Luna Blu Ratings and Reviews
We are fans of this spot in Annapolis in the biggest way. We have never had a sub-par or underwhelming meal!
We started out dinner with the baked Brie wrapped in a pastry shell on a bed of baby spinach with balsamic vinegar soaked strawberries. Totally awesome and worth the 15 minute wait! While waiting, we were served fresh baked bread and a spicy olive oil for dipping.
My entree’, veal piccata was done in the classic style of butter lemon and capers. Veal was very tender and not over floured. Very very good.
My wife had the tri color tortilini with Italian sausage, tomatoes mushrooms and a Romano cheese sauce. Absolutely delicious!
We each chose the featured wines, an Italian Pinot Grigio and the Spanish Pinot noir. Both were reasonable priced and excellent choices. Hard to find a good 8 or 9 dollar glass or wine!
Our dessert was a classic Luna Blu creation; terimisu. Luna Blu serves theirs with a sprinkling of cocoa powder that complements the entire dish.
Can’t wait to go back and try some of the other dishes-like the rockfish or shrimp scampi.
Luna Blu is one of my all time favorites in the Annapolis area. The food is always amazing! I have eaten here frequently and have never had a bad meal! I love that the restaurant is very small, intimate and welcoming. The staff is amazing! I have always been greeted with smiles and professionalism. I would recommend this gem to all!
We ate here a few years ago and had a bad experience, so had avoided it even though it’s across from Rams Head on Stage, where we go often. Decided to try again, but sadly had problems. The good news is the Restaurant is cute (but small and cramped, which also made it noisy) and their price fixe four course menu is a deal at $38. The problem was food preparation. My scallops appetizer was a mixed bag, nicely seared scallops piping hot over a hardened bed of cold polenta. The house salad had fresh greens but what tasted like a commercial Italian dressing. Simple oil and vinegar would have been better. Rolls were nothing special, not worth the carbs. My husband raved about his veal Chesapeake, which came hot and well prepared. My veal d’aosta was Lukewarm with concealed fontina on top of decent prosciutto. The veal would have been fine if served hot. It sat alongside angelhair pasta premixed with a bland marinara ... the pasta was extremely hot but I had to ask three times for grated cheese, and the pasta was also cold by the time it was delivered. My husband cleaned the plate on tiramisu for dessert. I had chocolate mousse, which was ok but on the heavy side and I didn’t finish it. So, a C grade overall. We did raise concerns, first with the waitress, and then the owner came over. No apologies, just the excuse that four courses takes a long time (which was odd since we didn’t complain about the length of the meal).
We had a wonderful staff meal for 8 on a quiet night. It was almost private dining! We had eaten here before a staff event last year and everyone asked to go back before this year's event. Food was great, service terrific, great wine selection. Most the staff lives in DC and commented on the affordable prices are for such good food. They are talking about coming back on their own. Love the pasta dishes and seafood choices.
Even though there were two large parties and only two tables left for reservations, the food and service was still just as amazing as ever. I recommend Luna Blu to anyone that's looking for great Italian food in the area. I've never been disappointed and always feel welcome as soon as I walk in the door. Hoping to make it back for the Chocolate and Wine Pairing event in December!
Erin and her kitchen and wait staff at Luna Blu never disappoint. They turn out delicious, fresh, made to order classic and updated Italian food that is beautiful and satisfying. I eat vegan with a serious food allergy to mammal meat and Luna Blu is one of the places I go to feel completely trusting of and safe with the kitchen. That's huge for me. In addition, Erin will cook any combination of her ingredients in your customized dish - especially pasta - again, a treat. I highly recommend you check out Luna Blu and also their monthly wine tasting events that support various charities. Enjoy!
We ate here while at the sailboat show. Enjoyed a delicious meal, in a relaxing atmosphere.
I have to make special mention of our server, Caitlin (?). She is an absolute gem, a very pleasant young lady whose service and suggestions made our dining experience that much more pleasurable.
My wife and I would definitely visit again when we are in the Annapolis area.
We took advantage of a Groupon offer to visit Luna Blu. As per the terms of the deal, we were supposed to tell our server we had a Groupon. We did that and our server, John, immediately turned away and said, "I'll get the Groupon menu." He returned with menus that applied to the Groupon. It was a pared-down version of their regular menu. No where on the Groupon did it state that we we would have to order from a special menu.
By the reaction we got from John and by the tone of his voice, it seemed like he was thinking, "Here comes some cheapskates with a Groupon."
When he came back to the table with our drinks, he asked if we were ready to order. We decided to order an Antipasto della Casa. He acted surprised that we would want something in addition to what the Groupon offer was.
By the time, an additional server came on shift. I heard her mention to her tables that they had a salad special that evening. John never told us about it. Why would he? We weren't going to order anything besides the Groupon deal, right, John?
We did enjoy the rest of our meal. My wife had the baramundi and I had a fettucini dish. It wasn't what I would have ordered, but my selection wasn't part of their Groupon menu.
We also received two glasses of wine with the offer. It was a choice between pinot grigio or pinot noir.
There was also some sketchy stuff when it came time to pay our bill. When John first brought it over, there was a charge for $75 for "Groupon dinner." I mentioned it to him and he deducted it while standing at the table, while offering a haphazard apology. I gave him my credit card and when he brought back the bill for me to sign, the amount was $75, not the $56 it should have been. Another apology and back to go fix it. He got it right the third time. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but after his attitude from the start, part of me thinks he was trying to sneak something by me.
I doubt we'll be visiting any time in the near future.
The calamari at Luna Blu is quite different from the norm. It is not covered with breading and served in a bowl full of a wonderfully spicy red sauce. All of the entrees were of adequate size and delicious. Even the Greek Salad with chicken was enough for a meal. I highly recommend this restaurant as an alternative to the mediocre food now served at the Ramshead and we love going there prior to performances at Ramshead on Stage, just across the street. There is a great deal on a four course meal if you have the time and some nights there is wine at 1/2 price.
I've been here several times and always enjoyed the food and service. We usually use a Groupon. We did notice at this visit that some of the entrées were taken off of the Groupon list. Also they changed the dinnerware to smaller bowls. The amount of food is probably the same but it didn't look as impressive as it did the first couple times when they were served in Bowls with the large rims. I know it seems like a small thing, it just wasn't as impressive. Overall a great place for lunch
