Luna Rossa Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
I have been here many times. The food always ranges from very good to excellent. It is modestly higher priced than other local Italian restaurants, but more than worth it. The service is generally good to very good and friendly. It is my favorite neighborhood go-to place.
Is there a new chef at Luna Rossa? The caesar salad was not good. Caesar salad has nice big pieces of romaine lettuce. At Luna Ross's it was lettuce chopped up into small pieces and tasted like iceberg lettuce. The Caesar dressing was watery and flaverless. A disappointment and not a real Caesar salad. Service was good.
Luna Rossa has been a favorite of mine since it first opened. The food is excellent and there are so many wonderful choices on the expansive menu! I am thrilled that the restaurant is doing so very well. It is a great place to bring friends or out of town guests. They are always delighted.
Shhh... Keep this place a secret! I have hosted several business and casual dinners here over the last year and the food and service and always been superb. Last week I hosted a family get-together and the staff went over and beyond to accommodate us. They let us socialize outside on a beautiful evening for an hour - holding up our table - without complaint. I pre-ordered our menu with the friendly help of Hector, and the service was perfect. Bringing out our four courses at the requested slow pace allowed us an evening of great conversations and laughter without ever feeling rushed. We closed the restaurant after midnight on a Thursday night with the rest of the patrons long gone. A perfect evening. Many, many thanks to the kind, attentive and patient staff, as well as to the amazing kitchen crew!!
This was a great finish to a long busy day. Food, Drinks, Service all terrific! Tagliollini with shaved black truffle and Carppaccio with baby arugula superb. Fig gnocci in black truffle cheese sauce sublime! Requested off menu chicken parmesan was accomodated effortlessly and perfect. Desserts need some improvement. Interestingly, half of the group live within blocks of Luna Rossa and had never been to the restaurant. They were thrilled to find that they will be able to now place it on there neighborhood gem restaurants!
We NEEDED this wonderful dinner tonight. I tried a wine, new to me, loved it. Everything we've ever had here is perfectly composed and seasoned to bring out the flavors but never be assertive or salty. very European quiet dining room, live the waitstaff - 5 stars all around.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Luna Rosa. We were welcomed and seated promptly even though we were a little early for our reservation. Our dinners were delicious. I had parmesan encrusted chicken beast again even though I've ordered it three times before. It is that good. My husband had a steak which he enjoyed very much. We will return to Luna Rosa and recommended to friends.
This restaurant has the authenticity of the best local Rome restaurants. Its Vitello Tonnato is as good as Cipriani's and otherwise unrivaled by any NY restaurant and, unlike most, is on the menu year round. The pasta dishes are exceptional. Our waiter was Massimo: charming, attentive, knows his wines--an accomplished professional. I live on the far westside and gladly travel across town for this exceptionally fine Italian cuisine. The restaurant is small, intimate, comfortable. Its staff, as good as it gets. Bravo.
Second visit. A remarkable chef does wonderous things in the kitchen. Fresh ingredients. One of those great mid block UES finds. Consistently fine wait staff. Small wine list but nice range and selection. Reserved a specific table 4 on line but restaurant didn't have it. Next time will call the restaurant directly. A wonderful place.
First date with a real gentleman. Perfect spot. The waiter was attentive but let us enjoy the dining experience. The food was perfect! Wonderful fish and pasta dishes. It's not easy to find an old fashioned but cool dining room where it is quiet. You can have a real conversation here. Enjoy the food and ambiance of this neighborhood gem!
My favorite Italian on the UES. The food is consistently delicious, authentic, and al-dente. The servers are amazingly nice, knowledgeable, and care about your experience. It's a small restaurant with a slightly older crowd, so probably best for taking your parents or for couples . The delivery is great too.
Ordered the special of the night. Swordfish clams, muscles etc. This was a delicious dish but the swordfish was very overcooked. I left it on the plate and when the waiter came over I told him the problem. The chef automatically cut this bill by 50%. I never asked for this but think it indicative of a really "classy" establishment. I have been there many times and I will definitely return!
The Northern Italian food here is a cut above most in NY. More like Milan, both in menu choices and preparation. The vitello tonato is fabulous. We had artichokes prepared in a salad but warm, a special that was special. All the food is exceptional.
Our waiter was not as attentive as in the past, but the rest of the staff was great. I think this guy had something else on his mind. On another visit the service was fine.
My one overall problem is the wine list. It's exorbitant. And the $18 glass I had wasn't even good - obviously the bottom of the bottle, and sediment in my glass. I should have returned it, but didn't bother. Food prices are very reasonable. But the wine.... it's very annoying. I know the restaurants need to mark it up a bit, but there's no excuse for the rates here. That said, I will return again and again just to feel like I'm in Milan.
This is an excellent Italian neighborhood restaurant. The food is always of high quality--fresh and tasty. Excellent menu. The service is generally good. We have dined here with friends and with relatives. When we go with our sons and grandkids, we sit at the large table in the back as we can be 6-11 people. This suits our group very well and is generally quieter than the front.
On Saturday, April 15, 2017, my wife and I had dinner there. We like this place. The food is excellent. As an appetizer, I had the crispy artichokes fried in olive oil, mint and garlic. For her appetizer, my wife had the octopus, which was a special dish. We both had the Dorado, which was a special dish. It was very fresh and was filleted. For dessert, I had a pastry. The service was very good. We take our friends there.
