Luminaria Restaurant & Patio Ratings and Reviews
Once again Luminaria provided us with a great meal and excellent service. We enjoyed a quiet corner where we could have an easy conversation though noise would have been moderate on an evening when they were busy. The Blue Corn "Steak and Enchiladas" filet mignon was an interesting combination--perfectly cooked filet and the Enchiladas added a nice New Mexican touch. The sea bass and jumbo scallop dinners were also perfect.
This was a great find! Searched for a place I thought I had not been to before (realized I had before years ago when I had stayed at the Inn at Loretta. This place will not disappoint. One of the best meals I have had recently. Pork Belly starter and Lamb chops entree were incredible (served with green Chile grits and sugar snap peas!! I will have to go back!! Oh, and the Service was great!!
New Years Eve Dinner and birthday dinner. Set menu for evening did mot include a drink. Started off well with apps, but steak was overly charred entire dish overwhelmed. Sea Bass was cooked well but polenta was runny with frozen veggies on top. Desserts ok, chocolate trio was dry.
We had Christmas brunch there last year (2016). It was great, so we went back again this year. It was a totally different experience. The difference was so extreme, we can only assume it has had a drastic change in management.
We had to wait 50 minutes for the food. It's not like it's a big place with 50-100 people to serve. It's pretty small. Add to that we didn't get the food on the menu we wanted. They were out of that... Nor did we end up ordering food that takes awhile to prepare. My wife had a salad and I ordered an omelet...
The food was just okay. The Caesar salad came with dressing laced with some sort of red chili pepper. Typical around here... Anyway, she asked if she could just have regular Caesar dressing. No, of course not... What restaurant serving Caesar salad doesn't have Caesar dressing???
Last year there was a dessert buffet. There wasn't one this year. They had a few offerings for dessert, but at that point we were afraid if we ordered something, we'd have to wait another hour for it. It just wasn't worth it.
On the way out, I wanted an Irish Coffee, so we went into the bar. Big mistake. It was as bad as the restaurant. Again, the place wasn't busy. There were maybe 5 people in there, including us. We waited to order, waited for the drink, and by the time we were ready to pay up and leave, the people who worked behind the bar had simply disappeared. Finally, someone materialized, and I asked for the check. The guy told us that was a no-can-do because I hadn't ordered the drink from him. We would just have to wait until the guy I ordered the drink from returned. It took awhile, just like everything else in this place.
Next year we'll have to find somewhere else to eat. Virtually anyplace would be better than this.
Menu selections offered a wide range of dining options. Food was outstanding, as was the service. Service maybe a little too quick between courses, as we had not finished our starters before our entrees arrived. Would have enjoyed a more leisurely service where we could relax.
Sadly disappointing for such a beautiful venue to have some real food issues.
The French fries looked wonderful, but the oil they were cooked in needed changing.
The grill also needed cleaning to remove garlic flavor on bread for a simple BLT.
Fortunately there is always Alka Seltzer , but when you are paying that much money for a holiday lunch, the restaurant needs to nail it first time, every time!!!
My husband and I were in Santa Fe for a long weekend. It was our first time to N.M. Luminaria was listed in local restaurant guides and on Yelp. We went on a Sunday evening and only two other couples were eating there. We were seated next to the fireplace, which was kept burning well the entire time we were there. Service was excellent. Our server recommended drinks and food options. The dinner was very good.
Food was excellent. Server great! Chef was warm and friendly as he came out to cook a birthday dinner for his daughter. Very nice evening. Only negative comment I have is the person who greeted displayed his boredom and yawned in our faces,, disinterested, didn't want to seat us at the table we saw and asked for as he said didn't want to get it set up. Every other employee seemed to be vested in giving the patrons the best experience and were friendly and kind.
I was very satisfied with my choice to dine here with my family on a busy Friday night. My husband and mother had steaks - my husband the ribeye special, my mother the filet. Both enjoyed the meat cuts and desired temperatures. However, both would have preferred if the sides had not been served under the hot meat as it made potatoes and veggies wet and rubbery. I had the eggplant rollitini over mushroom ravioli, and couldn’t finish the plate, but it was very good and only lacked a little salt for my taste. The sauce on the ravioli was very unique. My sister had a crab cake from the appetizer menu, and the table shared grilled asparagus and truffle frites. Dessert was a hit with a flourless chocolate cake and a crepe brûlée to share. I found it odd that the furniture was wicker with cushions for an indoor restaurant, and there wasn’t really a way to comfortable sit in the very large chairs.
After a disastrous experience a year ago (inedible food, complete lack of service, very dirty dining area,) we had written off this place. Visiting Santa Fe again this year, we stopped by to see if the extensive cobwebs had been dusted from the chandeliers over the outdoor tables, and were urged to revisit the restaurant by one of the managers. Five of us went for dinner the next night. The new chef has improved the food significantly. A lovely seared tuna amuse bouche was served. Two of us had eggplant rollatini which was very good, and the remaining three each had Scottish salmon, also nicely done. Desserts, a flourless chocolate cake, crème brûlée, and a tres leches cake, were also good. The place was very clean. Service, unfortunately, is still subpar and amateurish. When the waitstaff is properly trained we will be able to recommend the restaurant without reservation.
We were celebrating an anniversary, and wanted to splurge a bit. Scottish salmon was to-die-for, and the Caesar salad was amazing. Service was a bit slow, which was surprising, as the restaurant was not overly crowded. Probably the fault of the kitchen, not our server.
The staff had rose petals on our table upon arrival! We were celebrating my daughter and son-in-law's recent marriage. The food was phenomenal and the strawberry jalapeño margarita is a must-have! The service is SUPER-EXCELLENT and very attentive! This is definitely the place to go if you are celebrating a special occasion. I'll return time and time again! Thank you so much!
Went here on a date with my honey. This was a fun, unique restuarant. A flash back in time for a true prohibition speakeasy experience. LUMINARY IS A GREAT RESTAURANT!! We live in Albuquerque but went to Santa Fe for our 47th anniversary and wanted somewhere special for dinner. We found it here, when the wonderful waitress learned it was our anniversary she spread rose pedals on our table and gave us free champagne . She recommended the tortilla soup and it was perfect. My wife had the Salmon and I had the filet with a blue corn enchilada and both meals could not have been better! Friendly people, great food and drink, who could ask for more? I don't know of any where in Albuquerque that there is such a great chef as the one that cooked our meal.
Excellent food, ok service. Best to eat outside on the patio, if weather permits. The ambiance inside is just ok. The food was incredible, but service was lacking. We sat for at least 5-10 minutes before anyone attempted to greet us at our table. It was not very busy either. The waiter was nice and very knowledgeable, but at times we had to wait for extended periods. The check took forever to get. They surely are not trying to rush you. Overall, I would recommend. The "steak and enchiladas" filet mignon was out of site, as well as the grilled caesar salad.
