Food and service were great. Wine list was good but seemed over priced. Good venue for before or after theatre.
Luma consistently delivers excellent service, in a very attractively decorated restaurant. Meals are presented beautifully, and are fairly inventive.
This was pre-theatre pick, mostly for location. We liked the atmosphere, nice buzz and bustle but not too loud. Our server was very attentive, and although the food took some time, it wasn't terrible.
The kale salad was excellent but my tuna main course was good but not great. Seared tuna can be spectacular in a good restaurant, or just ordinary, like what you might find in an upscale roadhouse like Milestones - unfortunately, it was the latter. We also found the wine selection by the glass quite pricey, so in the end, it didn't seem like great value.
Will recommend but with caution. Good service. Dishes inventive and interesting. Some delicious but several dishes over salted to the point of being inedible ie grilled pork chop.
Food was mediocre. Squid ink fish and chips aren't appetizing to look at, but tasted ok. Quality is in line with most pubs.
It was my daughter 's birthday and was a work assignment in Canada. I was able to have the restaurant provide a bottle of Persecco to her and she loved. They were great in making this a special occasion.
We had dinner at Luma last Saturday prior to going to The Princess of Wales
Previous reviews had indicated slow service, but we didn't find this to be the case at all.
We all enjoyed our choices, Flank Steak, Pork Chop, and Shrimp and Pasta.
The small plate of deserts was just perfect for sharing amongst 4 people.
Service was friendly, fast and efficient and our server was very helpful with choices.
Presentation was very lovely.
We would all definitely return another time.
Service has really fallen off - when we were supposed to be taken to our table, the host started a conversation with other people who showed up with no reservation and did not even want to eat dinner and we had to listen to this instead of being taken to our table. Waiter forgot to order one of our dishes and it took an unacceptably long time to get our check.
Luma chocolate bar for dessert, it's all you need.
Restaurant was not busy but yet service was slow. Meal finally came but really cold as if it has been sitting for over 15 min. No refills were offered. Dishes did not get cleared until 20 min after we have stacked them in the corner of the table. Waiter was not told about birthday celebration even though it was in special instructions on reservations. The only plus is manager owned up to poor experience and took off the cold meal. Over all I would not consider this location fine dining. I would just place it in a over price under qualified dining experience.
Server was friendly. We ordered the escargot with bone marrow for appetizer. My boyfriend ordered the beef flank steak and I ordered the smoked duck. They all tasted very good but it seemed i had some allergic reaction to something I ate that night (my jaw just felt weird, pressured, headache. But after a couple of hours, it’s gone). My boyfriend was fine. So I guess it was just me. Could it be MSG?
Our appetizers were quite good. My lamb shanks were quite good. My wifes main course of shrimp pasta was utterly tasteless and bland and the shrimp were too salty. She was very disappointed.
Food and service was amazing! Special thanks to our served Meagan
Service was not good. Our waiter placed our wine far from the table and then forgot to serve it. He was noisy and awkward in clearing the table, shoving forks and knives across our dinner plates. He took far too long to take our coffee order and then disappeared. If it wasn't so amateurish, it would have been funny, but nobody at our table was laughing.
Food was okay but very small portions and very overpriced for what you get. I had the cod - tiny portion and came with about 5 Brussel sprouts and nothing else. Should have come with another side like rice, quinoa or potatoes. My husband had the seared tuna which was 4 small pieces of tuna (appetizer sized portion) and some black rice. We also had the kale salad and Caesar salad which were nothing special. Ended up having to ask for more bread and ordering a dessert which was just okay as we were both still hungry. Service was friendly but odd as we weren’t sure who our waiter was. Started with what seemed like the maître d’ who took out order and then he didn’t really return and we had a a variety of different people come to our table after that. Very disappointing and would not return.
The food was absolutely fabulous! I had the steak and my sister had the tuna and we shared each other's food and it was amazing. The flavours were so good my mouth is watering just thinking about it! The fries are totally worth getting too!!! My niece is vegan and they tailored her meal to suit her needs and I was totally impressed by that. We all shared a bite of the lovely lemon tart at the end and it was the perfect way to end the meal. I will definitely come back.
We had a 5:30 pm dinner reservation, which allowed us plenty of time to relax and enjoy the ambiance, wine and food with plenty of time to spare before heading to Princess of Wales Theatre to see RAIN.
Our server Kevin was pleasant, attentive and made sure our water and wine glasses were always topped up. We had warm olives and edamame as our apps. Delish. The Kale salad was A+++, the Ceasar salad has white anchovies A+++.
Our mains: the roasted cod entree (no complaints) and the roast chicken which they gladly substituted starch for greens. My only complaint would be that my chicken and greens were over seasoned with too much salt making it difficult to finish my plate.
Overall, I would return to LUMA.
No attention to special request! It was my birthday and I requested a slice of cake with a candle for picture taking.
At dessert time, I had to let the waiter know what I had wanted coz it appears that he wasn’t even aware of it. There was no cake on the menu so I ordered something else. After waiting for a while, the waiter came with the dessert with no candle. Instead, he brought a lighter! Que horror! 😱😱😱
Great evening of fine dinning and a movie. We will be back!
