In 1912, at the bend of Forest Avenue, 23 year old Joe Jahraus opened the Laguna Lumber Company, he and his father(cigar maker, first postmaster and real estate agent) built the beautiful French Normandy building that is here today. Prior to the lumberyard opening, building supplies needed to be dragged in by mule or floated in on the tides, and therefore, Laguna Beach had less than three hundred permanent residences. After the lumberyard opened, the area began to grow at unprecedented rates, transforming it from a tent town into a thriving city. Laguna Lumber operated for seventy three years, sixty two of them in this location and its' architecture, influenced by Joe's tour abroad in World War I, is one of the most significant influences on the town's aesthetic. Half timbers, mud walls and shingled roofs grace many of the downtown storefronts and homes throughout the city because of this landmark. Today, 384 Forest is home to Lumberyard - a contemporary American restaurant.

A wonderful find - great locals place off the busy side of Forest. Terrific service and amazing food. Halibut special and the shrimp ceviche were delicious!! Highly recommend.

Great place and service was fantastic, but the food was overly seasoned with salt.

Always a very good meal at reasonable cost considering the upscale feel and location. Being at the very tip of Forest Drive, this restaurant has a local feel to it as many of the Laguna Beach tourists don't venture this far up the street. Solid American dishes with a warm atmosphere, particularly on a cold evening. My shellfish linguini was tasty and filling while the wife's salmon was perfectly cooked to order. Other couple enjoyed their fish & chips and sole. Corkage fee $15, very reasonable. Service is outstanding... excellent wait staff and bussers. Live music on weekends with a soft rock/folksy theme. Good for background while eating or while enjoying a drink at the bar.

The restaurant has a policy to not split orders in the kitchen when two people want to share an entry. We think they should review that policy
and charge a fee if necessary because many of us cannot eat some entry's because of there size. We know that some restaurants do charge and that is ok.

I enjoy the Lumberyard and have been going for years. Service was excellent as was our meal, however the jazz band playing in the bar made for a bad experience and we won't be going back unless they're not playing. Excellent music, just the wrong venue. We were in the dining room and had to yell to each other as well as our server. The band was asked to tone it down a little, but every time the drummer had a solo, it was like a concert...almost comical, but more irritating. Again, good music, just very wrong venue and not good for a nice night out, if you want to have a conversation.

I like this restaurant because it is easy to walk to the Theater. We came in at 5:15 for dinner and sat in the bar. Waitress was nice but was handling the restaurant area as well so she wasn't as tentative as I would have liked her to be. It wasn't her fault but it still made my friends nervous as we waited 15 minutes before she returned. The food was good and I would return. I would not sit in the bar unless they have enough servers.

The restaurant is in poor condition, from very visible termite damage on the outside, to an interior that is badly need of an update and cleaning. The entire place just seems to be on its way out. The hostess didn’t even acknowledge us when we approached her counter, and after I told her we had reservations, she grabbed menus and walked away to a table. She simply put our menus on the table and walked off. I noticed that she did this with most customers. The food was actually pretty good but when the staff doesn’t appreciate your business and environment is not clean or welcoming, it just takes away from the entire experience. Probably won’t go back and we’ve come here for several years. There’s too many restaurants in the area for this type of experience. Our visit was for dinner on 3/19/18.

Food and service were pretty good. Lots of classic comfort food (Meatloaf, Chicken Pot Pie, Beef Stroganoff, Ribs, half roasted chicken, etc.) on the menu plus, steaks & fish. Depending on where you sit, it can be very loud. Pricing reasonable considering the Laguna Beach location.

One of the few places to get sole, and it's well prepared. Great choice of salads for the vegetarian in the group. Excellent service. Look also for happy hour until 6:30 weekdays in the bar and on the patio.

We were going to see a play at the Laguna Beach Playhouse - This is a great place to start the evening.

Service and the food was great. Water glasses & drinks constantly refilled and plates cleared quickly.

Only issue - It is a bit too loud. Hard to hold a conversation across the table.

Really good, as always. Our server was very attentive without being "pushy".
Food is very good, but it would be a nice change to have some nightly specials. for some variety.
My only complaint has always been the noise level. I would never think of this place for a business dinner. But its fine for a Pre-Theater dinner and walk to Theater.

It was just average, nothing special. The clam chowder was good. $25 for a glass of wine seemed out of place. I expected a better restaurant for the location.

Our waiter seemed to prefer leaning up against the wall as opposed to being an attentive server. Every time we need something we had to wave him down with a verbal, "Excuse me." We have dined at Lumberyard before and had a woman server who was wonderful. The poor service by the waiter, combined with 2 mistakes in the restaurant's favor on our bill and the high level of noise left us not wanting to return.

We went prior to seeing a play at Laguna Playhouse. The services and the food were both excellent.

If you want a romantic evening probably not the best choice but for dinner with a friend or pre theater it is a great choice.

Loved it.

My wife's filet was terrific. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie--thought it would be the perfect comfort food on a chilly night--and was disappointed. Bland, nothing special about it. Brought the left-overs home...added some thyme and some sweet peas...and voila! Much, much better.

There was a group of seven. The table was in a nice area, almost like we had our own room. Chad was our waiter, and he was wonderful! He kept the wine coming, we never wanted for anything, and he accommodated us with dairy free options on certain dishes. We will definitely be back !

Every time I come to visit my daughter we come to the Lumberyard. My daughter loves steak and they have the best steak in the area if not OC. Chad has been our waiter many times and he is always cheerful and provides at excellent experience. I've also had their meatloaf and King Salmon which both are amazing, best meatloaf I've ever had. You must get the Brussels Sprouts. If my daughter had her way we would eat here each night I'm in town.

My main recommendation would be to hire more mellow musical entertainment ...
The general clientele wants to engage in conversation with a backdrop of music - not listen to the band.
