The early-evening three-course tasting dinner is an excellent value, particularly for those attending the Santa Fe Opera and hoping to arrive at the opera house in time for the pre-opera lecture. Parking is a challenge in downtown Santa Fe, so a big attraction is the valet parking (the restaurant will validate your ticket).
Wonderful dining experience. Presentation of food very good. The paella was great, lots of seafood but less rice than I am used to. That was strange. But the seafood was excellent, so did not miss all the rice. It was raining in Santa Fe in the evenings, and it looked like rain that night. We were advised to sit indoors. Unfortunately it did not rain so we missed our chance to dine al fresco. I really liked the looks of the outdoor dining area, bummer. But the dining room is elegant and quiet, you can hear your friends talk, important to me. The light fixture over the table was a problem, it was too close to the person sitting opposite from me.
We had high expectations due to many reviews. My mozzarella salad was disappointing--the cheese
was not "fresh" as advertised and the pairing with red chili pepper dressing was not to my taste. However
my tofu entree with vegetables and grains as very good. My husband had the shortrib enchiladas and
said they were very good, as well. Very solid, just not outstanding.
Christoph the bartender was fabulous. He makes some wonderful and unique martinis--sage, Serrano chili, and more. Treated us very well. The setting was beautiful on the patio. The food was disappointing. It was way overdone so the flavors of the meat and fish are lost. Our food service was hot and cold. I believe she had tables indoor as well and long periods of time she was no where to be found.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and the server made it special with rose petals on the table and champagne . The food was excellent and the atmosphere romantic. We had a wonderful experience.
We enjoyed sitting out on the patio but we weren't aware that you could apparently make reservations under a covered area. While it turned out okay, we were concerned that it could rain as the skies were threatening. We were also somewhat annoyed as most other diners were given an amuse bouche and we weren't. Out server was paying more attention to the other tables and we barely saw her after giving our order. The meal was good but not outstanding.
Excellent location and atmosphere. Very good food, both quality and presentation, service only adequate.
The setting is beautiful, and the restaurant is very good for breakfast and lunch. However, the meal we had at dinner was mediocre. The service was acceptable, but barely so. The waiter seemed hurried and inattentive. I had a chicken dish that was not very good. My date had a sea bass dish that was somewhat bland. The Tortilla soup was very good.
food too spicey; they carry one sauvignon blanc and were out of it; cookie stale; polenta
lasagna was terrible. Beautiful place and really mediocre restaurant.
Wonderful meal in a beautiful setting - who could ask for more?
I have been coming to Santa Fe for 16 of the past 17 summers and only wandered upon this gem on Open Table as I needed to have a reservation because I had to be somewhere and wanted to ensure I didn't wait. I chose Luminaria. Wow, what a gem that I have now discovered for my future summer visits to Santa Fe.
great service and great food will recommend
Luminaria is a shining light among a sea of good restaurants. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It is moderately priced and well worth it for excellent, food, ambiance and service! The Patio in the summer is extra special with wonderful views of the setting sun and a beautiful fireplace after sunset.
I recently celebrated my 50th birthday there with a friend and I could not have chosen a better location. The food was outstanding and all aspect of server were of the caliber of a five star restaurant. I would highly recommend.
We enjoyed several lunches & a dinner @ Luminaria Restaurant & Patio. The food & wine were excellant! It was nice to view the restaurant's wine list before we went to dinner, & to find it to be accurate when we went to the restaurant. We have already recommended Luminaria to several of our friends. The crab tostadas & shrimp & chorizo appetizers are to die for.
We enjoyed our meal very much, but know that it is quite pricey. I had a wonderful pear martini- had a fancy name I cannot recall. We both had delicious salmon over a divine rich buttery risotto. They gave us each a chocolate truffle since we were too full for dessert. People dressed nicer than at most Santa Fe restaurants ( we felt underdressed).
This was our first time at the Luminaria (Patio) and everyting was wonderful.
I just wonder how we had not found or heard of this resturant before.
We went to The Luminaria before the Opera, and the meal came in a timely fashon
so we had no problem with getting to the opera. We will be going back to
try them for lunch in the next couple three weeks.

Alway so very good...the wait staff are all so sweet....and the valet for the car also...
Great Al Fresco dinning. Server was well trained.
Although we were not seated in the patio as we had requested, our experience in the dining room was wonderful. We were given a table with a view of the fountain, so we had the best of both worlds. The dining room is beautifully appointed & quite romantic. Every dish we ordered was superb. We only wished that the menu was more extensive. The dessert menu was very limited unappealing to us. Service was outstanding.
