Lungomare Ratings and Reviews
Really enjoyed my first dining experience at Lungomare. The ambiance and server handled us well. We were a party of 6, so it was great to have a restaurant tend to our individual needs and allow us time to socialize before eating. The food was more than I expected, especially the bolognese. We ordered the crispy calamari as appetizers and a mix of sorbet and gelato as desserts. Thanks for the awesome service and dining experience!
Our server was very friendly but the service was very spotty. We requested drinks and had to ask twice. We requested catsup and had to ask 3 times. No one stopped by to ask how things were going or if they could refill our coffee cups. The food was mediocre but the restaurant was nice. I don't see going back.
$27 for a half carafe of wine, $40-$50 for a bottle. Nothing reasonably priced. If you do not want to take out a second mortgage to have wine or drinks with dinner, find another spot. The food was decent but nothing that you couldn't find at a place with a reasonable wine list.
The food was amazing. It was 9 of us for my dads 81st birthday. We had most of the appetizers, almost all of the entrees, and most of the desserts. Each one was better than the last. My favorites were the calamari and octopus, (couldn’t decide which was better) the scallops were done perfectly, and the chocolate budino!!! The waiter was great, telling my wife who can’t have dairy exactly what she could eat and what she couldn’t without her having to ask. The restaurant made an amazing family meal flawless! Thank you.
Four of us had dinner here prior to attending a show at the Fox. We had 5:45pm reservations and were seated immediately at a nice table with a water view next to the window. There was a good selection of both wines and beer so everyone in our party was happy. The food was delicious! I had a prosciutto pizza with arugula on top; the crust was thin and crispy and I could have easily shared it. My husband had some sort of baked pasta dish with rabbit; also delicious and well seasoned. My son had the aged New York steak and it was extremely tender and tasty. We were finished in time to make it to the theater on time, but we did not feel as though we had been rushed. We will definitely return!
This is our favorite restaurant at Jack London Square. Food is always consistently excellent. We often take visitors from out of town here and then wander down to the First and Last Saloon afterwards. Our meals this night were all excellent, portions good. I had a sea bass on special and it was one of the best meals I have had in a long, long time. It was seasoned beautifully, moist and flavorful and the vegetables served with it were perfect. My husband had the squid ink pasta (which he always has) and raved about it as well.
We revisited Lungomare after reading a pretty good review in the newspaper recently. We were disappointed. We all ordered salads. My garden salad was incredibly salty. The waiter asked, I told him so, it was quickly replaced. We noticed that everyone else had bread, we had to ask for some. The wait for our entrees was excessive, we had to ask where they were and only then were they brought out. I ordered the Torchio pasta, the others ordered seafood stew. Theirs was fine, mine must have been sitting out because it was barely warm. I decided to write it off as a bad experience and did not complain about the pasta. We ordered dessert and once again had to wait much too long, then asked where it was and it appeared. One person put her empty wine glass out for a very long time before anyone asked her if she'd like another. It seemed as if there were 3-4 people responsible for our table but it was totally uncoordinated. Food was great, service was abysmal. Sitting out on the patio was a treat. Unlikely we'll ever go back if this level of service is ok with management.
After reading the yelp reviews with most giving a 4-5 star rating... Overall I found the food was good, ambiance was nice but, outside patio was small and can be noisy at times. The dinner menu was a bit limited and the service was outstanding. I recommend to bring your own bottle of wine, reasonable corkage fee.
Our visit to Lungomare was memorable. We sat outdoors and felt comfortable because the heat lamps are strong. We had excellent service from Jorge, who walked us through the specials, the menu and made recommendations. We started with the Frita Mixta which was a combination of delicately battered and fried seafood and the Watermelon/Heirloom salad. Both had some nuance--the salad with a touch of lime and the seafood, a little spice. For entrees, our table had the excellent scallops--very meaty and tender; the rib-eye, generous and perfectly done. One diner felt the ravioli was dry. I was the driver, so didn't try the cocktails, but was told, it was the best margarita ever (excellent tequila) and the choice of gin pleased one diner who is ultra particular about her martinis.
We stayed a long time, about two and a half hours and had excellent but not suffocating service. This was a great surprise because it was a return trip after a not-so-successful visit several years agol We'll be back.