Service was excellent as always. Luma does recruit the most professional and charming servers. The food was very nice - enough choices and reasonable portion sizes (not huge) so you can order a couple of courses and dessert without way too much food. Also an easy menu if you want to eat light.
We had a very enjoyable experience... We found that the host & food service staff were caring and appreciative of my business.
A very worthwhile evening prior to taking in a show down the King Street.
Hitting the theatre and came to Luma for pre theatre dinner and drinks. Service slow ..almost thought they forgot about us. Asked to have a bottle of bubbly ready at table upon arrival... no bottle...
Food was great and service got a bit better as the dinner went on... expensive but location so convenient and food good.
Still like Luma
Ambience is nice. My salad was excellent. I ordered gnochi and it came in a pool of oil or melted butter at the bottom of the bowl. It was disgustingly greasy. All my pasta and squash were sopping in grease. It was like eating a bowl of cereal with grease instead of milk. Thats how much grease there was. Service was good but not great. Our waitress dissappeared half way through and we got a bit frustrated waiting for her to rwturn so we could get our bill. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Wanted to treat my son to a special meal, since we don’t get together very often. Love the location and view, and food was very tasty. Excellent cheese choices at dessert as well. Was good for conversation, and waitress was friendly and intuitive.
LUMA is simply superb. Amazing staff, great food, perfect atmosphere - either before/after movies, or just for dinner, it's a perfect spot on King - highly recommended for all age groups and all possible occasions.
I had an steak. It was delicious, the waitress was very polite and thoughtful.
We showed up with more people then our reservation called for and the hosts did everything possible to fit our larger group in. They were amazing and provided service above anything we were looking for. Our waiter was funny and shared his menu picks and they were dead on. I was going to have cod but when I heard him talk about the tuna I was in. He shared his love of his Grandma's lemon tart and his opinion that the Lemon Tart was the best dessert. Everyone who had it agreed. A great night out.
Server was great, went downstairs to canteen to get apple juice for my son which was super. Food was tasty and delicious.
The food was so very well prepared and quite delicious. It is a lovely atmosphere. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. We were there early...a 5 PM reservation so it was quite. I assume it gets a bit noisy when the restaurant is full. The bar looked like a lively place to have drinks and snacks. I plan to return.
We had a wonderful lunch at Luma last week. The food was so beautifully presented, and had excellent deep flavour. I love the spacious feel of the restaurant and the lovely open windows. We had a superb French-Canadian waiter and consequently the service was wonderful. Going back again this week!
Overall, the ambiance is good and the food is good. However, the service was slow. And they should give us bread and keep paying us attention whenever we need after the food was served.
We went on Valentines Day , having TIFF tickets at 9:30 we got there 2 hours prior for our reservation, the server forgot to put our order in and was delayed. He didnt offer us a drink or even apologize. He said " thats the way it is sometimes". We got our food, rushed to eat it. Sure it was good but wsnt enjoyable when we were rushing. I wouldnt go back again before a show.
The service was fabulous. Friendly, efficient and competent. Food was excellent and given the start to the new year she worked hard to help us enjoy a lovely dinner while staying true to our food restrictions.
My daughter and I shared our main course. The texture of the cod was rubbery and lacked flavour. We were initially disappointed with the pork dish. I requested some extra sauce . With the extra sauce we were able to enjoy the pork. The ceasar salad lacked flavour but the mushroom salad was excellent.
My kale salad did not live up to my expectations. The presentation was boring and the pickled grapes tasted like olives which I don't like and they were quite bitter tasting. There weren't enough bread toasts that accompanied the chicken liver hummus. I never understand why restaurants skimp on this - it's only bread! I would have asked for more toasts and sent the salad back but it was a client lunch and I didn't think it was appropriate in this situation.
I have given a review on Trip Advisor.
It was my first time at Luma.great food and choices. Good service. Would recommend Luma to friend.
Will be back.
A friend and I went for a Winterlicious lunch. I had never been before but will certainly go again. We decided to share the two entrees (pickerel and a poutine) and while both were good, the pickerel was better.
The service was both quick and friendly; our server had a great sense of humour but wasn't over the top.
Again - enjoyed the food, the service, and the ambience. Thanks LUMA!
Great service and ambiance but the food was lacking. Was expecting something more
This was my family and I’s first time dining at Luma. I’ve known about Luma for a while, being with O&B and also doing a site tour for TIFF.
From the second we walked in, we loved the service. They sat us earlier than our reservation and checked our coats in before seating us. The atmosphere, ambiance, and interior of the restaurant was a great balance of lively and relaxing.
Our servers were absolutely great in service, etiquette, and personality. They were very welcoming and friendly.
Once our food started coming out, it was only uphill from there. The perfectly timed food deliveries, clearing off our table before the next course and checking up on us throughout the meal was very well done.
I would definitely come back here for everyday dining and for a special occasion.
Definitely worth trying for LiciousTO or just a regular lunch or dinner!
