Luma Ratings and Reviews
We showed up with more people then our reservation called for and the hosts did everything possible to fit our larger group in. They were amazing and provided service above anything we were looking for. Our waiter was funny and shared his menu picks and they were dead on. I was going to have cod but when I heard him talk about the tuna I was in. He shared his love of his Grandma's lemon tart and his opinion that the Lemon Tart was the best dessert. Everyone who had it agreed. A great night out.
The food was so very well prepared and quite delicious. It is a lovely atmosphere. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. We were there early...a 5 PM reservation so it was quite. I assume it gets a bit noisy when the restaurant is full. The bar looked like a lively place to have drinks and snacks. I plan to return.
We had a wonderful lunch at Luma last week. The food was so beautifully presented, and had excellent deep flavour. I love the spacious feel of the restaurant and the lovely open windows. We had a superb French-Canadian waiter and consequently the service was wonderful. Going back again this week!
We went on Valentines Day , having TIFF tickets at 9:30 we got there 2 hours prior for our reservation, the server forgot to put our order in and was delayed. He didnt offer us a drink or even apologize. He said " thats the way it is sometimes". We got our food, rushed to eat it. Sure it was good but wsnt enjoyable when we were rushing. I wouldnt go back again before a show.
My daughter and I shared our main course. The texture of the cod was rubbery and lacked flavour. We were initially disappointed with the pork dish. I requested some extra sauce . With the extra sauce we were able to enjoy the pork. The ceasar salad lacked flavour but the mushroom salad was excellent.
My kale salad did not live up to my expectations. The presentation was boring and the pickled grapes tasted like olives which I don't like and they were quite bitter tasting. There weren't enough bread toasts that accompanied the chicken liver hummus. I never understand why restaurants skimp on this - it's only bread! I would have asked for more toasts and sent the salad back but it was a client lunch and I didn't think it was appropriate in this situation.
A friend and I went for a Winterlicious lunch. I had never been before but will certainly go again. We decided to share the two entrees (pickerel and a poutine) and while both were good, the pickerel was better.
The service was both quick and friendly; our server had a great sense of humour but wasn't over the top.
Again - enjoyed the food, the service, and the ambience. Thanks LUMA!
This was my family and I’s first time dining at Luma. I’ve known about Luma for a while, being with O&B and also doing a site tour for TIFF.
From the second we walked in, we loved the service. They sat us earlier than our reservation and checked our coats in before seating us. The atmosphere, ambiance, and interior of the restaurant was a great balance of lively and relaxing.
Our servers were absolutely great in service, etiquette, and personality. They were very welcoming and friendly.
Once our food started coming out, it was only uphill from there. The perfectly timed food deliveries, clearing off our table before the next course and checking up on us throughout the meal was very well done.
I would definitely come back here for everyday dining and for a special occasion.
Definitely worth trying for LiciousTO or just a regular lunch or dinner!
We had a great winterlicious dinner at Lima. It was also fun exploring the TIFF light box building and browsing the trendy movies that are playing right now. Luma offers tasty dishes in good portions. The shrimps in the shrimp cocktail are jumbo size; the beef strip loin is cooked to perfection; the honey sponge toffee and goat cheese combination give interesting texture and sweet and saltiness balance.
I was expecting a lot from this restaurant and they certainly didn't deliver. They haven't even got their hours right for Google who said they were closed on Sundays. I didn't like how they didn't do a regular menu and the Winterlicious Menu at the same time. Some of my friends did not want to do Winterlicious which pretty much left them with no choice but the three course meal. I ordered a Coffee with my dessert and there was a fly in there. The waitress was so non-chalant about it, "Yes, its a fly, I will get you a new coffee". There was no apology, it was disgusting to say the least. I don't think I would go back.
I made a reservation for 9 and had 2 birthdays to celebrate. The banquette table provided a cosy, fairly private place. Our server was amazing, very accommodating, professional presentation. We are all foodies and everyone was pleased with their meal. We were not rushed and the winterlicious menu was well done. Ambience was lovely and we will return and recommend to others. Worth the drive from out of town.
I went for date night with my son to Luma for the first day of Winterlicious. We had a grand time and the food was amazing.
The waitstaff were very sweet and made appropriate recommendations.
I think the only thing that was kind of hilarious was - I had ordered the bone marrow - which I was expected to eat on toast spread over with a knife - and I really wanted to just scoop it out with a spoon but there wasn't one. - that was just my own quirk. It didn't take away from the experience at all.
Thank you for the lovely food.
Visiting Toronto. Selected Luma because Winterlicious menu looked interesting. Shrimp cocktail was a wonderful variation from the traditional. The trout was cooked perfectly and was paired well with the vegetables that accompanied it. I would recommend both.
Dined at Luma several times and have always enjoyed it. The location is easy to get to py TTC and close to the TSO and theatres. The service and ambiance are both excellent. The food is delicious but find it a bit salty. I have and will definitely recommend Luma to a friend.
I usually like this restaurant for casual dining. But our last experience was weird. The service was ok, but not great. He first pretended that he didn't find the wine we ordered and wanted to sell us a more expensive one, then he finally found it, but kept racing through the restaurant with it. The food was not good. It was almost cold when it arrived at the table. Maybe this was only a hiccup and we had a bad night. I really hope so, for usually OB restaurants are a safe bet.
In contrast to our recent poor experience, it is important to note we thoroughly enjoyed our two prior dining experiences at Luma during the summer of 2017, and planned on visiting whenever we were in the area for theater or shows. Unfortunately, our experience last week was very poor, and did not reflect the high quality of food or service we had come to expect based on previous visits. The recent meat (steak and lamb shank) were highly fatty requiring significant trimming on both high end entrees, the caesar salad was mediocre and their famous "truffle fries" fell flat. Despite only approx. 10 customers in the restaurant, our server was too often scarce, compared to prior visits where service had been notably outstanding. The Niagara wine was good, but did not make up for the disappointing meal, and we only hope it was just the regular chef's night off.