Great outdoor patio, excellent food
Went for 32 anniversary. Chef came out and waitress brought rose petals.. Very very nice. It was perfect!
The Luminaria is associated with the Inn & Spa at Loretto. While at the Inn we scheduled dinner at Luminaria. The menu is not extensive, but the alternatives are excellent. My wife chose the duck and I the sea bass, preceeded with a grilled ceasar salad. The food was outstanding as was Melissa, our server. For dessert we shared the brulee which was unique, and very good. Would highly recommend Luminaria when you are in Santa Fe irrespective of whether you are staying at the Inn or not.
Service was fine early, however the restaurant was very understaffed and service degraded to an unacceptable level as it became busier. The staff was hard working, however management needs to expand staff to a reasonable level. I would recommend to go early before it becomes busy. The location is excellent as is the food.
An enchanting setting for outside dining.
Was a wonderful evening....the food was outstanding...the service was superb....and if there was any noise...it was coming from our table....a great fun evening...with 8 people. Thanks,,,Barbara
We stopped in on a lark. When we mentioned it was our anniversary, they scattered red rose petals on the table and brought us two glasses of champagne on the house. The food was amazing. We had the duck and sea bass. Their Serrano chili margarita was great! The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We will definitely return.
Delicious food!! We were celebrating our anniversary and this meal made the evening special. Excellent service and romantic ambiance as well.
Restaurant has beautiful menu and presentation of food excellent. Good combinations. We had the prix fixe which is a bargain in any city. Nice wine list.Excellent service. Will be there again.
The patio was lovely. We enjoyed the food, wine and ambience so much that we chose to dine at Luminaria two days in a row. My favorite item was the sweet corn bisque.
I have been eating there since it became "Luminaria". The food is always creative, fresh, local and seasonal. They serve it with a creative style (like the way the tortilla soup is served). The staff is very well trained and extremely attentive without being bothersome. The in house dining room is great in winter and I think the outdoor patio is the best spot in Santa Fe. Because it is in a hotel, sometimes visitors miss it, but the locals know all about it. I think it competes with any of the better known names in town and holds it own.
The entire experience was excellent. I had the evening special, halibut and it was the best I have ever eaten. The grilled romaine salad was fabulous, the server was attentive, gave excellent suggestions, and did not rush us, but stayed with it. Many options for wines by the glass and bottle. Valet parking is a real plus as well. The best meal in Santa Fe so far!
Food choices are excellent and varied, tables set far enough away from each other on patio for conversation. Weather was perfect for outside brunch/lunch. Experience was fine from valet to meal payment. Waitress was concerned about our paying the check but did back-off when we indicated we were not in a hurry and there were ample number of tables available...
A beautiful decor in a beautiful setting. We went for a late lunch. The servers were attentive and gracious. The food was excellent--from the bread basket (blue corn muffins were great!) to dessert.
A wonderful patio and pleasant room are the hallmarks of Luminaria but the food has also improved since our last visit about a year ago. Excellent flavor to the paella, and interesting tofu entree, which is unusual to find. Friendly service as well, we will return sooner than later!
Patio dining was delightful.
Early bird special dinner was well worth the cost - all dishes were very flavorful and presented well.
Would return on our next trip to Santa Fe
Great food, great atmosphere, expensive but worth it.
Gorgeous setting, the patio is lovely at night and the staff are friendly. We both enjoyed our starters, for entrée, the salmon was well seasoned with a lovely crisp skin (a little overcooked) and the Risotto had a nice flavor but it was dense and solid. The paella was ok but smacked of yesterdays chicken. The panna cotta brulee was dull. The food is acceptable but really nothing special and to be honest I found it rather amateur cooking for the price.
Great ambiance, food and service. We dined outdoors, with a view of the Loretto Chapel., on a beautiful summer evening. Luminaria falls unto the "expensive but worth it" category. I look forward to returning the next time I am in Santa Fe.
While the food was good and the waiter was fair....he forgot when we ordered a second drink. His companion female took the bottled water we had purchased for our table and began pouring it at another table. When we arrived we asked for outdoor seating and were told it might rain, it didn't ...others were seated outdoors.. Their attitude was snobbery at its best. Unless you know someone or they know you....skip this restaurant and go someplace where they appreciate you spending over $200.00. Much attention was paid to two young women seated next to us by the host, and the manager. They were asked continually how the meal was. We were never so much as approached and no one ever asked us about our meal.
