LuLu's Ratings and Reviews
Enjoyed the flavors in the crab bisque, crispy Brussels sprouts, and seafood risotto, but the portion size on the entree (risotto) was quite skimpy, especially given the hefty price tag. Left my first visit not feeling like I got my money’s worth but will give brunch a try still ... I hear that’s better?
Food was great!!! But having to wait for a long time after having a reservation was not good. They kept saying the table we were going to be placed at still has a group that finished their food and paid bill but not getting up, so we had to wait. That in our books is poor service especially when you have a reservation or a certain time
The menu LOOKS amazing - great offerings, but was poorly executed. My bacon in my Huevos Rancheros was barely cooked, the over easy egg described in the menu were well done. Overall not impressed with the food. The staff were amazing, the music was awesome (rock/heavy rock), and I was really excited to eat here. Our drinks, mimosa and a bloody mary, were OK - but the food really took my Sunday down a peg for a place that seemed to have the potential to be amazing.
Fabulous food and patio ambiance. Top notch service by our lovely waiter Michael who was very knowledgeable about the food and wine. We had hot, delicious, and fresh food within 15 minutes of ordering. Very impressed. We will return! I highly recommend the vegetarian pasta option with the citrus sauce. Unique and delicious!! Thanks Michael!
LuLu's never lets me down. I would highly recommend a reservation as this place is busy all the time. Also, leave yourself some time to find parking since street parking has been reduces due to the renovation of the old farmers market and the entire party must be present to be seated. They will hold the reservation for ten minutes after the reservation time. Service was great and the only 'problem' is trying to figure out which one of their delicious dishes to choose.
We made a reservation on opentable about ten minutes before we came in and were able to skip the line for brunch and be seated immediately. The red velvet waffle was delicious, and the server was very attentive. Food came out quickly. The place was very busy, full of families and groups of friends, but everyone seemed to be getting food quickly and to receive good service.
Enjoyed a lovely dinner with a loved one. We happened to be there while there was heavy construction on the street Lulu's is on so it was very quiet but the music selection was really good. Both the salad and entree were delicious, they had a good wine and drink selection, but we don't drink so it was wasted on us. Definitely looking forward to my next opportunity to dine there.
Went for Sunday brunch. Very busy but we were seated promptly at our reservation time. (don't leave home without one!). Jennifer was our server, and she was great! Energetic and engaging. All the food was delicious, although we never did get our bread pudding! We were having so much fun with Jennifer that we didn't realize until we got home that we never got it!
Hands down one of the best brunch spots I have been to in a long time. Waitress and staff were every friendly. They even got us in a bit sooner than our reservation! Please be aware that a reservation during brunch is a must! Try the peach mimosas...my goodness. I had the red velvet waffles and chicken. I cleaned my plate!
This is from Sunday, October 30th for a 11:30 reservation.
We made a reservation and upon arrival waited almost 30 minutes for our table to be ready. It seems they don't actually reserve a table but instead just call it a reservation when you're essentially a walk-in. In fact, we waited a few minutes to even get inside as everyone just piles up at the host stand. It would be nice if the host/hostess asks large groups to have only one person wait inside as opposed to groups of 8 that block the doorway. The hallway between the inside/outside smelled of VERY strong body order. It was reminiscent of the time I was on a French subway with no a/c in the middle of summer.
Thinking that maybe I could grab two seats at the bar I waited as the bartender cleared two seats. She saw me, then turned and called over another two people to sit there. I asked the hostess if the bar seating was first come, first serve and she replied yes.
Once being seated we waited another 10 minutes for our server to come to our table and bring water. She did, but had no welcome to us or apology for the long wait. It seems there is a huge disconnect between the host stand and the servers as we were visibly unhappy. The food was meh, the wait was long, and the service just okay. What topped it off was the 6-top next to us that was SHOUTING at each other and having one large conversation. I'm generally pretty easy going as I worked in the bar business for years but this group was so loud. In hindsight I wish we would have asked to have been moved. But after everything else we were so turned off we just wanted to eat and bail. In hindsight I wish we would have just left after finding out our reservation didn't actually mean we had a table reserved.
