In 1912, at the bend of Forest Avenue, 23 year old Joe Jahraus opened the Laguna Lumber Company, he and his father(cigar maker, first postmaster and real estate agent) built the beautiful French Normandy building that is here today. Prior to the lumberyard opening, building supplies needed to be dragged in by mule or floated in on the tides, and therefore, Laguna Beach had less than three hundred permanent residences. After the lumberyard opened, the area began to grow at unprecedented rates, transforming it from a tent town into a thriving city. Laguna Lumber operated for seventy three years, sixty two of them in this location and its' architecture, influenced by Joe's tour abroad in World War I, is one of the most significant influences on the town's aesthetic. Half timbers, mud walls and shingled roofs grace many of the downtown storefronts and homes throughout the city because of this landmark. Today, 384 Forest is home to Lumberyard - a contemporary American restaurant.

Lumberyard Ratings and Reviews
There was a group of seven. The table was in a nice area, almost like we had our own room. Chad was our waiter, and he was wonderful! He kept the wine coming, we never wanted for anything, and he accommodated us with dairy free options on certain dishes. We will definitely be back !
Every time I come to visit my daughter we come to the Lumberyard. My daughter loves steak and they have the best steak in the area if not OC. Chad has been our waiter many times and he is always cheerful and provides at excellent experience. I've also had their meatloaf and King Salmon which both are amazing, best meatloaf I've ever had. You must get the Brussels Sprouts. If my daughter had her way we would eat here each night I'm in town.
This is a mid tier restaurant in Laguna Beach. Fine in every way. It is at a prominent location on Forest Ave and is usually one of the busier restaurants with fashionable smiling diners at most hours. They do a good job with above average cuts of meat and will suit most palates.
We had strange service. Our server kept rushing us to order. After our entrees we were asked if she could bring the check. It was my bday so i said, can we order dessert? Its my bday. Our server said oh sure, raced off and while we waited for what we assumed was a dessert menu, she returned with some random dessert we didnt order and dropped the check. It was totally weird. Im not someone to complain and id never financially punish a server for being bad at their job so i tipped my usual 20+% but i did not enjoy the meal due to the service. The food was good and i enjoyed the energy and atmosphere of the restaurant.
Though it feels like a casual dining chain, the food was a cut above the partially pre-made fare you’d expect from such an establishment. The double pork chop was cooked to order, slightly pink in the center with a nice char and absolutely delicious with the potato leak purée and spinach. Don’t miss the zucchini planks with a tangy ranch sauce. They’re the absolute perfect bar food. Hot and crunchy with a little Parmesan tang. We only ordered one drink but it was well made and the beer menu is extensive and excellent. I recommend this place. It was really good.
We like Lumberyard and eat there frequently. I was disappointed that they do not carry a Belgian White style beer. My Lumberyard 'Signature' burger was excellent. My wife and her friend both enjoyed the Crab Cake Salad, which my wife described as "fabulous". Of course we will be back.
The food is great. Tricky to find a parking spot. Nice ambiance. Was not busy and the service was just ok. I had my empty soda glass that I set aside for a refill and someone picked up the glass without asking if I wanted a refill. And it took awhile before the server came back to ask for a refill. I have been there before and the service was good. So, I won't judge based on that. You will enjoy the location, cozy interior, and the food is really good.
We are visiting from Los Angeles with our kids and made the reservation in hopes that we could have a fairly inexpensive evening out. There was no indication when booking through open table or even through the restaurant’s website that there would be a price fixe menu for the evening. Our plan was to give the girls the cornbread appetizer and share my roasted chicken with them. Instead, dinner was $250 for our party of four, including $24 chicken fingers my four year old didn’t touch and $29 salmon for my seven year old. Adult dinners were $65 each.. The waiter was great and the food was good, but not what we thought we had carefully planned out for our budget getaway. Had we known ahead of time we would likely have made other plans. Spending two weeks grocery budget on one dinner out may have driven me to drink...but I couldn’t afford it.
The food was very good and good sized portions - most took go boxes. We had a 6PM reservation and were on a relatively tight schedule for getting to the Laguna Playhouse for a 7:30 show, and we made it, but it was tight. The seated a few of the party early and there rest of us (5 total) a bit ahead of the reservation - yeah! Only negative (but it depends upon your age group - is that the noise level can be difficulty to hold a conversation. We were in the dining area, but just behind the bar. Perhaps the outer booths were quieter.