Met a good friend for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. We could not have picked a better weather day to sit outside. Overall, the service stands out - we had a very attentive server, the food was fresh, local and delicious. We split the argula salad and a pizza. Portions were perfect. We will both be back. Thank you!
Probably a great place for happy hour. Outdoor seating was great. The non alcoholic sodas and coffees were excellent The best thing we ordered was the prosciutto, melon and cheese plate. Don't come here if you have a limited amount of time. Service is kind of slow.
The food was full of love and intent. It was a beautiful evening of outdoor dining. The house made olives were superb with a wonderful texture that complimented the great wine selection. The service was on point and perfectly timed to accommodate the pace of our relaxed evening. I'm so glad I saved room for dessert. Oh my god the chocolate cake made me cry a little and I left with a smile on my face.
Very good greens salad and raviolis. The mushroom pizza was bland. We had delays with acknowledging us, taking our order, delivering the food, getting a second round of drinks, and getting the check. Essentially, every step along the way. There were multiple people taking our order and delivering he food. All of this resulted in fragmented service.
Our server was excellent. Made fantastic suggestions, checked on us frequently but didn't hover, and was extremely friendly. We sat on the patio which was great for a late summer evening. We went in the middle of the week so it wasn't crowded. The only thing minor interruption was the Amtrak, but you can't help that. Great food- the seafood stew and squid ink pasta were delicious!
We eat at Lungmare rather often. We occasionally take advantage of the "Wine down" dinners on Sundays. However, this past Sunday, after making a reservation, we waited 20 minutes for a table. It was rather cool outside and upon arriving asked if it was warm enough to sit outside & if not, we were happy to sit inside. We were seated outside and although there were heaters, we were seated away from the available heaters. We asked if the heaters were on & were told yes. But, not offered to move to a warmer table. We did ask to move & were able to. My only real complaint is the initial arrival was not met with much professionalism. "1st impressions are lasting impressions" The people that are at the podium to meet guests as they arrive are less interested in making a good experience than what I would expect. Not very welcoming and not very concerned with your wishes. The bar area can be "lively" and the drinks are good. But, it was really too loud, thanks to a couple customers that were not ever taught to use their "inside voices" in a restaurant. It would have been ok for the bar tender to ask them to hold it down a little... We have always had good to great waiters & the food is quite good. But, if this were our first time at Lungomare, I think it would be our last. I'll give it another try in hopes that the first impression improves. Otherwise, there are too many other really good choices in Alameda and Oakland.
We ordered the Summer Dinner special @ $30 with a bottomless wineglass. It took over 45 minutes from ordering until we got our first glass. Luckily for the second glass, the waiter got them as soon as requested. Perhaps the barman is deliberately slow so one doesn't drink too much of the good stuff?
For a restaurant that popped up in so many places as a good option in Jack London Square, our group was surprised at how badly-prepared the food was. Two of our group thought their dishes were okay (just okay, mind you), but in my case, the pesto pasta was quite oversalted and otherwise not that flavorful. The real astonishment for me was the tomato soup. I've had Campbell's soup from a can, and this was literally the flavor of Campbell's soup from a can. Appalling. Two more of our group complained that the pizza was bad. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone, except in the meaning of "stay away from".
The food was good, but the service was horribly slow (our server was nice enough). It was extraordinarily hot and the restaurant's A/C wasn't capable of keeping up with heat like that. That's not their fault, but it shouldn't take 45 min between courses. If your patrons are sweating, a 3.5 HR meal is far too long.
The staff is very pleasant. There was plenty of room on a Wednesday night at 7:15. We would have sat outside but there was a loud rock band across the way, so we chose the inside -- which has just as nice a water view. My husband and I each had the soup of the day, wild mushroom, potato and fava beans. The flavor was very good, but it was over-salted. The waiter brought the soup almost immediately after bringing the cocktails. I had a salad which was fine, but nothing special. My husband had squid pasta with mussels, clams, and squid. It was tasty but again, overly salted. It was a pleasant evening, but there are so many better places to go, I can't recommend it.
The food was good however the service was horrible. They must have been short staffed on Sunday 8/20 at 1pm because the service was extremely slow and inconsistent. The waiter seemed overwhelmed and the management team jumped into assist but this did not help - an example was that I asked for a glass of water during my meal and it was not brought to the table until we received our bill and the waiter asked if I received my water. It's unfortunate that a restaurant in a high traffic area like Jack London Square could not deliver better service.