The service was great. Our waitress who was Mother Nature (it was Halloween Weekend) was on point with our food and drinks.
The brunch menu was amazing. I had the Corn beef hash with egg whites, delicious. The apple bread pudding was hot it just melted right in your mouth. And to wash everything down I had the signature Pear mimosas. Will eat here again next time I’m in Richmond. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We went during Restaurant Week. Everything was tasty, portions were generous and selection of choices outstanding. Only glitch was getting the glass of wine ordered, had to ask twice for it, but it was a busy night (due to Restaurant Week) so I don't think this would normally happen. We will happily return.
LuLu's was the most amazing dinner in a long time. Our server Eryn was amazing and--I am sure--will own her own restaurant some day. We have eaten too many other places were the food was triple the price and the server snooty and rude. Eryn should be training the waitstaff at rival restaurants. Though we came for Restaurant Week, we have been before. The depth of the RW menu was phenomenal. The chef rocked every single course. Most Richmond restaurants slack off a little on RW and offer smaller portions and a limited menu--NOT LuLu's. We eat out 4-5 times per week for dinner and rarely cook. We are Richmond Foodies. This was one of the best dinners in a long time.
Unaware of the 17th Street construction, parking and access were difficult. We were seated quickly, wait staff were cordial and accommodating. Food option for "restaurant week" were plentiful. The food was outstanding. One problem was noise level. I had to lean towards my seat partner to hear her. We also had the table closest to the open kitchen. A half wall addition would be beneficial. Overall, will return for the great food.
We really enjoyed our food overall but the chicken on the red velvet chicken and waffles was nothing special. It probably needed a little more seasoning. I also expected my French toast to be on a more substantial bread but the French toast I got was made with ordinary sliced bread but it tasted good. We would definitely go back to this restaurant and try other dishes.
I really enjoyed the relaxed feel of the environment; though you’re paying mid-range for the food, the environment is very laid back, kind of like a diner. We arrived a little after the brunch hour rush and were sat quickly. My friend ordered the red velvet waffles and really enjoyed them—I had the chicken and biscuit which was good, but the chicken and sausage gravy could have used more flavor (i.e. salt). The mimosas and bloody maria’s we’re delicious! In the beginning our waitress was very nice and chill; I really enjoyed her vibe. However, my friend finished her food first but I still had more than halfway to go on mine, that didn’t stop our waitress from coming by and asking how we’d like our check and offering me a “to go” container. There were no customers waiting to be seated and we’d only been there for half an hour. I felt very rushed and that completely changed how I felt about the waitress. I’ve read other reviews where people have said the same about being rushed, and hope that isn’t a policy that the restaurant has in place because it could start having an impact on business. Other than the way things ended I would be willing to give this place one more try.
The food was amazing! However, we drove over an hour after finding this restaurant online for brunch and unfortunately their system had overbooked reservations for 12:00 PM. We arrived and checked in at about 11:45 AM and were not seated until 12:30 PM. Making a reservation is definitely the way to go though because they stopped taking walk ins after they had so many reservations! Overall the service was good and we may would return again once they get the system worked out.
Our food was delicious and our server was very attentive. The whole reservation thing seems to be more of a general suggestion than a sure thing, though. Place was crowded when we arrived at 11:15 and checked in. The hostess said there was one reservation ahead of us and she gestured to tables with checks on them and said it'd be about 11:30 til we were seated (our reservation time). No problem-perfect. But then we watched as two (separate) walk in parties came in at 11:30 and were seated at those tables. We questioned it, hostess was annoyed with us and were finally seated at 11:45. I'd need to understand the reservation policy before entertaining clients or colleagues.
I had booked a reservation for my friend's birthday brunch and was not seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time. After finally being seated, we were quickly prompted to make a decision because they were, quote, "too busy". We had never been there before and were rushed to make our decisions. Despite the very loud atmosphere, the rushed service, feeling like a nuisance to the business, and receiving zero communication from the staff as to why we were seated so late, the only thing that saved the experience was our waitress. She was obviously flustered, but she still maintained a positive attitude and we loved her. Overall, if you are looking for a nice Sunday brunch to celebrate a special occasion, do not go here. Find somewhere that will seat you promptly and have a calm atmosphere.
