 3 hours later our server arrived with a big smile and handed us our check for just over $600 (4 of us) and said desserts are on the house tonight - incredibly still no mention of anything wrong...and of course the bill included an 18% gratuity- in hindsight I should have had the % lowered, but we were so happy to get the hell out we would have paid almost anything. More than anyone I blame the management for our ruined dinner, no apology, no recognition, no knowledge of how to run a room and no one at the door when we left. BTW, when we did leave there was only 1 other table in the restaurant- they had plenty of time apologize ...if they wanted to...no wonder SoBe gets a bad rap.
We went to dinner early to take advantage of happy hour value, but happy hour is only available at the bar, which was full. It took 20+ minutes for my drink to come after ordering. Appetizers had already been served and mostly consumed by then. We had to argue with the waitress to get something other than American cheese on the burger. Our silverware was cleared with the appetizers and not replaced until after the entrees were served and we could find the waitress to ask for replacements. The side we ordered (lobster Mac and cheese) was served late and was not worth the price. The only positive part of the experience was the attitude of the waitress who remained upbeat and friendly even though I am sure she could sense our annoyance. It was only her friendliness that kept me from complaining about the automatic 20% gratuity that was added to the bill for a much less than satisfying dining experience.
Food was simply wonderful, fresh, creative, and refined. The service however is what set this restaurant apart. Subtlety attentive to every detail. On par with the best NYC and Parisian establishments.
Other reviews have commented on price. We found the experience to be worth the price, but know you are entering an upscale restaurant.
The food is well prepared and menu tends to be heavy with sushi items with limited cooked fish items. The night I was there the restaurant had several large table groups close to each other and the noise was deafening at the smaller surrounding tables. I have no problem with an energetic noisy place but food is not enjoyable with packed groups.
Very disappointing. Food had no taste. Service was not up to fine dining at all. Our wine was placed in a shared bucket and waiter didn’t remember which bottle was ours. For the prices you charge your service and food should be top shelf. We will not return.
Great meal and good service. Large room, feels formal, not too inviting. Lure in NYC is cozier and has a more inviting atmosphere. Our server was very helpful and friendly. We had a seafood plate to share and grilled octopus. Seafood was terrific, grilled octopus too spicy, spice overwhelmed the octopus. We then had grilled scallops and the lobster roll. Both of these dishes were excellent. Expensive meal but generally worth it.
Absolute disaster. Food took over an hour to arrive to table, with no communication from server or the GM Sam. We ordered sushi (45 minutes later????) and I had to reach out to kitchen to see status. GM Sam said “we could talk about it later”, and laughed when I asked what could be done to fix it. Made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Food was decent, nothing special.
The food and atmosphere were excellent by the entire evening was ruined when we were charged full price for Happy Hour Cocktails on the basis that we didn’t procure at the bar. There were no seats available at the bar and nobody that this would be the case. The staff flatly and forthrightly refused to entertain the position. Not what one expects from a hotel restaurant of this calibre!
We ate here a couple years ago the last time we were in Sobe, and decided to come back. The food was good, particularly the whole fish, grilled king crab and stone crab. However, $30 for a single stone crab claw is bordering on the absurd. The key lime pie was awesome, but the molten-chocolate cake wasn’t very molten. Service was very professional, but our waiter could have been a little more personable.
If you want a special place to eat and don’t mind dropping a bill per person, Lure is a good choice.
Gourmet prices, but not gourmet flavor in all dishes. I normally enjoy branzino very much, but this presentation was rather flavorless and the fennel was under-cooked and tough. Overall disappointing, although it's was lovely to sit on the patio in the evening in December.
We come here every year - food is always good - sometimes a bit rushed - like this time even though it was unusually empty in high season. If we had not asked not to serve
the maincourse immediately after the starter we would have been in an out in 45 minutes 400 dollars later - make sure you tell them you don’t want the fast food service! Great ambience and good (if not great) food and patchy but good service. A must in South Beach.
The server was very aggressive and was quite rude. He suggested that we didn’t order enough food, even though we spent well over $200 on a dinner for two. Coupled with the poor service, we felt like the amount of shellfish on the royal seafood platter made the meal a poor value. Having been to another Lure, which we had fond memories of, we were disappointed by our experience. We will not be back unfortunately.
Went on a recent Saturday evening at 6:30. Restaurant was not busy. Outdoor seating was nice; however, service not great. Took over an hour between service of appetizers and main course. Staff appeared untrained. Although they were apologetic and the manager comped one appetizer (I didn't ask for it to be comped), it would have been nice to have been warned that kitchen was either understaffed or running way behind, especially because we had two children with us. Perhaps it was just an off night, but I was underwhelmed.
My husband and I were staying at the Loews, so we decided to try Lure. We had a delicious meal. Having Celiac, I am always nervous eating at restaurants. Our waitress, Christina was great and very familiar with my food needs. Not only was my meal yummy, but I did not get sick!
