American
In 1912, at the bend of Forest Avenue, 23 year old Joe Jahraus opened the Laguna Lumber Company, he and his father(cigar maker, first postmaster and real estate agent) built the beautiful French Normandy building that is here today. Prior to the lumberyard opening, building supplies needed to be dragged in by mule or floated in on the tides, and therefore, Laguna Beach had less than three hundred permanent residences. After the lumberyard opened, the area began to grow at unprecedented rates, transforming it from a tent town into a thriving city. Laguna Lumber operated for seventy three years, sixty two of them in this location and its' architecture, influenced by Joe's tour abroad in World War I, is one of the most significant influences on the town's aesthetic. Half timbers, mud walls and shingled roofs grace many of the downtown storefronts and homes throughout the city because of this landmark. Today, 384 Forest is home to Lumberyard - a contemporary American restaurant.

I am 100% serious when I tell you their skillet chocolate chip cookie is the best I have ever had! I owned a bakery and have a very refined taste for all things chocolate - this dessert was simply divine and for sure enough of a reason to go visit again! The food is also outstanding. I had the pasta with pink sauce and the pasta is fresh made from an Italian pasta maker (I would probably guess the chef is Italian). My husband had the bacon wrapped meatloaf and enjoyed every bite. Plenty of other delicious items to order as well. As we are new in the area, we for sure know this will be a go-to for us!

Good food for everyone. Only downside was that our server was less than attentive. Had to wait to order, then she never came by again until we were done. All she did was take the order. All the other service was by others.

We had not been to this location since it changed from Cedar Creek to The Lumberyard. The interior had changed quite a bit with an enlarged bar. The menu had a nice selection of items at price points for dinner from $15-$45 dollars. Our waiter was attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. We will definitely go back very soon!

The service was great when we first sat down and after it was a little busier we were forgotten about. I had to walk up to the desk to pay my bill because she didn’t come back.

Lumberyard is always good and consistent. My husband really enjoyed his french dip sandwich and I enjoyed the salmon. We also had the planks which are breaded and fried zucchini sticks and they were tasty. They have a nice beer and wine selection too. Lumberyard is the place to go when you want delicious comfort food.

Dinner was very good. The only issue we had was no fault of the Lumberyard, but they were very accommodating in moving our table due to parents not taking responsibility for there children. Other than that the evening was very nice.

Was very warm (temperature) in the restaurant, and very busy. Our waitress was sweet but too busy to be attentive. The food was not bad. Kale salad was good, French onion good, salmon was good - but vegetables were cold, hard (not cooked enough), and steamed with no seasoning - didn’t taste good. Seafood salad was sparse. My son had ribs that he said were very good and tender. The artichoke was so so. It was a bit rubbery but the sauce it came with was very good.

Had a great meal & great time at Lumberyard.
The beef stroganoff & sea bass as well as the bottle of cab from Justin were A+.
This is one of the best restaurants in all of Laguna Beach.

The location is especially great for a light dinner before attending the Laguna Playhouse performances. While I have frequently dined there, this particular evening the food was not memorable.

There was live music the night we were there, which was really fun.
I had the burger for dinner, and it was honestly just average. Not spectacular, not bad, just average. We also had the spring rolls, which were also just average.
I would probably go back for a beer because the selection was solid, and the restaurant itself is pretty cool inside. Maybe I’ll give the menu another try with something else.
