About Lupa Trattoria
Situated in the congenial San Francisco neighborhood of Noe Valley, Lupa is a classic Italian trattoria with comfortable neighborhood charm, affordable prices, and destination-caliber cuisine. Using the best available local ingredients, Chef Stefano Coppola creates a seasonal menu featuring classic dishes from his home in Rome.
The menu is based on the Italian tradition of preparing food - combining simplicity with the best ingredients of the season, including quality olive oil, locally grown local vegetables and fruits, and seasonal specials of seafood, poultry, meat and game. Our bread and pastas - gnocchi, tagliatelli, parpardelle, linguini, tortelloni, and ravioli are homemade on premise.
In addition to the regular menu, our specials menu features different soups, antipasti, pastas, and main courses.
Beyond a passion for authentic Roman cuisine, our friendly Italian staff work from their hearts to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable.

Lupa Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
We had a very nice meal at Lupa. We recently returned from two weeks in Italy, so we have some idea what real Italian food is supposed to taste like, and Lupa fit the bill. Only complaint is the tables are jammed very close together and the noise level was pretty high, but the food and service were both top-notch.
Fantastic authentic Italian food in the Roman style. Better than Nonna's paata. Friendly, knowledgeable staff . After a couple of visits you feel like family. From the moment you walk in the door Alex greets you like a long lost cousin. Generous portions of perfectly prepared food.
We happened on this while looking for something near to us. Loved it!
We ate from the Daily Specials menu and could not decide so we split our dinners (sharing plates). The food was divine; from a zucchini soup, a lovely salad, a sausage risotto that was smooth and creamy and an eggplant and orecchiette dish with a bright tomato (tight) sauce. We were not left wanting and it did not break our wallets. :)
The staff was very attentive and the place was quiet, we were in early.
We'll be back!
Not having visited Lupa for over a decade, it was nice to see the ambience unchanged. The specials of the day included a very tasty risotto, which I had, and two pasta dishes enjoyed by my friends. They split a Caesar salad and I had a mound of lettuce to start. The wine my friend chose was lovely. This is a homey place, with an open kitchen. The décor is not impressive, but when food and company are so good, who minds?
The food was delicious, but the service was spotty. We ended up canceling an appetizer because our dinner salads came out first, even though we'd ordered the appetizer 30 minutes before we ordered dinner. Our waiter was not exactly inattentive, but most of the time we had to flag him down to get drinks refilled. We will give the place another try, as the food was very good.
For the Mellinnial, this is not an overpriced, overcocktailed, instagram food (little bite served on a spoon with a shaving of seaweed flown in from the Great Barrier Reef) but you could widen your range here. This is a real Italian trattoria with consistently greatd traditional Northern Italian food. The wine list leans Italian with great choices. The pasta is home made just like Nona made. The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is of a friendly neighborhood Italian restaurant. Children are welcome and apprieciated. For you foodies that are hooked on precious food try a little home cooking.
We are visiting from out of town and wanted a good Italian meal. With so many restaurants to choose from, it was a difficult decision. We wanted to explore Noe Valley, so we took a chance on a smaller local restaurant. So glad we did! We had a wonderful meal and the pasta was delicious. The restaurant, staff and service was excellent. We can't wait to go back!
