Lupo Restaurant & Vinoteca Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic food!!! Expensive, but you get what you pay for most times. We went there because it was rated as one of Vancouver’s most romantic restaurants, but I would say that’s not how we felt. There was track lighting everywhere, quite bright. Dimming would have helped, but then maybe servers couldn’t see. It was way too bright to be romantic. No visible fireplace from where we sat. Great food as I said, but if you are looking for romantic, not good for that in my opinion.
We had an absolutely great dinner at Lupo. We are from out of town and were not familiar with the restaurant when we decided to go. The restaurant is set in a beautiful restored house and the service is exceptional. I had the romaine salad and the Nero pasta with lobster and shrimp. We would definitely return to this gem.
I came here for everyday dining with a friend. I love the setting and quiet atmosphere of this restaurant. The freshly baked focaccia was amazing. The rack of lamb was also very tender and juicy. The special black truffle fettuccine of the night however was more greasy than tasty...
We chose this restaurant because it's a 2-block walk from the QE Theatre, and it's Italian after all :). It's in a renovated heritage home, and the ambience was quiet and welcoming - we sat on the second floor in the front. There are good options for gluten-free people and the kitchen seems flexible. For example, they have a great gluten free pasta you can substitute for $4 - it's well worth it because the GF pasta has the taste and feel of being home-made - maybe it is? Try the wild mushroom taglieri. The bufala salad was gorgeous and tasty and the creme brulee was a wonderful finish. My partner told me the caesar salad was the "best he had ever had" and this man knows what he is talking about! Go there soon, or at least go there before or after a show at the QE - you will not be disappointed.
We went for dinner to celebrate Valentines Day early. Although surrounded by skyscrapers, the restaurant is in a 2-story home. The staff was great, very knowledgeable. I had the veal, and I guess my wife did too, because it sure felt like she kept asking me for more! She had the lamb shank, which I also thought was amazing, but the veal stole the show. Tiramisu for dessert was the perfect ending. We will definitely return if we come back to Vancouver.
Birthday dinner for me—with my wife, son and cousin. Service and cuisine were superior. This restaurant has been great for many years, and it is better now than ever. Most notable this time was the excellence of the staff who made certain all was superb for us....and, the quality of the salmon and veal osso buco entrees was the very highest.
My friend and I came after work, there was no parking around so we had to walk over in the pouring rain. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the host and he offered to take our coats. He looked like he’s disgusted when he had to hold our wet coats...and when I told him my friend’s scarf was on the floor as he was sorting the coats out, he just said ‘oh, sorry’ and nope he didn’t sound sorry at all. They were discussing quietly on which table they should put us..and the way they did it was really weird imo.
The food was decent for its price. Foie gras was nice. Lamb rack was exactly medium rare. The duck was a little dry but still flavourful. But I couldn’t really enjoy the food because of the service was not so great. I‘ve never written negative comments about a restaurant before. But they really made me feel uncomfortable. Yes, Lupo was busy, but they rarely checked on us. We did not get our water refilled..not even once.
I’m just really disappointed especially when I read their online comments and they are like ‘Lupo has great & attentive service’..and comparing it to the service we received? Gasp.
The service was very attentive and friendly. Great ambience - loved all the smaller spaces, helped it feel intimate. The food was disappointing for the price; I was hoping for a surprise combination and something to really tickle my tastebuds and to be honest it was a bit bland and unimaginative. We both felt it wasn't fine dining and whilst perfectly edible wasn't worth the fine dining price tag.
We were looking forward to dinner at Lupo, as we have eaten there many times but were disappointed with the experience this time. The Osso buco was dry & on the stringy side and the sauce lacked depth. My dining partner had the tenderloin which was tender, but lacked flavour. The service was fine, everything was served timely & the staff was polite. However, it was my husband’s birthday and there was no acknowledgement of the occasion.
We came to celebrate our anniversary and let me say, we were not disappointed at all! We were seated at the window overlooking Robson street and thus, were away from the main dining area. Our server Christina, was very gracious and knowledgeable when we asked for recommendations as it was our first time. She steered us down the right path as we thoroughly enjoyed our beautifully prepared dinner. We will definitely return for our next special occasion meal.
A slightly off night--usually excellent pastas but a bit of a disappointment on this visit. (Pasta chef was apparently on holidays.) Best was the fettucine with black truffles. Meat/fish courses were well prepared and beautifully presented. Classic Italian fare. Very good wine list with a large selection of Italian wines. Excellent service. Beautiful room, but a bit loud.
